ANDY MURRAY has been handed a tricky opener at the US Open against Aussie wild child Nick Kyrgios.

Kyrgios has hit the headlines more for his bratish on-court behaviour than his quality of tennis recently – he copped a fine and suspended 28-day for lewd remarks about Stan Wawrinka's girlfriend – but is one of the toughest starts Murray could have landed.

The British No.1 – second favourite for the title at 4-1 with Paddy Power – has already beaten Kyrgios in straight sets in the Australian and French Opens this year and providing there's no slip-ups he could meet Wawrinka in the last eight and Roger Federer in the semis.

Top seed Novak Djokovic (5-4 at Sportingbet to win the tournament) begins against Brazil's Joao Souza while defending champ Marin Cilic will tackle a qualifier and women's title holder Serena Williams starts her bid for a career Slam against Russia's Vitalia Diatchenko.

There are ATP and WTA matches from America today while the Auckland Darts Masters gets under way with all the big names in action.

Other sporting highlights include snooker and cycling so post your tips and chat here and good luck with your bets.

    My fun bet lost.

It’s a no bet day for me again. I don’t like the lines. I’ve got the same feeling today as I did yesterday. Might find a fun bet later.

I’m saving my cash for tomorrow. Samardzija is up for the White Sox so as long as the line isn’t set stupid high he’ll probably be my first pick.

Dazzler I think hits set high cause of the high scores at the beginning of the week, some tight low scoring games last 2 nights

World Snooker is investigating “unusual” betting patterns in a match between England’s Martin O’Donnell and Thailand’s Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon at the Paul Hunter Classic in Germany.

    O’Donnell won Friday’s fourth-round match 4-2 in Furth.

Chief who do you fancy in the challenge cup final tomorrow between Leeds and Hull KR ?
    Leeds are about -14.

    • thechief 9 years ago

Rensen, I cant see past the Rhinos mate. Albert Kelly is key for Hull KR, I suspect he will play but I very much doubt he is 100%

Picksix, Lee and the chief. What do you boys think of the Vikings @ EVS on their opening game at the 49ers? Surely they are a given with the 49ers losses that are still coming.

  8. Jordan 9 years ago

AP’s first game back on MNF too. Think I know what my prop bet will be :)

Jordan, It could go either way mate. They have had a brutal offseason but Bowman is back this season that’s huge, and before all the retirements they had recruited well. If their new OC can wake Vernon Davis up he would be like a new player. The guy Harold in the draft looks good to. Vikes are one of my dark horses and if they are going to get to the playoffs this is the type of game on the road they have to win.

I may sit week 1 till we see what’s what and just enjoy all the games SKY have got with of course some chicken :D

Last time I checked all day was bookies favourite to be leading rusher which is amazing saying he been out for a year, just shows what a great player he is.

Just on 49ers check out Jarryd Hayne highlight reel, he is ripping up the preseason. A former Rugby league player who was one of the best of his generation, getting it done in the NFL and maybe not make the final 53. He could be as good as Devon Hester as a returner.

Cheers chief. Like you say if they want a playoff run they should win against a depleted Niners. I’m sure Lee will agree haha

I’m a bit wary of backing rush/pass/receiving leaders as injuries are all too familiar but if AP stays healthy then surely he’ll be up there. Me and Picksix were talking about that Hayne the other night. Had some huge plays so far. Think a 50 yard punt return and a couple of 20+ yard runs.
