THEY weren't my first-choice Super Single but Scunthorpe treated us to a real roller-coaster of a day as they threw away a 3-0 goal after their game seemed to have been abandoned.
Dumbarton were of course my original Super Single choice before their match with Livingston was postponed but I was happy changing to Scunny for most of the 90 minutes.
I've been unlucky with a few Super Singles in the past week but that's probably been the toughest to take. Anyone disappointed with the bet going down – just think how the Scunthorpe boss and fans at the game feel?
A couple of trolls have stated I had a bad day but luckily for me my match was off which allowed me to follow today's action live.
On the site I tipped Man City at 6-4 to win when they trailed 2-0 to Watford early on and again at half-time when they were 21-10. It was one of my biggest ever bets as it looked to good to be true and no one who took part in the little debate we had between 3.30 and 4.15 disagreed.
And I also had a 17-2 both teams to score fourfold up but to be honest I'd have swapped the lot for Scunthorpe holding out.
Anyone backing the Super Single to £10 unit stakes this year would be £86.50 down. Using the points system you'd be £199 down as Scunthorpe were a three-pointer. I've decided to scrap the points system – as advised by a few of the contributors – and hopefully I'll eat into the January losses in the next week before beginning afresh next month.
Overall results were quite bizarre on Saturday so hopefully they'll be better on Sunday and I'm starting the Top Treble with Lyon at home to Evian.
Lyon have won five in a row and after a poor start the only side that's beaten them in 17 outings is PSG. Alexandre Lacazette and Bafetimbi Gomis have formed a decent partnership and they should beat an Evian outfit who have lost five of their last six matches.
Next I'm on Ajax at Go Ahead Eagles and they look a Brillo bet. Ajax have nine in a row in all competitions and have beaten Go Ahead in the last eight meetings between the sides.
In those eight games Ajax have hit 31 goals and won 6-0 there last season as well as 6-0 in Amsterdam this season. In fact their last three wins against them have been 6-0, 6-0 and 4-0.
Form and stats suggest an Ajax win but with the luck I've been having it will probably be a draw. The only negative is Go Ahead have lost just once at home this season but they hate playing Ajax as much as I hate scouring the bath.
Several sides were on my shortlist to complete the treble. Celtic and Fiorentina are a bit short while Roma are a little bit under-priced at Verona and are the 11.30 game so I wouldn't like the treble to go down so early.
Atletico Madrid should be fine at Rayo Vallecano but again are a bit short so I've plumped for Sampdoria who are 4-5 with Ladbrokes at home to Bologna. Sampdoria have picked up under Sinisa Mihajlovic and have picked up seven points from their last three homes matches.
Last time out they lost 4-2 at Juventus but showed enough to suggest they are a decent punt at home to a lowly Bologna outfit who have won once in six games and lost on their last four visits to Sampdoria.
Bologna will be without banned Panagoist Kone and what I've read that's a huge blow but maybe Oor Man in Napoli can let us know if that's the case and what he thinks about a home win here.
As for the Super Single this is an idea inspired by tur last night. I'd picked out a rough shortlist when he commented about how punters who don't like it should pick their own.
So I decided to give people a chance to pick Sunday's Super Single from my shortlist. Votes were to be open until 12.30pm but I've closed it with 93 per cent going for Celtic -1 at Hibs in a match that kicks off at 12.45pm.
The other choices were Riviere (Monaco) to score (11-8, Paddy Power), Messi to score first (7-4, Ladbrokes), St Etienne (2-1, Ladbrokes) at Bordeaux and Osasuna draw no bet (11-8, bet365) v Athletic Bilbao.

I have a really good feeling about Van Dijk scoring for Celtic tomorrow and I hope I’m right as he is a stand out price of 8/1 with Betfred. With two key defenders out for hibs I think Celtic will dominate at set pieces and will win this game comfortably. I think 3-0 or 4-0 to Celtic. Celtic are due a big win and I’m confident it will happen at Easter Road tomorrow. It’s difficult to see past Kris Conmons to score first and the previous two times Commons scored first it was within 5 mins so consider him to score first in 1-20 mins also. As I think Celtic will score a few I’m also backing my big mate Charlie Mulgrew to net anytime.

Chris, I honestly think Celtic can hit 4 or 5 tomorrow. Hibs have picked up under Butcher but they honestly couldn’t have been any worse than under Fenlon. PSV sit a couple of places below Excelsior in the league but in their past 4 away games they have managed to score 2 goals. Excelsior are strong at home and this is why the odds are pretty big at 2/1, however they did concede 2 in their last home game and 2 of PSV’s previous away games where they scored 2 goals were against VVV Venlo and Emmen, who both have similar home records to Excelsior. If you don’t fancy the bet, BTTS would probably make a good addition to any accumulators.
Sampdoria vs Bologna (14:00) Serie A
Sampadoria Over 1.5 team goals – Evens @ Bet365
Sampdoria have scored 2 or more goals 4 out of the last 7 times they have played at home in the league and come into the game off the back of scoring 2 away to Juventus and 3 at home to Udinese. Bologna are pretty poor away from home and have conceded at least 2 on the road in 6 of their 9 away games this season. Pretty confident in Sampdoria over 1.5 team goals and over 2.5 team goals may even be worth a look at 10/3.
So, two tips from me tomorrow after an evens winner on Friday and a 12/5 winner today. Hoping it isn’t beginners luck and I can have another good day tommorrow :D

I’m still reeling from Scunthorpe yesterday. When your luck isn’t in, as it isn’t for Mr F at the moment, it really isn’t in. It’s been a tough month, it is plain to see, but the regulars back you all the way Mr F and you know it. This site is the best on the web, without question, for your tips, for Greg’s tips, for Raaljaca’s tips and for everyone else’s. I think of it as a privilege to comment on here with my thoughts and that some people on here follow me is really a fantastic feeling. So the moral here is, just because Mr F has not landed for a little while, it is a long term project and the SS is something that should be judged over time. ANYWAY, from me yesterday was 2/4 and a 1.25pt profit. Very happy with that on a tough card. Today is a new day and hopefully another good one!

Sampdoria are strong at home and have scored at least twice in 4 of their last 7 home matches. Bologna have struggled away recently have conceded 8 in their last 4 away matches including 2 or more on 3 occasions. In the last four meetings at Sampdoria, they have managed to score 10 goals so I’m backing the home side to hit at least two here and the odds are in our favour and over 1.5 Sampdoria goals pays EVENS.
LEVADIAKOS V ARIS 1:00pm (Greek Super League)
A couple of week’s back, I tipped Kalloni to score twice against Aris and they came up trumps. This week I’m going for Levadiakos to do the same. Aris have conceded at least two in each of their last 5 away matches and barring a 0-4 home loss to Panathanikos, Levadiakos have scored at least two on 4 of their last 5 home matches. I’m going to back the stats to continue and Levadiakos over 1.5 team goals pays 5/4.
SPORTING GIJON V RECREATIVO HUELVA 11:00am (Spain Segunda Division)
Early start in this one, but it’s one I just can’t resist. All 5 of Gijon’s last 5 home matches have seen over 3.5 goals, with 3 of them seeing at least 5. Huelva’s last 2 have only seen 2 in each, but the 3 previous to that all went all over 3.5. The important thing here is, the last 6 Gijon home matches have seen BTTS and 6 of the last 7 Huelva away matches have also seen BTTS, this shows that both teams are more than capable or scoring and conceding. My tip here is for over 3.5 goals and that pays a really nice 9/4 and I think it’s got a good chance.

I found today a surprisingly hard card. My criteria for selection is so specific now that I discard games which maybe a month or two ago I’d have gone for, but right now it’s working so long may it continue! Even with the bad run of super singles ( I have bet on every one) I started the month with €300 and I have €329 today. The super singles have cost me €255 in loses but taking other bets from others on this site have kept me in a small profit so next month might be better it might be worse but I’ll stick at it and hopefully I’ll be ahead in December :-)

My vote for the SS is Celtic -1.
They won 4-0 and 3-0 in the last two games in the League. They’ve obviously found the scoring boots again after a couple of low-scoring games.
Hibs do make it tough sometimes (they drew 1-1 earlier in the season) but I think Celtic will be too much for them tomorrow. Especially after Hibs shipping 3 goals in the first half against St Mirren last weekend.
Just a side-note on the SS. You said if this idea fails you’ll abandon the SS until February 1st. Maybe you should just let this idea run until then and on February 1st decide whether you want to scrap this idea and continue on as normal or maybe stick with this if it works out. Interesting idea with the shortlist Paul – as you say, if we all get it wrong then the trolls can blame a lot of people rather than just aim it at you. As for the run of bad luck recently it’s just that – bad luck. The stats and reasoning for the super single decisions taken have been solid and your points system has given punters a bit more visibility as to how confident you feel in the selection compared to selections on previous or future days.
As for securing this community so we can get rid of the trolls – I hope you’re able to do this soon – mainly for your sanity as well as the good of the site and community as a whole. I’m amazed you stick with it to be fair – but I’m glad you do.
Anyway – regards today’s matches I’m a little wary of Celtic-1 as Celtic only beat them 1-0 at home back in December. Prior to that it was a 1-1 draw away from home in October. Marc – I think the point Mr F is trying to make is that the points system is something new for this year and he’s been trialling it on the SS. If it doesn’t work and if it isn’t popular, there’s no point in continuing for the sake of it!
Marc, re the points system, it’s been scrapped because of two many moans. I’ve put up Super Singles for more than 15 years and the first time I trial points all I got was complaints. Doesn’t stop anyone who wants to do points in doing so but they’ll have to use their own judgment.
The result of a football match is in no way related to the fact that you may or may not have had a bet on it. It is not “bad luck” if you choose the wrong outcome on a Win – Draw – Win, regardless of the circumstances, it is simply the wrong choice. Will be a real concern for butcher in the way in which his Hibs side shipped three goals against an average St Mirren side and with a visit from the champions today they’ll need to sort that out! Danny T, no they wouldn’t. Bookies at the end of the day are businesses trying to make a profit – that’s really all they care about. It’s the harsh reality and as I said earlier anyone who does mainly special markets, that is no win-draw-win, will have their account monitored. I know a guy who with his first bet after opening a new account won just over £200. The bookie shut down him right away as they suspected he was a shrewdie. Luckily there are enough firms out there who will take your bet.
I did something similar Mr. F with Ladbrokes. Opened an account and won £315 profit straight away and also had the £50 free bet too.

Anyway, Fiorentina worry me a little. Valero looks to be out and ilicic is also doubftul( he scored midweek but has been less than impressive anyway)
If Valero is missing, its a loss because he is the main assist man in that midfield. Im not sure if Anderson ex Man U can just step in and fill that one. I said midweek Tomovic is out in defence and he still is out, so another thing for Montella. Fiorentina surely the unluckiest team in italy at this moment with injury.
I expect a 3-4-3 possibly from Fiorentina to hide the injury probs. Matri, Joaquin and Caudrado may take that front three line.
Genoa have Gilardino and he has a chance to score and they kept Inter at bay last week to win 1-0( not so tricky with Inter form)
It could be another tight match so watch out if you have a bet on it.

Also true about Athleticos last 6 games going under 2.5, however tonight they are against the joint worst defence in la liga who have conceded 47 goals and sit 2nd bottom! Even though they are away, I think given a strong Athletico line up there could be goals from Madrid!

Falcao ruptured his knee ligaments in midweek, so it will be interesting to see if Ranieri changes formation or sticks to 4-4-2. I have seen Riviere mentioned on the site and I can see why, he will have to be Monaco main man now, but is going through a goal drought at present.
However if they don’t change their formation then Valere Germain may come in. He has only made a few appearances this season mainly from the bench. He scored 14 goals in 2012-20-13 season to get them promoted. He has seen his chances limited this season but I will take a chance on him at the odds. Several bookmakers still have Falcao priced up so you have to go down the list to find him, and he is 2/1 to score Betvictor.
In Italy it is Fiorentina against Genoa. The home side have dominated this fixture recently, Fiorentina have lost none of the last eight league meetings between the two sides. Fiorentina have only lost 4 of their last 32 home games, and I fancy another win here.

Disappointed the matic booking single didn’t come in, stoke were absolutely terrible so he didn’t have to make any risky tackles.
Blair R, Matri was rubbish at AC, totally useless, but his first start at Fiorentina gave him two goals. He will work better simply because Fiorentina have a better midfield than AC. He will find quality assists to score.
My only small reservation is if Valero is out as he an important cog in the wheel of assists for the front men. But saying that, Fiorentina have a quality midfield and may use 4 or 5 in midfield.
The two/ three front men for Fiorentina are Matri Joaquin and Caudrado likely.
Matri is the most natural old fashioned striker in the team and i have him and Gilardino fot Genoa

Last night’s Brazilian experiment of backing teams we know with quantifiable records from the top two national leagues, Serie A and Serie B, against teams we’ve never heard of in the current round of regional league competitions, was close to bringing in a nice treble paying around 7. Two came in at 10/11 and 17/20 – this one actually kicked off at 7/5 – and only the third, at the shortest odds of 4/5 saw the usually reliable Atletico PR unable to stick in a winner. I like it all loaded on one bet, so, a loser, nevertheless!
So, here’s one to try for tonight…
Campeonato Paulista
Atletico Sorocoba v Palmeiras KO 7pm
Atletico Sorocoba play in a 12,500 capacity stadium; the last time they were near Brazilian national leagues was Serie C in 2006; and they’re owned by the moonies.

I used to shy away from doing accumulators where the kick offs were different times. This was because I didn’t want my bet to fall at the first fence, so to speak, and spoil the rest of the day.However by staggering matches you get more time to cover your bets. Vital when large returns are involved.
I haven’t had the misfortune to have this happen to me but without the advice you lot constantly give I could have gone on cursing that one team that seems to always lets me down. It’s better to get a smaller profit than none at all.

Evening guys, disappointed when I saw Fiorentina had scored 3 and Matri hadn’t scored but still turned out good with Costa scoring and a new name I think we should keep an eye on is Monaco striker Valere Germain, he was 2/1 today when I put him up and with Falcao out unless they make a move in the window, he may become a key player for them.

Actually i had Sampdoria on too, cashed out on 80min as i expected them to be 2-0 up. And I know Bologna. 1-0 wasnt enough for me to rely on. I lost money last week because Bologna scored in the 90 minute.

The cheif, honestly mate I can’t put my finger on it! At home we are the second strongest home team in the league, away though it just hasn’t been happening! We’ve won just twice ( Ross county and Partick who are two struggling teams )
We play the same formation but we tend to get caught out a lot away, we need to probably change our tactics away and try and become harder to beat, a bit less adventurous! The manager knows this – what worries me about tomorrow is Dundee Utd haven’t won, in 6 matches, they have some good players are strong at home + we have league cup semi final with Aberdeen in sat, a few of the players might have their eye on that, they shouldn’t but you never know! We are missing out first choice keeper which is a big blow! Banks is still a capable replacement but he did lose 4 goals here at the same ground in sept, his 1st of 2 appearence so far this season ( second one was last week)

Given their current run of form I reckon dundee utd are poor value tomorrow night vs a saints team in reasonable nick. St johnstone might have one eye on their semi final vs aberdeen but I reckon they’ll still be good enough to at least score a goal here. With that in mind I reckon over 2.5 goals here at 9/10 is the bet in this game as its quite conceivable utd could also just spring back into action and score a few. I wouldn’t even rule out a Desmond!
Mr F i fancy Siena, they are already two games in having played catania and fiorentina. Did well. Definately. They were docked 7 points this season and last two games ended a bit flat before the break. But proved themselves at fiorentina. They should be up at the top.
