IT was another exciting day of sport with the Commonwealth Games continuing to catch the imagination and Bernhard Langer, Jim Furyk and Phil Taylor providing returns in golf and darts.

There have been plenty Games winners posted on the site and I'm sure someone put up Fran Halsall to win a second swimming golf at a huge price while Johnb is close to landing his nap after Scotland's men's pair reached the final of the bowls in dramatic style.

Scotland looked dead certs to beat Malaysia today and strike gold and they are still available at 2-7 with boylesports.

Ace Venturer was denied an outright double on the golf when Jim Furyk blew a three-shot overnight lead to finish second to Tim Clark in the Canadian Open. He tipped Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie – both at 6-1 – for the Senior Open in Wales and they finished first and second.

Langer, who was my only tip, won by an incredible 13 shots as he led from start to finish at Porthcawl.

I also backed Phil Taylor to beat Michael van Gerwen in the BetVictor World Matchplay Final at Blackpool and he did comfortably as he notched an amazing 15th win in the event.

I haven't put up any Games tips until now and my first is Nickel Ashmeade to win the men's 100 metres in the absence of countryman Usain Bolt. Ashmeade looked in cruise control in yesterday's heats while the man seen as his biggest rival, Richard Thompson, scraped through as a fastest loser.

Ashmeade is 9-4 at Coral while Thompson has gone out to 5-1 second favourite at Ladbrokes.

It's a big day in the athletics at Glasgow 2014 today and put up all your sports tips and chat here.

Games tip

Ashmeade to win 100m
(9-4, Coral)

Scotlands Mens Pairs start their final at 12:45pm for anyone wanting to watch
11/10 advised at the start but now available at 2/7 boylesports & I think thats a huge price for the final the way Paul Foster & Alex Marshall are playing & with their experience
Home crowd & you just have to look at the semi against England to see what it means to the players

Tried to put up a tip yesterday but it never appeared. Here goes again.

Blessing Okagbare in the womens 100m cut to 4/7 from 6/5.
Her main rival was Michelle Ahye who has pulled out due to a hamstring injury.

  4. Mattr 10 years ago

You can get 10/3 for an Ashmeade Okagbare 100m double on 365.

  5. ant h 10 years ago

on that doible like a tramp on chips

  6. GAZ B 10 years ago

Scotland 4/9 on skybet and also 100m double above is 4/1

  7. Ricky C 10 years ago

I think Okagbare will win womens 100m for sure but mens 100m I think Keston Bledman is a good price at 9/2

    • AL 10 years ago

Know nothing about athletics, but had a look at the mens 100m after Mr F tipped Ashmeade to win it.

      Ashmeade’s season best is 9.97

Simon Magakwe has the 2nd fastest time this season, 9.98 and his price 200/1 at coral! (1/3 odds for 2nd place)

Does anyone have any info on him, is he carrying or returning from injury?

Can’t understand why he’s 200/1 based on the season PB’s

  8. Ricky C 10 years ago

for that double you get 7.25/1

fraser-holmes at 3/1 to win mens 200 medley

he was amazing in relay last night v Scotland

Australia to win mens and womens hockey when games are finished today will be around evens

  13. David 10 years ago

I think the 100m will be a tight affair between Ashmeade and Thompson.

Ashmeade won easily in the Glasgow diamond league a couple of weeks ago with Thompson coming last of the finishers, however his seasons best is 9.85 against Ashmeads 9.97.

If pushed I would go with a smaller bet on Thompson.

With regards Simon Magakwe – rarely gets to compete against the worlds best and the 9.98 he ran earlier this year is the one and only time he has been under 10 seconds.

    • AL 10 years ago

Cheers for the info on Magakwe, stuck £5 e/w on him earlier, worth a punt at that odds, got a chance of placing if he can get close to his PB

  14. steven H 10 years ago

I agree Ricky that bledman has a chance and Thompson did look unconvincing yesterday but on the day its really anyone’s with no big names doing the 100.

  15. ChTheScot 10 years ago

Re DeAndre, that’s a great shout for McCoy, must admit I totally overlooked that one.
Have to go against you with Dez Bryant though, can’t see past Megatron, they only have one dimension to their game and one way to play….get the ball to Megatron. Haven’t checked the price yet, probably much shorter than Bryant but for a good reason I think.

Love how all bookies had ashmeade as odds on fave pre tournament haha is it cause he’s Jamaican? He’s not even got the quickest time out the field! Mon the Richard Thompson!

    • AL 10 years ago

      Ashmeade now 11/2 with ladbrokes?

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

AL, that’s worrying – I’d advise anyone not to have a bet until we find out why he’s drifted so much. An injury maybe? Or has he been spotted downing a litre of Irn Bru after a couple of rolls and sausage. Sorry, that was me after the golf today.

  20. Northy 10 years ago

Bailey-Cole will win it with ease imo

  21. BeardedGeordie 10 years ago

After watching the race it seems like he was just running to qualify but didn’t judge the competition to well, maybe conserving energy for the final ? I hope anyway haha

    • AL 10 years ago

Never seen the race, turned over just as Heat 2 was about to start.

Heard no mention of any injury or anything in the aftermath of the qualifiers so no idea what the reasoning is for the big drift in price

  22. Sam 10 years ago

Ashmeade strolled in his semi-final, came joint first and crossed the line grinning to himself. As said above, looked like he was running just to qualify and nothing more.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Sam, fair enough. At the end of the day it’s all about the final, keeping your nerve and making no mistakes. I’ll keep an eye on the prices and see what the experts are saying.

  23. BeardedGeordie 10 years ago

Ashmeade just judged it wrong, Cole looked superb tho so should be a awesome race

  24. Jaggy cee 10 years ago

Is everyone backing ashmeade or steering clear

  25. Sam 10 years ago

Indeed it is Mr F, got my fingers crossed after getting on an Okagbare and Ashmeade double this morning.

  26. steven H 10 years ago

Just shows what book makers know about athletics. Ie eff all
Why was ashmeade odds on fave? He didn’t have the quickest time this season. If its because he’s Jamaican then that is pathetic.
Cole was impressive but I reckon with a good crowd behind him gemili could medal.

  27. raaljaca 10 years ago

Ashmeades season best is 9.97 and personal best is 9.90, these times are ahead of anyone else here, that is why he was favourite Steven

  28. raaljaca 10 years ago

Ashmeade is 4/7 to win a medal with Boylesports.

  29. steven H 10 years ago

Eh no. Thompsons SB this year is 9.88 so fairly quicker than ashmeades time this year. Fair enough ashmeade does have a chance to win, he may well win easy! But he defo did not deserve to be odds on at ante post.

  30. Tom 10 years ago

Why is Cole such a heavy favourite(according to bet365)? Is ashmeade worth a bet or a bit too fanciful?

  31. raaljaca 10 years ago

I bow to your superior knowledge Steven, not had a bet in the Games other than a shooting tip from my mate in Airdrie, Diamond Dave :)

  32. Ad 10 years ago

stosur is playing 16 yr old naomi osaka right now. stosur is capable of truly loose tennis at times, and is showing that right now. its a huge ask for the youngster, but she has a big enough serve to keep this close unless stosur really goes up a few gears, and osaka is available at 10/1 in play. worth a couple of quid. on serve in the first set

  33. raaljaca 10 years ago

Thompson??? There is no Thompson in the final!! I was meaning finalists times.

  34. steven H 10 years ago

Aye and I’m talking about ante post. Ie before the very first race of the first round started, do keep up Raal. Simply said don’t get why ashmeade was made pre tournament favorite lol sorry for confusion!
Good run but he’s no bolt ;)

  35. Ad 10 years ago

Osaka now down to 9/4 in play. 1 set all 1-0 up

  36. dave 10 years ago

the reason he was made favourite is because he was Jamaican and came with a bit of a reputation after some decent grand prix runs

one company would have put up the prices and others would then have followed and copied as they haven’t a clue

when they don’t have proper markets on betfair to follow they have to make their best guess

this is what I have been saying all through games there is huge value to be had if you shop around and do some research

    for example

peaty was over 10/1 to win 100m swim then 9/4 after first heat
van der burgh was 3/1 to win 50m (world record holder)
Murdoch was over 10/1 to beat jamieson and was then 3/1 after beating him in semi

this isn’t like horse racing where there is lots of info to go round and all the athletes are also trying which can only help

bookies excel at taking daft punters money this is why guys like greg consistently takes their cash as they know bugger all about Estonian or philipino footie but feel obliged to put up prices

Raal does the same with some of his goal markets as does Damo and numerous others on here

they might know wayne rooney is injured but they don’t know who is lining up for st johnstone under 20’s and so on

you can see how little the bookies know about some sports with the huge differences in price between the companies

this gives us guys a chance to get a decent bet on before they catch up

a prime example of this is in the mens 800

when prices went up at first rudisha was odds on

now nigel amos is odds on with most

the race was purely priced up on reputation

ive no idea who will win race but it will be interesting to see the heats

  37. DeAndre 10 years ago

ChTheScot he’s obviously favourite, but the whole league knows it and the reason he was getting so many yards is because the Lions were behind so often in games that the run game went out the window early and the just started chucking bombs to try and get back into it. This year I think the Cowboys will be in that same situation (unfortunately) where they are behind and playing catch up for a lot of the time….that and Dez is a BEAST!

  38. DeAndre 10 years ago

As far as McCoy for rushing champ I think he’s an absolute steal!

  39. Ad 10 years ago

Osaka wins it 4-6, 7-6, 7-5! not bad for a 16 yr old ranked outside the top 400 in the world.

  40. Ad 10 years ago

    Tomorrow’s tennis:

    Sela d Benneteau @ 11/8.

Benneteau hasn’t played since losing in straight sets to Giles Muller in the first round at Wimbledon. Sela on the other hand has played 10 matches, winning 7, including a fantastic run to the final in Atlanta, beating Young, Querrey, Pospisil and Becker before falling to my tip Isner in the final. His confidence and hard court form should see him notch his first win against Benneteau. He leads the head to head 4-0, but is 32 now and past his best, and the most recent of those wins came in 2010.

Andujar to beat Melzer @ 4/6 (NAP)

Similar to the matchup above, Melzer hasnt played since Wimbledon, whereas Andujar has played 10 matches on clay and won 8, including taking the title in Gstaad last week, beating, Simon, Rola, Granollers, Verdaso and Monaco on the way. That’s a very impressive list of victims, and it’s hard to see Melzer, who isn’t a specialist on the surface, beating him in his first match back on clay.

    a new sport today netball

bet on the handicaps with bet 365

    England -29.5
    Malawi – 14.5

    England are playing Trinidad
    logic

    England beat wales by 40
    wales beat Trinidad by 20

    for Malawi

new Zealand bat Malawi by 3
new Zealand beat Scotland by 57

Malawi surprisingly ranked 5th in world

    obviously only small stakes

in the other games I would expect new Zealand could overcome 67 points against st lucia but given game only lasts 60 mins and they may get arsed trying after awhile

they beat us by 57 and Ireland by 50 so it is possible

    best watched I think

  44. Ernie 10 years ago

What tournament are they in Ad

  45. Ad 10 years ago

Ernie, the Andujar game is in the Kitzbuhel Cup (Austria). Home advantage is the only thing Melzer has going for him here.

Unfortunately the Benneteau game has been cancelled. Sela is now playing Sam Groth, and i will be on sela to win @ 8/15, though I preferred the odds and sharpness edge he had against Benneteau.

  46. steven H 10 years ago

Rudisha, child. Pearson and Sharman are my quad and lucky 15 for the day

  47. steven H 10 years ago

Cannot believe that Spencer for 400h women is 1/5 and child is 5/1. Child is defo worth a punt with the home Crowd behind her.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

      steven H, pity there’s no each-way betting.

  48. steven H 10 years ago

Lucky 15 and quad for athletics

    William Sharman 110m hurdle
    Sally Pearson 100. Hurdle
    Eilidh child 400m hurdle
    David rudisha 800.

Once again clueless book makers having Spencer of Jamaica at 1/5?!? And child at 5/1 but after that she’ll go down easy! Get on it quick

  49. Ad 10 years ago

As well as backing v williams as an outsider to take the bank of west classic title at 25/1, im also on petkovic @ 24/1. She is in great form having taken the title in Austria last week and a lot of the big players in the top half haven’t played since Wimbledon.

From the bottom half, which is the weak half of the draw, Kerber has a great chance of making the final and may be worth backing @ 10/1.

  50. steven H 10 years ago

Yeh defo. Sorry for all messages. They said moderation preview whatever that means so wasn’t sure if they sent.

  51. dave 10 years ago

looks like New Zealand just overcame the 66.5 handicap winning by 67

pretty tight but 1 point or 100 who cares if you had it
