DEFENDING champ Michael van Gerwen made it past round one at the World Darts without hitting top form yesterday while fellow Dutchman Jelle Klaasen dazzled in his victory over compatriot Christian Kist.
It was an early exit for three-time winner John Part, though, as he crashed out to rising star Keegan Brown. On Friday Phil Taylor begins his tilt at a 17th world crown against Germany's Jyhan Artut, whose odds of 25-1 say it all about his chances of shutting down The Power.
Also on the oche in today's five matches are last year's runner-up Peter Wright, who is 1-4 against Gerwyn Price (4-1), and 12th seed Andy Hamilton v Dave Richardson.
It's all to play for in the final cricket ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand in Abu Dhabi. The series is finely poised at 2-2 and Pakistan are 8-13 for the win today with the Black Caps 7-5.

Good Morning all,really looking forward to the darts tonight especially ‘Gezzy’ Gerwyn Price v Peter Wright.Gerwyn is a local player from my area and has impressed a lot of players since joining the PDC and certainly has the game to beat Wright especially over such short format.Rod Harrington was asked on TalkSport to name his ‘Player to lookout for’ or the player who could spring a surprise and his pick was ‘Gezzy’.

Northy,if you go on flashscores ‘other sports’ and then click on darts it will show you the form of the players and recent head to head’s but it wont show any favourite doubles or colours.Most players leave d20 or d16 but i’d stay clear of that market.I’ve had a look at the market for tonights games and the bet that stands out for me is Taylor to win 3-0 at 1/2.Not great odds but when you take into account he’s 1/40 just to win the game the 1/2 for a 3-0 win looks great.

Red is usually 4/7 & Green 13/8. I turned £8 into over £100 last night betting on green when players who preferred double 16 looked like they’d be on a finish first. Market usually stays open until a player is under 200 with bet365. It doesn’t come in every bet obviously, but if you are sensible with the stakes it can be profitable

***3 out of 4 of the Handicap tips wasn’t too bad. I did pick the wrong one for my NAP though. I was tossing up between Knicks & Thunder, in the end the Thunder (despite a lightening fast start) were just 3 points short of landing the handicap, which also let down my 2 of my Accumulators.
However, if you took the advice to Perm and Trixie these bets then your stake would have been returned.
In the end I made a very small profit, which is better than a loss.***

Evening guys, I am sticking to minimum bets for sensible stakes as I said yesterday it is tough in the opening round over the short format. Klaasen let the totals down last night, having switched to treble 18 to get 174 instead of 180s but that goes in the note book for next time.
Phil Taylor begins to challenge for the title and having seen MVG struggle last night, I think he will be out to make a big statement. Taylor often switches to treble 19 if the first dart doesn’t go in right, but at 11/10 various on a tough night I will take him to hit O3.5 Maximums. I would advise sensible stakes as he does cover but if Artut can nick a couple of legs, he may well cover his line at a good price.

NY Islanders at Detroit Red Wings over 5.5 goals @ 2.23
start time: 7:35 PM local (12:35 am for my friends across the pond)
This game has a high probability of seeing 6 goals according to my handicap.
The Islanders have been a very good scoring team this season and have scored at least 3 goals in 7 of their last 8 games (4 goals twice). They are off back to back 3-2 wins but before those two games they had lost 3 surrendering 6 goals twice to St. Louis and 5 in the other to Minnesota.
Detroit ranks 3rd in the league in home goals scored, having netted 56 in 19 home games (2.94 gpg). The Islanders average 2.56 gpg on the road but overall are the Leagues 4th highest scoring team at 3.00 gpg. NY also surrenders 3.18 gpg on the road which is right on with Detroit’s home average.
My handicapping gives both teams a high probability of 3 goals each. There is also supporting trend data for this play in addition to the statistical data.
League wide, games involving road teams off a close win by 1 goal over a division rival (NYI) v an opponent off a home loss (Detroit) gave gone 54-26 over the total the last 5 seasons for a winning percentage of 67.5%. This situation has come up 5 times this season and has gone 4-1.
Detroit flourishes against poor penalty killing teams such as the Islanders going 27-15 over v teams with a 19% of worse penalty kill like NY has.
Islander Friday night road games the last 3 seasons have averaged 6.8 gpg (11-3 over) and 6.2 gpg when playing on the road off a home game (14-6 over). In both those situations both teams have averaged at least 3 goals.
This game has all the ingredients in place for a high scoring game.

Dallas Stars at Calgary Flames over 5.5 goals @ 2.00
start time 9:30 PM EST (2:30 am for my mates in the UK)
This game also provides some very favorable over situations.
First and foremost there is a league wide situation in play that is 40-16 (71.4% win rate) over the last 5 seasons. This situation calls to play over the total when any team off a home loss by 2 or more goals (Calgary 5-2 loss hosting New York) v an opponent off a road shutout win (Dallas 2-0 winners at Vancouver) This situation is 3-0 this season.
Calgary is in a very poor run at the moment losing 6 straight and allowing 3 or more goals in 5 of them. (4 goals twice and 5 once) Calgary can score however noting they did score 12 goals in the 3 games prior to this losing streak.
Dallas has gone 6-2 over the total in their last 8 games and despite their 2-0 shutout at struggling Vancouver, have a very battered And weak defense that has allowed 5 goals in 5 of those last 8 games.
Dallas gas been poor killing penalties lately and it would serve them well to stay out of the box. Of note, Calgary is 9-2 over against poor penalty killing teams where teams score on over 17.5% of their PP chances. The average combined goals in those games are 6.8.
The opposite of this also has supporting data as Calgary is scoring on more than 17.5% of their PP chances. This is not worthy because Dallas is 12-4 over the total in their last 16 against teams that score on more than 17.5% of their PP chances with those games averaging 7.3 goals. If their opponent is scoring on more than 19% of their PP chances this season, Dallas is 9-2 over with those games averaging 7.6 total goals.
Bottom line here is that Calgary comes up against a good opponent to end their losing streak but because they have been playing so poorly I’d rather play the goals market rather than trust a Calgary win.
Finally, Calgary is playing only their 2nd game in 5 nights so will be rested. They are 7-1 over the total this season when playing only their 2nd game in 5 nights this season with those games averaging 6.6 combined goals.
