IT'S been a week of cup misery – and I wish I'd taken it off.
We all know these games are a minefield but I've tried to check as much team news as possible and gone with results based on info gathering.
I've said before if you can hold off having a bet until line-ups are revealed that's the best policy. Last night for example PSG and Bayern had to be backed after seeing teams and having already picked the French I advised the Germans on the handicaps.
And hopefully I put most of you off the Barcelona -1AH Super Single after it was revealed Luis nrique was playing his reserves despite earlier suggesting he'd field a strong team at Valencia with an unbeaten club record at stake.
My second Super Single was even more disappointing because everything pointed to a St Etienne win at Troyes – and they did but only after extra time.
It was two out of three on my Top Treble thanks to PSG and btts at Peterborough but I was let down by Hearts winning at Ross County. Hearts did well to pull out a good result with all their personnel problems.
So in the space of a week I've gone from profit to loss and from now on I won't tip foreign cup matches until team news is confirmed or line-ups revealed. That always been my advice to punters and I'm going to listen to myself.
Even Greg Browning was caught out on the cups with his Austrian goals tip missing out.
So I won't make a call on the Spanish Cup semi-final second leg between Celta Vigo and Sevilla with the away side leading 4-0 and nothing yet on the French Cup clash between Trelissac and Marseille even if I'm tempted by the Ligue One side.
Minnows Trelissac stunned Lille in the previous round but this match has been moved from their home venue to Bordeaux and that will give Marseille an edge. They are no bigger than 3-10 at Ladbrokes and Coral.
The Italian game isn't a cup game – it's a Serie A clash. Yippee! However, before you get too excited I can't lump on Lazio who are 8-15 favourites at home to basement boys Verona.
Lazio are expected to win but their form is worse than their visitors with no goals scored in four of their last five – two defeats and two 0-0s. The Romans are missing Stefan de Vrij, Lucas Biglia, Kishna and Stefan Radu while Marco Parolo is banned.
Verona have closed the gap on Frosinone and Carpi to four points thanks to a run of five games unbeaten and were unlucky to just draw 3-3 with Inter at the weekend after beating Atlanta 2-1.
They have in four of their last five in contrast to Lazio and also drawn four of these matches. Verona are written off at 6-1 with the likes of Betfred while the draw is 7-2. Verona also have selection problems and must to without injured Samuel Souprayen, Ante Rebic, Luca Siligardi and Federico Viviani while Luca Marrone is suspended.
There isn't much else on the go tonight so there may be no tips unless Marseille go full strength and I decide to back them on the handicaps or some other market.

I’ve somehow managed to come out of this week with a decent profit despite all of my main bets losing, I got my 1st BTTS 1st half treble up which returned £434 off a fiver – worth sticking a treble on every week, big returns for small stakes. And a few other winners.

HEARTS – have been brilliant this season, Nielson has done an absolutely cracking job and if he keeps it up he has to challenge Mcinnes for manager of the year. I’m a thistle fan and we’ve picked up well after a poor start to the season. We haven’t conceded many away from home recently but we don’t offer much of a threat up front away from Firhill so 1 could be enough for Hearts. Even if we do sit back Hearts have the quality to break us down, they’ve been scoring for fun at Tynecastle recently and despite losing Sow they look to have done some good business in January if last nights performance by Dauda is anything to go by. They’ve beaten us 0-4 and 3-0 this season and I feel they’ll be too strong for us again… 2-0
JUVENTUS – are flying at the moment winning their last 17 domestic matches in a row, winning their last 7 league games without conceding. Allegri essentially admitted that they were complacent at the start of the season and since they’ve realised they have a title fight on their hands they’ve been unstoppable. Napoli have had a fantastic season so far, they’ve been strong at home for the past few seasons but their away form has improved a lot this season which is why they are top of the league. But Juventus have a self-confidence about them that dominating the league for 4 seasons will give you. In those 4 title winning seasons Juventus have won this fixture each time – 3-0, 2-0, 3-0 and 3-1 and I believe that Juventus will win this game on their way to winning yet another Scudetto….2-1
NORTHAMPTON – if one team beats me it will be them, it was a toss up between Wigan and Northampton for the last leg but I went with Northampton at 21/10. Bookies consistently overprice Northampton and I don’t know why, they’ve won 13 out of their last 15 league games! Nolan has had a decent impact on Leyton Orient but they’re still patchy at home losing 2 of their last 3 by 3 goals to 1 against lesser teams that this weekends opposition. I fancy Northampton to sneak this… 1-2
£100 4fold pays £2216 – off to Berlin on Sunday and it would be a nice wee boost to collect this but if not, I’ll enjoy it anyway and go back to lower stakes next week. Playing with profit so for me, it’s worth the risk.

Lazio are the most likely winners but their current lack of goals is a major concern and even though they have won 6 of the last 7 home games against Verona drawing the other 4/9 is way to short for me
