JOHNB is looking to end February on a winning high today with his double-stake tip leading the way.

He drew a blank on Sunday and is 4.23pts in profit heading into the final day of the month.

Johnb's Monday tips

Wolverhampton 1:50
La Asomada 7-4 NAP/NB paddy power (double stake)

Bravo Zolo 11-4 bet365

Double 7.25-1 bet365

Johnb says: “Easily the class horse of the race, Bravo Zolo will relish the step up in distance and although he goes on any surface he does excel on the Tapeta.

“Third at Lingfield last time out but was ridden poorly for that track and on Monday we have a better jockey onboard. He also ran keenly last time so the third place was a pretty good result as he also crossed the line with plenty to spare.

“Only real danger is if the horse doesn’t turn up as this race looks pretty straight forward for him, Our Channel to follow him home in second place.”

Said I would not tip under 3/1 so wont but think Little Glenshee 9/4 is a great bet 2nd to Rocking Blues LTO so will put up for all to see GL

      • elvis parsley 3 years ago

glenshee normally goes off in the lead.
last 3 wins been feb 2013 and here in feb 2014 and march 2015 in 6 and 8 runner fields, 8 go today so similar size.
last win was a hurdle, been chasing since without any joy, but back over smaller obstacles today.
her 2nd last time was franked by the winner rocking blues winning the eider subsequently and glenshee was giving the winner best part of 2 stone that day with the 10lb claimer on rocking blues.
9-4 looks a fair price but that old dog WILLIE HALL gets almost 2 stone with the claimers allowance.
is glenshee 2 stone better the willie ?????
if given the run of the race I think glenshee will prevail, especially as her best form is this time of year.

Why would D Skelton give ride in the first race in Ayr to I Popham, when his brother Harry is there and riding his only ride of the day, odds on in the second race?

  9. thehawk 3 years ago

Maybe does not fancy novice chase getting close to Cheltenham no risking heavy fall just a thought.

  10. Johnb 3 years ago

Surely because I have given Bravo Zolo such a big write up it automatically says how much higher I rate La Asomada, plus people don’t like it when I big a horse up too much, or say it will win because we all know any horse can have an off day, or I could say it’s the closest you can get to a certainty but even in football a penalty can be missed even though it shouldn’t
Her second last time is the best form in the race rated 10lb lower than Englishwoman but only received 5lb and if the race was run over today’s conditions then La Asomada would win, sane is the top rated horse in today’s race but she is still rated too low as she has bags of improvement in her and she has already beaten today’s second/third favourite David’s Beauty last time out in a race that didn’t suit La Asomada
Plus the money that has come for both horses should speak volumes

    • dirk41 3 years ago

John, when you say double stake. That equals to what % of your bank?

I never bet on horses, but been reading these threads and will be trying to follow the good tipsters we have on here.

    New week new approach.

I’ve always liked maidens and I’m going to stick to these from now on. I can’t pick a winner in a handicap for toffee.

    So here goes:

    Wolves 2.50 cee Jay 2/1

I think this is a strong pick. Was 11/4 when I backed it and but didn’t see the new thread.

Noseda is 2/2 with 3yo at Wolves in 2015 and the kyllachy sire isn’t bad round these turns so I fancy it to do the business. The drop the 5f should be in its favour as well.

    Plumpton 2.00 mahlers star 9/4

Drift doesn’t worry me too much and I think it’s last run was solid so I’ll take these odds.

Last maiden at Wolves looks trappy and I’m not convinced about the Fav in this but I’ll wait and look into it a little more.

Poor run from La Asomada which is difficult to explain, she looked like she wanted to quicken but couldn’t, or it may just be a case of she has just bumped into one here as she was quite a bit better than the others

Victoria Pendleton: The backing I have received has been incredible
Victoria reflects on a life changing 12 months

What an amazing 12 months! It’s hard to believe that just over a year ago – February 22 2015 to be exact – was the first time I sat on a horse, and now I’m two days away from my second Hunter Chase, at Wincanton this Wednesday.

Since that day with Chris King and Yogi in Newmarket just over 12 months ago, time has absolutely flown by -I’ve ridden more than 65 amazing horses, made friends for life and have fallen in love with an incredible sport. I can’t imagine life without horses.

When I was mulling over what I knew was a very ambitious, slightly crazy, once in a lifetime opportunity that Betfair had just put in front of me, a big factor I kept coming back to was the need to challenge myself further. Add to that the fact that I knew people would be saying it was an ‘impossible but incredible challenge’, and it was too good an opportunity to turn down.

There have been a few knocks and setbacks along the way and of course there was the fall at Fakenham last week. But being totally honest and realistic, I would be surprised if such setbacks didn’t come with a challenge of this magnitude, and in the sport of horse racing! I love learning and improving, which is something I really missed when I finished cycling and that’s exactly why I’ve been bitten by the horse racing bug.

Since Fakenham last week, I’ve been back riding out with Alan and Lawney Hill, had three Point to Points races which continues to be great learning experience and today I’m down at Paul Nicholls’ yard on Pacha Du Polder. Rather than dwelling on one unfortunate incident. I have focused on listening to what the support team are telling me, analysing my performances and ultimately improving my skills and experience.

I am hugely grateful to the amazing support team Betfair have put in place, without Alan and Lawney Hill, Yogi Briesner and Paul Nicholls none of this would have been possible.
I would also like to thank Chris King and the guys at the British Racing School who persevered with me and gave me the confidence and motivation when I was a complete novice. And of course Andy Stewart and his family who have shown the ultimate faith in me by allowing me to ride the beautiful and hugely talented Pacha Du Polder.

The guidance and support I’ve received from key figures in the racing industry has been amazing, and to school alongside the likes of AP McCoy, Aidan Coleman and Nick Schofield, and for people like Katie Walsh and Tom Scudamore to publicly back me, has been a huge confidence boost.
The whole experience has been an incredible new chapter in my life and it’s definitely a story I will continue writing well beyond the outcome of this challenge, whether I make it to Cheltenham or not.
But for now, I’m focusing on Wincanton on Wednesday and I really can’t wait.

People on this thread have different views but I just have to say that her ride yesterday at Larkhill was outstanding, it was a rough race with her mount getting bumped by other horses, crossing in front of her and generally make it a hard race for her but she came through with flying colours

    • elvis parsley 3 years ago

I thought we had put this Pendleton nonsense on the back burner.
Let’s get Cheltenham over then the whole reality show ends, then racing can move on.

      • Johnb 3 years ago

Some people like to be informed about her progress and the minority that don’t want her to do well and don’t know what she has already achieved don’t have to read it, because they won’t spoil it for everyone else
She doesn’t have anything to prove to anyone anymore because she has already won

        • Johnb 3 years ago

Also they don’t have to watch her races and they don’t have to bet in them

        • elvis parsley 3 years ago

          Won what ?
This is all about her and her ego.
Fast tracked through the ranks, funded by betfair, for their own publicity.
It’s also cheating punters, I’m sure some people would have lumped on pacha du polder last time, and this coming Wednesday for that matter, but with this ego riding it, I’m sure it puts punters off, given her non completion record and lack of experience.
To balance opinion and as John has copied and pasted an article, here are a couple of alternative views to johns

          Daily express
Having failed in all her point-to-points, she was unseated on her first ride over regulation fences in the Betfair Switching Saddles “Grassroots” Fox Hunters’ Chase at Fakenham.
The dual Olympic champion cyclist was riding the nine-year-old Pacha Du Polder for a second time, with the pair having been beaten in a photo-finish at Milborne St Andrew point-to-point in late January.
The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding was the 8-13 favourite for this three-mile contest and Pendleton gave her mount time to find his feet, initially dropping him out at the rear of the six-runner field.
Pacha Du Polder gradually warmed to his task and was moving closer to the leaders when Pendleton needlessly exited stage right, and hit the deck.

          John Francome
Victoria Pendleton’s hopes of riding at next month’s Cheltenham Festival were dashed when she was unseated from her horse at Fakenham on Friday, and one horse racing great believes she should leave the sport altogether.
Former National Hunt Champion jockey John Francome, current analyst with Channel 4, says Pendleton is an “accident waiting to happen”, with the general consensus appearing to be that the Olympic cycling champion was not ready to ride at one of horse racing’s biggest meetings in March.
Pendleton switched saddles in partnership with betting company Betfair, with the challenge to ride at Cheltenham after just a year of riding, but Francome says she could end up seriously hurt.
“She wants saving from herself,” Francome told the Guardian on Saturday – the day after Pendleton’s first outing over fences on a professional track. “I’ve never met her, she seems a lovely girl but she can’t ride and she’s an accident waiting to happen.
“She could have fallen off at any fence. It’s not just about Cheltenham, she could come off on a Sunday afternoon at a point to point. She wants stopping before she hurts herself.”

          Daily telegraph
Fear is not the thing. Nor even danger. Nor trepidation on the part of punters who would rather not see a double Olympic gold medallist and nine-time world champion cyclist fired into the mud. The issue, as in all races, two-wheeled and equine, is pace.
Simply, Pendleton, 35, is moving too fast. She is rushing from point-to-points (a sort of non-league of jump racing) to the elite end of amateur riding, where many of her rivals will be accomplished horsemen and women who have seen the full gamut of gymkhanas, pony racing, work riding for racing yards and salutary experiences around gaff tracks.

The one question I ask is, why is this happening.
If its not all about her and this personal crusade????
What is the point of it all……..

          • Johnb 3 years ago

It’s the old boy stressing about an outsider coming in and doing what he did, John Francombe can’t handle it especially when the here and now people like Lawney and Alan Hill, Yogi Briesner, Paul Nicholls, Jonjo O’Neill, Katie Walsh, Tom Scudamore and AP McCoy to name a few along with owners Andy Stewart and JP McManus are supporting her because they know what she has done already,
Do you really think people like that would put their reputation on the line for someone that wasn’t up to it

  23. on the bob 3 years ago

De Niro. Fair play mate. Well picked.

How did you come to that’s one out of interest?

For me it just didn’t tick any boxes so I scratched it. Looked a turf horse and Kirkby normally gets up for cox on promising juveniles, imo.

I saw it after the race and it is a beast of a horse but never would’ve backed it.

Thank god I didn’t get carried away and add to my stake when all the money came for it. 11/4 into 10/11 was huge but got beat by 2 in the end. Poor by all accounts.

    Anyway, nice one.
