THE only online bookmaker listing first-scorer prices on all SPFL games are McBookie.com. It’s a great service they provide and we’ve teamed up with the Scots firm to look at some of the best bets from the Scottish lower leagues.
Also, if leave a first-scorer prediction at the end of this article you will have a chance to win a £10 free bet with McBookie.com.
You can choose from Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two and one correct entry will be picked at random to win the prize. Quote player, team, his odds and a reason if you like.
Last week just one person tipped a winner with Barryt83 going for Queen of the South's Derek Lyle at 15-2 at Dumbarton so he wins the £10 free bet. Email your McBookie username to firstname.lastname@example.org for the credit to be arranged.
Meanwhile, here is McBookie.com’s Damian Walker with his Saturday selections.
Damian writes: It’s not Rangers, not Hearts, not Hibs, but Queen of the South who sit top of the SPFL Championship table with a plus six goal difference and 100 per cent record.
The Doonhamers have been in free-scoring mood since the season kicked off and striker Iain Russell has five goals from three games while partner Derek Lyle has four in four.
Queen of the South are odds on to maintain their run on Saturday with a home fixture against Livingston – and don’t be fooled by Livi’s 4-1 win over Hearts in midweek.
The Jambos made 10 changes from the team that beat Hibs and it looked more like their Under-20s squad plus James Keatings rather than the first team. Just wish I’d seen the starting 11 before kick-off as Livi were nearly 3-1.
Anyway, Russell has hit a goal every other game since joining Queen of the South from Livi and he 9-2 with McBookie to grab the opener against his old club.
Staying in the Championship and I didn’t think Hibs were all that bad even though they lost in the Edinburgh derby last weekend. In fact, had Liam Craig been able to kick a football 12 yards in the intended direction it could have been a totally different result.
Hibs entertain Falkirk on Saturday and ought to bounce back to winning ways. Striker Farid El Alagui (whose name I need to check every time I spell it) has two goals in two Championship games this season and is 5-1 to score the first goal of the game with McBookie.
The biggest game in League One at the weekend sees Peterhead entertain Morton and there has been a significant move in the antepost betting for the Blue Toon this week.
McBookie have kept Peterhead onside this season but plenty of firms have been trimming their odds this week and don’t be surprised if McBookie have them as second favourites for the league title at 5pm on Saturday.
Peterhead further strengthened their squad with Dundee United’s Mark Millar joining recently and a win in midweek confirmed their continued progress.
Rory McAllister goals helped take them to the League 2 title last season and the prolific striker is 4-1 with McBookie to send them on their way to another three points with the opening goal.
Finally, there’s another big game in League 2 this weekend with my ante-post fancies Albion Rovers taking on title favourites, East Fife.
The Fifers thwarted the gamble of the season on Tuesday night when they beat Highland League champions Brora 3-2. The Cattachs had been backed from 11-4 into an astonishing 23-20 at kick-off and McBookie were wearing the East Fife colours that night!
That testing trip to the Highlands and another away fixture on Saturday could leave them vulnerable to Albion’s excellent squad. John Gemmell started on the bench in midweek for Albion and should be fresh for this crucial fixture and is 9-2 with McBookie to get the Wee Rovers off to a flyer with the opening goal.
Russell (QoS) 9-2
El Alagui (Hibs) 5-1
McAllister (Peterhead) 4-1
Gemmell (Albion Rovs) 9-2
