MANCHESTER CITY are emerging as serious title contenders and victory against Arsenal tomorrow will put the frighteners up the likes of Chelsea and Man United.
Roberto Mancini’s men trail Chelsea by five points with a game in hand and are beginning to look the real deal. World Cup winner David Silva has started to stamp his brilliance on the side and Manny Adebayor broke his scoring duck with a hat-trick against Lech Poznan on Thursday.
The fact Mancini could rest half a team, with the likes of Carlos Tevez, Gareth Barry, James Milner and Yaya Toure ready to return today, shows the depth of talent he has at his disposal. City have already beaten Chelsea this season and can make it four wins in a row against Arsenal at home if the likes of Silva outshines his Spain team-mate Cesc Fabregas.
Tevez has popped up with crucials goal for the home side and the Argentine striker’s double at Blackpool last week took his tally to seven in seven. Coral’s 6-4 for the former Manchester United man to add to that total could allow punters to cash in on that rich vein of form.
Man United are by no means certs at Stoke tomorrow and could well be held to another draw. The club will be boosted by Wayne Rooney’s decision to sign a new deal but the England striker is out injured.
United have drawn all four league matches on the road and don't look reliable enough at the moment, especially at best odds of 8-11 with 888sport. Stoke are 9-2 at Betfred but it might be worth taking them on the draw no bet market at 3-1 with Chandler.
Following his sensational U-turn Rooney is 2-5 with Paddy Power to celebrate his next Man United goal by kissing the badge. He is 9-4 to go into the crowd and 9-1 to run to Sir Alex Ferguson. Paddy Power make Rooney 33-1 to name his second child Alex and the manager is 100-1 to be the baby’s godfather.
Liverpool are another side who don't inspire much confidence but need a result and might be worth considering at 4-6 with totesport to lift the Anfield gloom with a victory over Blackburn who are 5-1 with the same firm. Roy Hodgson’s side dug in to record a 0-0 draw in Naples on Thursday and can build on that result by edging out Rovers in what is a must-win game.
Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard return and it's the latter who looks more likely to score first at 6-1 with Skybet. It can get even better for Liverpool as well as they can combine victory with a clean sheet, an outcome quoted by Ladbrokes at 6-4. Sam Allardyce’s men have drawn a blank in their last couple.
The Man City v Arsenal clash is 6-4 with Hills to be highest scoring ahead of Liverpool v Blackburn 7-4 and Stoke v Man Utd 7-4. And for the highest scoring team today they go Man Utd 9-4, Liverpool 5-2, Man City 3-1, Arsenal 4-1, Stoke 9-1 and Blackburn 10-1. I'd take a punt on Blackburn who face a misfiring Liverpool side short of confidence. Liverpool, living off their past reputation, are 5-2 with Hills to score the quickest goal ahead of 10-3 Man Utd, 7-2 Man City, 4-1 Arsenal, 13-2 Blackburn and 13-2 Stoke.
