SO now we know Sunday's World Cup Final line-up – and it should be a cracker between Germany and Argentina
Germany are the 4-5 favourites at BetVictor and McBookie and it's difficult to back against them after the way they battered Brazil 7-1 in the semi-final.
No two games are the same of course but Joachim Low's side have looked the best for most of the tournament and I tipped them as likely winners after the quarter-final matches.
Argentina, now a best 23-20 at bet365, were my antepost tip so I can't really lose having taken the Germans as my back-up bet. I'll post my World Cup Final betting preview on Saturday but it's fair to say I'll be backing the Germans to win in 90 minutes.
Thursday's all about the Europa League and I'll attempt to repeat last week's Super Single and Top Treble success on the first-leg ties.
For the treble I'm starting with Aberdeen who take a 5-0 lead to Latvians Daugava Riga. I'm not always keen on backing sides who don't need to win but Dons boss Derek McInnes says he'll put out a strong side and go for more goals.
Gothenburg let me down on the handicaps when they were surprisingly held 0-0 at home to Luxembourg Fola Esch. The Swedes recovered from that shock to hammer Helsingborgs 6-2 in the league at the weekend and having found their shooting boots should come through this tie.
Complete the treble with Shakhter Karagandy who pushed Celtic all the way in Champions League qualification last season. They beat Armenians Shirak 2-1 last week and are strong at their Kazakhstan home so should add to the lead.
The treble isn't a big payer but can be added to with Sligo to beat Banga and Honka against Sillamae Kalev to take it up to just under 4-1 at Stan James.

I fancy Crusaders to beat ekranas, they won 3-1 at home last week and are 5/2 to win this week playing away. I understand that ekranas have the home advantage however with the goals scored last week I have a small stake on them.

From about the group stage I said Argentina had the look of a World Cup winner. They scraped through games early on but these teams are meant to get better. They have arguably got worse and still find themselves in the final.
It will ruin this wonderful tournament if they win this now. I have a horrible feeling they will.
However, being positive. Argies had to contend with an extra half an hour of play which should lead to more tired legs for the Germans to capitalise on after their holiday of a semi-final.
I just hope Germany can pull out another cracking performance and the final results in a just win for the Germans. I think even the folks who have backed Argentina pre tournament would accept that actually Germany are more just winners.

Let’s be honest Holland stopped Messi tonight and still went out. I have the feeling if Germany stop Messi they’ll win comfortably in 90mins. Romero for me is a weak link. On three or four occasions this evening he could have come out and caught the ball, relieving the pressure on his back four. Instead he punched it to a Dutch bloke or out for a Dutch throw.
Craigyboy, i’m due to win 4 figures on an Argentina win but i’ll be putting every penny due on Germany.
The gulf in class between the teams is phenomenal and the 7/5 available on Germany to win in 90 mins will be getting hit hard too.
I know it’s a final blah blah blah and there’s no chance of Germany firing in another 7 ( i see a win by 2 goals) i just can’t see any way Argentina’s midfield will get anywhere near the Germans which means no foothold in the match at all.
Argentina barely had 1 chance in open play against a decent Dutch team, against a superb German side that extrapolates to 1 goal max for them, i’m guessing 3-1 or 2-0 Germany.
Jman, probably be tight – that’s the way Argentina like it – but Germany will play better than Holland. Hopefully the Germans get an early goal and it opens up. Otherwise we could be looking at 1-0 Germany.

Cheers Mr f. For anyone interested, Germany Holland double pays 5.75/1. That looks too good to pass up. Argentina may have made it this far but they have been 99% boring and 1% messi. I don’t think they’ll get away with that against a well organised German team who have strength in all areas. Neuer is a machine and their attacking midfield will surely rip the argies apart. The other match imo could be a closer affair with Brazil trying to restore some pride and a day’s less rest for holland but I can’t pass up on 2/1 for the holland win. A safer bet might be to qualify in case they try boring Brazil into submission but as it’s my last main bet of the competition I’m going for the straight up double. Good luck all!

Just checked the odds for the final. Like the look of Germany to win 2-0. Bookies go 8/1 and 9/1 but Ladbrokes have a stand out price of 12/1. I’m on it now before the price drops.

Astana love to score especially at home but don’t concede too many, when they do it’s usually in the first half though. They’ve only failed to score once at home this season. Pyunik seem to leak goals but are capable of scoring them too. Astana won the reverse fixture 4-1 so small stakes may be advised in case they don’t attack as much in this game.

I can see an extremely boring final being played out. I don’t know how many of you watched the final in 1990 which was won by Germany with a penalty from Brehme circa 87th minute. Having reflected upon the game last night, neither team did enough in 90 minutes to win. There was no clear cut opportunity. The best chance of the night fell for Robben and in my book Lavezzi had the best chance for Argentina when he was not able to bring the ball down.
Another thing wat got me alex was the lack of yellow cards and blatant free kicks. Im all up for contact sport and over refing can do your nut but that was way too lenient for me and it actually made less chances. Good example is when robben was body checked clearly and got nothing. Should have been a good chance for sneider to shoot or cross. All in all though hollands final ball and lack of attacking was dreadful

Ramey-the refereeing through out the tournament has been poor, FIFA seem to be more concerned with keeping players on the pitch and have been happy to let players kick lumps out of each other. Both teams cancelled each other out. Messi hardly had a kick all game and you could see him in his own half like Rooney trying to pick up the ball. I think the game needed an early Argentina goal so that it could open up.

Matt, majority of it is mate as it runs right along the coastline but only hilly bit is around city centre but very few steep hills that would cause you any problems. If you do enter it mate and need an overnight stay just let me know as ‘raal towers’ is always available and only ten minute from city centre.

Hi Raaljaca, Just after some advise I bet £20 on argentina outright pre tournament. It seems the best idea is to bet on germany now, but how much would you bet?
Jp, if you are on at 9/2 you stand to win £110 inc stake so a bet on Germany outright at 8/11 is the best cover bet. You have £90 to play with, Argentina winnings, which you could stick £50 on Germany and be guaranteed a profit of £40 or £16.36 etc. Best to hold off until Sunday as Germany’s odds may become more attractive. Do not right Argentina off though as Germany had 1 fluke result and if you see how hard a game Algeria gave them then Argentina are definitely still in with a great shout.

Another managerial casualty in Ireland as Glaswegian, Stuart Taylor, leaves Limerick. This comes after Danny Galbraith returned to Scotland last week so it looks like it’s been on the cards.
That’s the 3rd sacking/departure in a few weeks after Sligo and Drogheda. They already followed Collins at Derry and Cooke at Athlone.
That means 50% of clubs in Ireland’s top divison have changed their manager already this season. If I recall correctly it only happened twice last season. Tommy Dunne at Cork and Cooke again at Drogheda but they were both late on.
It’s a strange situation but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if financial imperatives had a part to play in some of it. Might be worth keeping an eye out for any shedding of talent in the next few weeks.
p.s I put up my tips this morning about 5am and it was moderated for putting Gothenburgs three letter pre-fix in it. I am guessing a very famous clothing brand would fall foul of the same problem :D

Checked the bets I placed and it says placed 21:00:02. I placed it just before kick off and it must have taken till 2 seconds past 9 for the bet to go through. Thought i would ask here before going to live chat. Anyone think I have a case to fight with them?

Cut a long story short I’m on over 5.5 goals for the Orninn Icelandic game its currently 3-1. If theres no goal before over 4.5 goals come into play as evens then I will be doubling my stake on that. Hopefully that drops early then I can cash in my over 5.5. More of a trial to see how it goes. Potentially if theres no more goals then I lose double my standard stake.

I fancy Brazil to win. They have something to prove to their nation and restore some pride. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him drop Fred which will benefit the team.
Holland have left their base camp and travelling to the game and then going straight home. The sounds coming out of their camp suggest they don’t want to play.

Mr F and Mattr, cheers for getting back to me earlier. Got onto bet365 and they said my bets were placed after the match had started, and as a result were not automatically refunded. And refunded them with no more questions. Fair play to them on that one, could have told me i was getting nothing.

I know we’re not expecting another 7-1 Germany win but Germany over 1.5 goals at 7/4 is a very good price on the back of that result. Over 2.5 is a bit more extreme at 6/1. Some very intriguing prices right there.

I think that was to be expected Mr F. Arguably Brazil’s downfall against Germany I felt was as soon as they went 1-0 behind they tried to hit back immediately. Before they knew it and grasped what day it was they were 5-0 down. I don’t think Argentina will be naïve enough to open the game up.

Luzerne v St Johnstone (Thur KO 6.30pm)
I’m off to Switzerland next week to see the Perth men’s Euopa league qualifier! After last seasons heroics against Rosénborg we’ve been given another tough assignment at Swiss Side Luzerne! Nobody gave us a chance in Norway ( including me ) but this for me is much tougher! Lucerne finished 4th, behind the big guns of Basle, grasshoppers and Young boys but conditions in contrast to Norway where it was Grey 13 degrees and pouring of rain, will be approaching 30’s and will be very hot! We played Eskishispor the year prior to that in Turkey with simalir conditions and were soundly beaten 2-0! I don’t see us leaving Switzerland with anthing and feel Luzerne based on the prices I’ve seen son far are a good bet to beat us!
By the time we play we will have played just 2 friendlies,Luzerne on the other hand will have played 5 ( 4 of which they have already played and won – all at home). We’ll have a full strength team (bar Dunne who has gone to Portsmouth) but we’ll find it tough going against a a decent Luzerne side and the Swiss heat
The only price I’ve seen available is 5/8 with bet bright so you could assume 4/7 11/20 elsewhere! Will post again once markets are available!
