BEEN a bit busy the last few days so struggled to do write-ups. We managed seven days serving the homeless and catered for about 300 people a day.
We would have liked to have done it for longer but when the pot is empty we can’t. Just have to get some winners now to build the fund up but it has been a really enjoyable few days. December is 86.49pts down.
Condolences to connections all of the horses lost recently. At the end of the day it’s all about the horses and we feel it when we lose one.
Leopardstown 1.55
Dinaria Des Obeaux is a double stake selection at massive odds. The 25-1 on offer is too big and probably should be single figures. This is the horse the smart money is on and connections thinks she should be nailed on for a place, she is two from three since going chasing and was fourth to Death Duty last time. This step up in distance looks ideal and with her receiving weight it sets her up for a big run.
Limerick 2.10
Minella Fair looked pretty good on his hurdles debut and should be more than capable of this step up in class. The heavy ground will again be a positive, on his hurdles debut he jumped really well and finished his race well. The extra two furlongs should also suit.
Southwell 3.30
Dream Magic won last time and in pretty impressive style by eight lengths. At first glance people might think he doesn’t handle the fibresand after coming tailed off last on his only course run. That run though was over a distance that didn’t suit and this distance here is more up his street.
Leopardstown 3.35
Daly Tiger is a horse I have a lot of time for, I have been spending some time in Ireland with work and this horse is one that has really caught my eye. He was beaten by Real Steel last time and although coming down recently Real Steel has franked the form. Connections were really upset they didn’t beat Real Steel that day but he was well clear of the rest. It is a bit surprising he isn’t favourite here but should see plenty of money for him,

Hi johnb I remember you saying this is your 1st losing year in a 19 year run I do every single one of your tips the tide will turn some time. But I was thinking why dont you go for broke and put up a lucky 31 or something. I know it’s not they way you do things but you never know and it would be good to see you keep your run going. Ps in no way criticising you will be on yours again tomorrow as always
Don’t think anyone should chase losses and when you’re finding it difficult to land one winner it wouldn’t be wise to put up a lucky 31.
I have had a few the last couple of days but that’s just because the racing looks so good, some may think going double stake on a 25/1 horse is going for broke but it is a strong fancy and it’s good to see the money come, although it would be good to finish in front I can’t just advise to do that,
Even if I was to turn it round in the last few days it wouldn’t be anything to be proud of for me as I know it’s still been a very bad year
Anybody got any antepost selections at this early stage looking ahead to cheltenham etc
Faugheen looks good at 2/1 for the Champion Hurdle and in a difficult Gold Cup I think Coney Island at 12/1 has looked by far the best contender in the run up so far but also saying that, I still think Thistlecrack is too big a price at 16/1 on good ground
An interesting runner at Doncaster 2:05 is HIGH JINX making his hurdling debut at 9yo, I don’t think connections would be risking him if he hadn’t been showing something at home
High Jinx is a Group 1 winner on the flat with previous good runs behind horses like Brown Panther, Flying Officer, Times Up, he ran in a Group 2 in August when 5th behind Montaly 1st, Dartmouth 2nd, St Michel 3rd, Sheikhzayedroad 4th,
In May he was only half a length behind Dartmouth in the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup and only a head behind Simple Verse
Rated 107 on the flat if he takes to hurdles straight away then he would be a penalty kick here and 11/2 could look big
I haven’t been able to find out how he has been schooling but he is interesting
