WITH racing from Newcastle, Wolverhampton, Lingfield and Cheltenham on Friday Thommo brings us six horses to follow in the afternoon.
Lingfield 2.00
UNCLE JERRY (2.00) is unbeaten since blinkers were applied by Richard Hughes and the colt can defy a 6lb penalty at Lingfield.
Uncle Jerry is due to go up another 5lb in future and certainly looked ahead of the handicapper when scoring at Chelmsford City last Thursday.
Lingfield 2.35
NASSYA (2.35) threw away a winning opportunity by hanging left at Yarmouth in September but is given a chance to atone. John Gosden has found her a pretty weak fillies’ handicap.
Lingfield 3.10
WOHILEH (3.10) dropped away tamely over a longer trip at Chelmsford City last time but this 1m 4f maiden may not take much winning.
She had earlier chased home Quicksand over today’s trip at Kempton and fourth horse Birch Grove, beaten almost seven lengths by my selection, came out to win at Wolverhampton.
Wohileh may go off an each-way option if the money comes for once-raced Referee.
Cheltenham 1.50
DOITFORTHEVILLAGE (1.50) is fancied to repeat last year’s success in the two-mile handicap chase on the opening day at Cheltenham.
Nicky Henderson’s gelding won under very similar conditions 12 months ago and underlined his liking for the track when running sixth to Le Prezien in the Grand Annual Chase at the Festival in March.
Cheltenham 2.25
Henderson poses a puzzle by running two fancied horses in the novices’ chase, with JENKINS (2.25) getting the nod over shorter-priced Mr Whipped.
A useful hurdler, Jenkins had little more than exercise gallop when defeating his sole rival on chasing debut at Stratford, jumping accurately throughout.
Cheltenham 3.35
DOUBLE TREASURE (3.35) will go off an each-way price in the 2m 5f Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. Jamie Snowden’s gelding ran a fine race in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow, getting within two lengths of useful Secret Investor.
There was a 20 lengths gap to the third, with the rest trailing, so it looks solid form. Good ground is ideal for this Newton Abbot and Fontwell winner.
