CHRIS FROOME is leaving his title rivals an uphill task as the Tour de France heads for the mountains.
The Team Sky rider has a 12-second lead over nearest challenger Tejay van Garderen following yesterday's team time trial and big guns Alberto Contador, Nairo Quintana and defending champion Vincenzo Nibali are all trailing in his wake.
Froome's price for the title has been trimmed again – 4-6 at Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and BetVictor is the best available – as the Tour prepares for the first mountain stage on Tuesday following a rest day.
Quintana is next in the betting at 5-2 with 888sport and Contador is generally available at 10s with van Gerderen 19-1 at 10bet.
After the drama of the Wimbledon and Scottish Open finales on Sunday it's a pretty quiet day of sport today with the likes of Swindon v Poole in speedway's Elite League plus WTA action from Romania and Sweden and rugby league from Down Under.

Cycling: Tour de France 2015 stage 9
First mountain stage. It’s going up and down with some short climbs until the last 14km climb with finish on top which will shake up the general classification. I can’t see a break-away make it to the end and I think the main GC riders will fight it out for the stage win.
