THE Australian Open has been brilliant to watch the past fortnight and this morning it serves up a fitting final with great Scots hope Andy Murray looking to win the tournament for the first time.
Murray has got this far three times before and on two of those occasions been denied by the man he faces today, Novak Djokovic. The world No.1 is 20-43 at Sportingbet to land his fifth Aussie Open crown while Murray is 21-10 at bwin.
Djokovic leads 15-8 on the head-to-head stats but wasn't at his imperious best in his five-set semi-final win over Stan Wawrinka, whereas Murray put on a masterclass to beat Tomas Berdych. Over 3.5 sets in the Final pays 10-21 at 888sport and for a five-setter it's 14-5 at Boylesports.

I gave 3 key reasons why Seattle won last year Super bowl last year and now I am going to flip it and say why New England can win the Super bowl.
1: The two B’s Bilichick & Brady. The best Coach/QB combo in the game. Brady will play in his 6th Super bowl winning his first three. Belichick is an hall of famer coach, expect some guys you never heard of step up and make some plays and some exotic play calling.
2: 16-0 at Half time. That was the score a fortnight ago to the Green Bay Packers in Seattle. Aaron Rodgers was playing on one leg. There was a play I remember he moved outside the pocket he had an easy first down if healthy and I think even on one leg he could have made it, but decided to throw into the end zone and it was picked off by Richard Sherman. “Terrific” Tom wont let that kind of lead slip, and deep balls into the LOB (legion of boom) will be when he gets reads he likes.
3: And this is were I think the Super bowl is won in my eyes, Running. Marshawn ” I’m just here so I won’t get fined” Lynch, carries the load for the Seahawks, whilst I expect the Patriots to run by committee. LeGarrette Blount, Shane Vereen and even Jonas Grey (see no1 point, he ran for over 200yds versus the colts). I expect plenty of little short plays by the pats to try and keep them out of 3rd and long yard situations.

SUPERBOWL MAIN BETS
I think this Super bowl will be close, and if the Patriots are to win they have to run the ball well. I think they will use little dink and dunks, over the line of scrimmage to Gronk and out the back field to Vereen. The LOB will dominate the Patriots WRs but they have a big problem, and his name is “the Gronk”. Seattle and the LOB cant control NFL top Tight Ends
They lost 4 games in the regular season and were owned by good TE’s. Antonio Gates grabbed 3TDs and Witten grabbed a TD in two of those losses. Seattle beat Denver in overtime in week 3 and both TE Julius Thomas and Jacob Tamme scored in that game. As anyone heard of Mychal Rivera? he is the tight end at Oakland and guess what? he scored 2 touchdowns against this Seattle D. The Gronk is 5/6 to score at William Hill.
Seattle QB Russell Wilson is 2/1 anytime with Hills and with the Pats D matching up with Seattle WRs and TE, Wilson may have to make a big play with his legs if they get down to the red zone. The 2/1 looks a decent punt to me.
The other reason to like the Patriots is their running game and Seattle run defence. My main prop bet is LaGarette Blount O62.5yds at evens Paddy Power. As I say if Patriots are to win they need to make the field small in terms of yardage. They don’t want to be going on 80+ yard drives. A strong running game is vital and when Seattle lose they give up more than 62.5yds rushing. DeMarco Murray ran for 115yds, Jaamal Charles ran for 159yds and Tre Mason (rams) ran for 85yds, all in winning results against the Seahawks. In the post season Jonathan Stewart ran for 70yds and in the NFC Championship game Eddy Lacy ran for 73yds. Blount if he gets the majority of the hand offs and the Pats are in contention should cover the line.
The Pats secondary have been overlooked in all the build up to this game. The “experts” have all be talking about the formidable LOB, but the Pats have some pretty good sharks back there, Brandon Browner and especially Derrelle Revis, nobody wants to end up on Revis Island. They also have guys like Collins and Hightower who will rush Wilson and try to keep him in the pocket and force him to rush his throws. He showed against Green Bay for 3 quarters he can be rushed and hurried and so 8/11 (Skybet, Paddy Power, boyles and Stan James) for Wilson to throw an interception looks good, especially if they are playing from behind.
The Super bowl MVP market is interesting, and I’m taking a player from each side. I mentioned in my post last night that a defensive guy won it for the first time in 11 years, in the past 20 years 11 have gone to QBs. If your tempted by Gronk, ask yourself why? if he scores 2tds and has over 100yds, who has thrown him those catches, Tom Brady. He is a worthy favourite at 6/4, however I will appose him and go with a long shot and RB LeGarette Blount at 25/1 various.
Seattle won a blow out last year and Russell Wilson didn’t get it, so if they repeat this year then the 80% of press guys who get the vote wont deny him two years running surely, despite what the 20% fans vote for. If Seattle wins then Wilson becomes the poster boy for the NFL, and I cant recall a QB who wins back to back Super bowl rings not getting the MVP. He is 11/4 at Bwin.

I know cycling is quite new to most people in the UK, so maybe you have never heard of Cyclocross. This form of cycling is huge in Flanders and quite big in The Netherlands . Basically it’s racing through muddy fields on a road bicycle. This Sunday the World Championships are held in the Czech town of Tabor. Below you will find my thoughts.

Firstly lynch will break 100 yards tonight so getting on lynch over 87.5 yards is a must for me. Prior to last week new England had given up 114 yards on average to the previous 3 rb, if Justin forsett can get 136 yards there is no reason lynch won’t surpass this.

Regarding the props yes I would say the Brady completions is my strongest one. If they go behind he will have to throw it all over Phoenix. I expect a lot of dink and dunks as I said in my write ups, Blount and Vereen out the backfield and Gronk and Wright over the line of scrimmage with Belichick you never know if Blount fumbles he will be benched. Jonas Grey ran for 200yds v colts and was late for a team meeting, Belichick dropped him, hardly been seen since.

You can run the ball or pass it long as you pick up 10 yards every 4 plays most teams will kick on their 4th play if they not got 10 yards. I’m no American football buff but I went with some of the guys on here and backed the Seahawks, watching the game and I’m feeling confident, the hawks just seem to be able to rush/score/touchdown at ease even although they haven’t had the ball that much lol, there’s probably better terminology but you know what I mean…….also I had a fair bet on lynch anytime touchdown thanks to a post in here(chief maybe) so even if the hawks don’t manage I,m still well up, happy days.

What a game! Patriots running the dink and dunk offence, I thought they may do. Brady is marching the pats up and down the field, the one time they got pressure up on Brady he threw it blind for an interception.
Wilson struggled early in first Quarter, but a huge deep ball, got them going, and that call just before halftime to level the game could be a game changer, as Seattle get the ball first in second half, and Seattle can go deep on this Pats secondary were as Brady seems be reluctant to go after the LOB. Gronk scores again as I mentioned Seattle struggle with TE’s so it was no surprise to seem him score, although it was to see him lined up out wide.
I mentioned Collins and Hightower in my preview, and since Hightower left the game Seattle have started to get the momentum.

Seattle need to score a TD now really as a field goal might not be enough. They don’t want New England coming at them with the clock ticking down as the Pats could end it with a TD and an extra point in that scenario.

Jordan, no worries mate, I stood alone on the thread by backing the Patriots, everyone was on Seattle. Last year I was on Denver, I got it wrong.
I am a big fan of the NFL enjoyed the game and won a few quid not just tonight but throughout the season, and being on here for almost 3 seasons now, I am pleased how this thread has grown for fans of other sports. I was the first person to post a rugby league tip, and now we get this thread, which is a lot of fun.
To be fair chief the catch to get to the goal line was crazier than the David Tyree catch but it’s just such a crazy call in that situation. Pete Carrol clearly doesn’t play Madden. That was asking for a FB dive haha
I have to thank you, Lee (not DeAndre ;) ) for getting me into the NFL this season in what has been an absolute thrill and I’ve profited well from it and also think I’ve tipped well for my first season.
