THERE is a lovely card at York today which is a nice bonus for a Sunday and that is where my focus has been.
I have four confident selections today staring with TWIN APPEAL (1.50pm, York). He has recently switched from David Barron to Karen Tutty’s yard and although a decent 5th of 14 last time he has been dropped another 2lb in the weights by the handicapper.
That puts him on his lowest mark for 4 years and this consistent sort will go very close today with Karen’s daughter Gemma on board in a race the family will be desperate to win.
In the second race of the day GIVE IT SOME TEDDY (2.20pm, York) is in fine form and should be shorter than he currently is to win this. He looks a good each way bet to nothing in this one.
The third selection is the brilliantly-named FASTMAN who won nicely first time out and hasn’t been seen since. The 3rd-placed horse that day was Victory Command who is now rated 102 having won 4 times. Assuming all is well with Fastman I would expect him to win this race and he should be shorter in the betting.
The fourth and final selection for me is CAPTAIN JAMESON in the lucky last (5.00pm, York). Some of his competitors look to be racing off close to their career high handicap marks and are being asked to improve again quite a bit to win the race.
Captain Jameson is consistent and when you take account of the excellent Jason Watson’s 3lb claim the horse is on a mark of 81 today of which he has won very well before. The slightly softer ground is also a bonus and he should run really well.
