Moore pleased with Able Friend reports as the Hong Kong star settles in Newmarket

Able Friend is settling in to his new environment at trainer Michael Bell’s Fitzroy House Stables in Newmarket where he will prepare for the G1 Queen Anne Stakes (1600m) at Royal Ascot next Tuesday (16 June).

Trainer John Moore, who will join his stable star on Friday, 12 June, is pleased with the reports he is receiving from his team on the ground in England, which includes his son, George Moore, Jockey Club vet Paul Robinson and work rider Thomas Yeung.

“Able Friend travelled unbelievably well; he ate and drank the whole way on the plane,” said Moore. “We weighed him and he only lost 10lb, so for a horse that is 1280lb, that’s nothing.

“When he got to England, Rossdales’ vet, Mike Shepherd, and our vet, Paul Robinson, were very happy with what they were seeing. The minute they put him into his stall he just went and drank a lot of water.”

Moore intends to work Able Friend on Polytrack in the build-up to the mile showpiece next week.

“He’ll be out on the Polytrack close to Michael’s yard,” he said. “It’s a flat gallop and that’s what we want. We’ll keep it as flat as we can. He’ll be out this morning on that Polytrack for a trot and we’ll get a chiropractor in to just go over him because he’s a monster of a horse.”

Able Friend took in the wide open spaces of Newmarket Heath as, appearing fresh and well, he headed out across the Hamilton Road to exercise close to the Rowley Mile racecourse this morning (Monday 8 June). The big chestnut completed four laps of the trotting ring under Yeung and then proceeded to complete two laps of the round gallop, once clockwise and once counter clockwise. The Shamardal five-year-old, who was led in his work by the Bell-trained My Strategy under Lewis Steward, then returned to the stables for a pick of grass.

Meanwhile, Moore also revealed that Able Friend, although taking the two-flight 20-plus hour journey in his stride, was not too enamoured with what he saw during a brief stop-over in Dubai.

“When he was in Dubai he took one look outside the pallet  – where the cargo plane was he could see the desert – and the vet, Paul Robinson, said he took one look outside, saw the sand, must have thought to himself there’s no grass there, and put his head straight back in again!” said the handler.

I know alot of people will fancy Solow for the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot and i admit he is a bit special but with ABLE FRIEND we are talking about the best miler in the world

Right guys the lads on the footie thread seem to have a great corner system in place would advise to have a look and track it.
My point is I think the guys on here could put up a few ideas of our own to paper trade I have one which is a bit of a high risk involving one fav a day if beat on to the next to a max of 5 bets will gladly put up the tip at £1 £2 £4 £8 £16 max and final bet if it goes to 5 days.
If anyone has a better idea lets here and trail it.
PS All bets will be evens OR OVER

    Hey johnb

Cracking pick on golden horn, congrats, I imagine you now like him for his next start whcich seems like it will be the eclipse? Interested on your opinion of whether he can handle the older horses?

Also whats your opinion on the diamond jubilee, Im aus and I dont get too follow the uk races as much as ours but I find it interesting brazen beau is the market favourite. Although he is a horse I’ve rated for a while that has always had some ability, he is a bit inconsistent at times and can dissapoint. He would not even be favourite for a race of similar quality back home imo. He has never proved himself on a heavy or slow (wet conditions) and the races just seem to be run so differently to ours, although he does seem to like a straight course. Whats your opinion on mustajeeb hes a horse that has always seemed to have been well respected

  48. double carpet 4 years ago

ok mate im on @ 11/10

  49. Alanm 4 years ago

If I can’t pick a fav to win over 5 days I would need to maybe need to give it it up but lets give it a go for the rest of the month and as I said anyone with any other ideas or system let’s be having your say just don’t sit on the fence.

Like your idea AlanM – and thanks Postman followed your revised NAP!!

  64. WasClueless 4 years ago

I know very little about horse racing – so only betting small stakes. Each day I pick a selection of the tips and back to win with even stakes … make a profit most days – so for example today I am on:
3.45 Kiwi Bay – Lost (came second to a 33-1 shot!)
    4.00 Royal Duchess – WON
    4.30 Sewn Up
    5.00 Strong Steps
    6.05 El Massivo
    6.40 Martini Time
    7.20 Tears of the Sun
    7.50 Cartmell Cleave
    8.00 The Game Changer

GL all and thanks for the tips!!

  65. Alanm 4 years ago

Wasclueless you have got it spot on pal because a few always come up a winner most days and as I have said one day a big big bet is going to be won by someone on this thread hopefully me but it’s gonna happen soon. :)

    Singles and double

well done all with winners today. Haven’t looked through the comments in great detail just yet. But I know Johnb and boz both had good winners!

  112. Alanm 4 years ago

Duncan bets 1 to 3 we try to get a bit of value then if it still running then the odds will shorten but never below evens and the cycle stops at 5 no matter what and we move on if two cycles hit together then it’s ended unless we are at the stage of dividing by 5 .
bet one stuffed but on to bet 2 tomorrow. Nap soon ;-)

  113. Dariusz 4 years ago

Matraash placed 3rd with SP 20/1.
That was so close – beaten only by a head and a neck.

Each way bet paid £5 for £2.

  114. Alex 4 years ago

JohnB never in doubt, made it off the tube and got into the bookies for the last 3 furlongs frantically trying to get the colour of who we had backed. I was confident of the pick and promised myself that if it did win I would back Able Friend with the lot so that is what I will do mind I only had £8 to win :)

  115. david taylor 4 years ago

    Hi all,

Im having a look at the 8.20 windsor.

I really fancy time flies in this as i just feel atletico may need the run having been off for 300+ days.

  118. Dariusz 4 years ago

david taylor – I wouldn’t risk a penny in a 6f race with 3 hot favourites and 8 runners in total.
I would rather choose one of the outsiders and play each way.
Anyone can win. Spice Boat (33/1) with his low number and a young jockey on board seems a good bet.

  158. Barnsleylad 4 years ago

Johnb, stats in queen Anne stakes say 4 or 5 year olds win. More so 4 year olds. Is that a worry for able friend?

  159. Duncan Poundcake 4 years ago

Thanks Dougie ,Walker/Baker and Last Fav,I missed the Cumani winner but Hey Ho can’t win them all, good to hear you’re on the mend.

  167. Luke A 4 years ago

Well, that’s why I don’t pick my own selections very often any more.
However, I do continue to follow this thread pretty much daily. Same regulars seem to do well most days, which is great to see! Keep up the great work guys. I’ll continue to take a back seat and leave it to those who do well!
    Good luck all

  168. Rookie 4 years ago

Royal normandy also looks a solid e/w bet in the 16.55 salisbury at 6/1.
May also take the 8/1 as small stakes e/w for ciquenta pasos in the 17.25 at salisbury. 2 from 2 at the course and has the same jockey who won on it at salisbury last month at 9/2 albeit a slightly longer trip

  169. Luke A 4 years ago

Well done John, Dougie, DC, Boz, Rookie and all others with winners today. Great stuff guys

Barnsleylad not really just think if a horse is good enough it doesn’t matter about age and Able Friend is the best miler in the world

  171. dougiec 4 years ago

Two Maiden Auction Stakes start the ball rolling at Salisbury tomorrow,Hannon in the first and son of Paco Boy swanys pal in the 2.25 wont make you rich but will try a tenner double and I see Hannon wants to win the 2.55. Enough for me tonight
    Gl everyone tomorrow

  172. Barnsleylad 4 years ago

Thanks johnb. Will be backing it.
