IT was a day of near misses on the Europa League with my btts treble being a goal short and the Top Treble needing one goal from Torino.
My Super Single St Etienne flopped at Qarabag on a night when I could have taken the likes of Legia Warsaw or Bruges who I flagged up.
So we move on to Friday and I've only looked at three big games – Bayern Munich v Wolfsburg to kick off the Bundesliga, PSG at Evian in French Ligue 1 and the Spanish Super Cup second leg between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
I'm now focusing on my weekend columns and tips but if I get a chance to do so I'll look at other games but it's unlikely.
So let's start with Bayern whose boss Pep Guardiola has warned his men not to take Wolfsburg lightly with his squad missing six top stars. Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribery, Thiago, Javi Martinez and Rafinha are injured while Jerome Boateng is banned, prompting the Spanish coach to say “I've got no midfielders”.
However, the champions don't lack talent with the likes of keeper Manuel Neuer, World Cup-winning captain Phillip Lahm, Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze in their line-up. New signing Robert Lewandowski will start and the biggest threat could come from Holland star Arjen Robben who was one of the players of the tournament in Brazil.
So despite Guardiola's concerns I'm backing Bayern to get off to a flier and they've beaten Wolfsburg in their last seven meetings at home, scoring an average of three goals.
A biggest price of 1-4 with McBookie won't tempt many though so what about backing over 2.5 goals at 2-5 with McBookie – this has come up in five of the last seven playings of the fixture.
Lewandowski has lashed in 66 goals in three seasons for Dortmund and is 3-1 at bet365 to bang the opener. Robben can't be overlooked and he is 4-1 at bet365.
While Bayern shopped for Lewandowski, Wolfsburg brought in Nicklas Bendtner and for me that sums up the difference in quality between the sides.
Atletico and Real clash in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup. Tuesday's meeting at the Bernabeu was a fairly tame affair that sparked to life in the final 10 minutes with both sides scoring in a 1-1 draw.
That was the 90-minute score in the Champions League Final too and this could be another stalemate. Best bet though could be both to score at 8-11 at McBookie.
French champions PSG are also in action at Evian. This has been a tough venue for the superstars but Evian look a watered-down side having started with a 3-0 defeat at home to promoted Caen and 6-2 thrashing at Rennes.
PSG can't be ignored at 2-5 with McBookie and others even though they are without the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The favourites still have Edinson Cavani who is 4-1 with bet365 to score first and Ezequiel Lavezzi who is 5-1. New boy David Luiz is 18-1 at Skybet.
There are loads of other games of course and I look forward to seeing tips on games in French Ligue 2, the Jupiler League and across the continent.
I've had a lot of writing to do today then working tonight so haven't had a serious look at Friday's card. However, I've spotted Greg putting up Angers and I'll be on them while Nancy-Nimes btts looks another good shout.
After all the debate about how Bayern will do tonight I'm sticking my neck out and taking Lewandowski to score first as the Super Single. He was top scorer in the Bundesliga last season and should be in decent shape having not been at the World Cup.
I might double up with Cavani who is 4-1 at bet365 but that's not a tip so anyone who agrees should do two singles.

I tipped up FC Nottingden two weeks ago to win which they did then last week BTTS and a seperate bet on them to win. They lost but the BTTS came up. They lost which was a surprise given their wonderful home record which looks like – 10 played 2 losses, 1 draw and 7 wins in those 10 games they’ve scored 2 or more 8 times.
Today they play Koblenz who sit bottom of the league and winless. 4 played and 3 losses with one draw. These are the mugs of the league who have conceded 8 and scored just twice. They’re away record so far is played two lost two scored once and conceded 6.
The head to head shows two games both from 2004 so as far as I’m concerned can be disregarded.
On paper this is a strong home team against a poor team and a team who don’t travel well having only won once out of the last 10 away games scoring in just 4 of those ten.
I can only see one outcome which is a home win, best odds are even money which on a Friday night is fine. If that isn’t big enough then use it as a double or treble. Anyway, you heard it here first! FC NOTTINGDEN, kick offs at 6 boys!! In the words of Ray Winstone, let’s get right on it lads. Just a quick shout out I reckon BTTS looks a certain for aldershot V Forrest green so if you want a cheeky double then add that at 4/6 to FC Nottingden win.

Combined odds for the treble are 4.061 (3/1)
As Mr F correctly said PSG has been struggling at Evian in the past. While they will miss today Thiago Silva, Zlatan and Van de Wiel I still believe they will be too strong for Evian who has been struggling this early season, letting in no less than 9 goals over the first two league games so far.
In the absence of Zlatan all eyes will be on Cavani who found back his goalscoring feet last week. I expect multiple PSG goals and we should see at least one from the Matador. By the way, Pastore any time goalscorer looks good too.
Bordeaux at Nice on Saturday shows the current Ligue 1 leaders who have a great start under new coach Willy Sagnol go to Nice, who had an OK start. Bordeaux were impressive so far, and also have won on their last two trips to Nice. They should do well again, but we are careful and are betting on the double chance draw / Bordeaux.
In Norway Sandnes hosts Viking. Viking has done generally well recently except for getting trashed by league leaders Molde in the Cup. They generally have no problem scoring though, and are travelling to a completely out of form Sandnes, who won 2 pts in their last 5 games. Again, for the sake of security we play the double chance draw / Viking

Cannot believe Brendan Rodgers has got Mario Balotelli. Rodgers publicly stated “I can categorically tell you Mario Balotelli will not be at Liverpool”. Liverpool just got rid of one headcase and then they go along and replace him with another.
Rodgers has to be prepared for arguments in the dressing room as the guy is a liability and it only takes one rotten apple to drag a whole team down.
I believe he will be an asset to Liverpool. My understanding is he has been well liked amongst players at his clubs, he just likes messing about and starting fires. Danny the stats don’t lie but neither does the players effort on the field of play, that’s if the player isn’t a sub or suspended for the most part. Danny realistically Mario was part of those teams but how much he really contributed is up for serious debate.
There’s no point in comparing trophies, because otherwise we could all sit here and say that Wes Brown is absolutely world class with the medals he had.
Balotelli at 16 million is a steal, as long as he doesn’t disrupt the dressing room. It doesn’t really matter (to an extent) whether he sets off fireworks in his house or whatever, its 95% about what he does on it.
At the same time, it will be tough to compare them at the end of the season, different kinds of players. Balotelli may score more, but Rooney will almost certainly get more assists and work harder. Its like comparing Hazard and Özil, they bring different things.
But for the sake of things, goals are most important, I still don’t think this argument will be settled either way.
Jack I agree with most of that but the argument for me was that Rooney has not achieved so much more than balotelli has. Which was what originally was suggested . That’s why I used trophies as a example of this.
Danny perhaps I could have been a bit more to the point. Mario has scored a total of 88 club goals from 222 club appearances in his career compared to Rooney’s club goals of 234 from 520 appearances.
Even allowing four years more for the age gap between the two I think its safe to say Mario wont be much of a comparison on Rooney by this time.
Dudes that means Rooney has scored in 45% of games and balotelli in 39% of his games so I think he could surpass that given he has 5 years to make up 6%
Unlikely because by the time Rooney retires he should hold a similar percentage of goal to appearances over Mario. Also factor in the amount of times Mario will no doubt be left on the bench.
Anyhow this was never meant to be who is the better player, it was simply me giving my view on Brendan Rodgers signing Mario in the first place.

Here’s some thoughts for tonight’s card:
France D2:
TROYES (1.50) and ANGERS (1.60) home wins double. Small price but reasonably safe. Troyes started off liked a rocket and should have no problems with a weakenend Laval-side. Angers (already flagged by Greg) is very strong at home, while Chateauroux is very weak on their away games. Moreover, Angers is at their strongest whereas Chateauroux misses a couple of players.
A BTTS in Nancy (2.00) is excellent value (Nimes always scores at least one). With a little less confidence, I’m also tempted to go for a BTTS in Valenciennes-Le Havre @ 1.88, two teams at the bottom with a horrible defense (Valenciennes 5 against, Le Havre 4).
Word of caution:
-stay away from Creteil for goals tonight as topscorer Lesage (3/6) will be missing.

Anyway, tipping on Friday should be sensible with a packed card on Saturday, saying that when you see a bet that jumps out at you it’s hard to say no.
We’re travelling to Germany, Regionalliga sudwest for FC Nottingden V TUS Koblenz
I tipped up FC Nottingden two weeks ago to win which they did then last week BTTS and a seperate bet on them to win. They lost but the BTTS came up. They lost which was a surprise given their wonderful home record which looks like – 10 played 2 losses, 1 draw and 7 wins in those 10 games they’ve scored 2 or more 8 times.
Today they play Koblenz who sit bottom of the league and winless. 4 played and 3 losses with one draw. These are the mugs of the league who have conceded 8 and scored just twice. They’re away record so far is played two lost two scored once and conceded 6.
The head to head shows two games both from 2004 so as far as I’m concerned can be disregarded.
On paper this is a strong home team against a poor team and a team who don’t travel well having only won once out of the last 10 away games scoring in just 4 of those ten.
I can only see one outcome which is a home win, best odds are even money which on a Friday night is fine. If that isn’t big enough then use it as a double or treble. Anyway, you heard it here first! FC NOTTINGDEN, kick offs at 6 boys!! In the words of Ray Winstone, let’s get right on it lads. I went into Betfred today to put on a double for tomorrow’s games and they said one of my selections (a double chance) wasn’t available in their system so I didn’t place the bet and left the shop. Thing is, I’m going through the mortgage checks at the moment so don’t really want my card putting money into an online account so wanted to do it in the shop in cash but they wouldn’t allow it.
Is it normal that certain markets (like double chance) are unavailable in shops, even if you write it on a blank slip (as in I didn’t fill it out on a coupon)? Is this just a case with Betfred or is it the same with loads of high street bookies? Just curious as to whether it’s worth going William Hill or Ladbrokes in the morning to see if they allow it – if you guys could point me to yes or no, thanks in advance.

Geordie there was a list of 5 players going around twitter and Rojo Vidal Di Maria were of them, Vidal could still go in the next week but Kheidra is a decent replacement. Van Gaal needs as many decent players he can get the now and will be interesting to see how Man utd do on Sunday
United could really use Khedira or Vidal, as much as I’m sure they’d love Di Maria and he’s world class, signing him then makes the Mata signing totally pointless (although everyone knows I already think it was a massive panic buy) they need a centre back desperately be it Benatia or Hummels or whoever is semi-capable.

Atletico Madrid 14/1 to win La Liga? Bookies have gone mental. Mandzukic and Griezmann in Costa out. Real Madrid will score without doubt but Casillas is a liability and Ramos is getting worse. Barcelona have added the madman but a 2 horse race? They are having a laugh. Won plenty from Atletico last season and hopefully will again. 14/1? get a few quid on them.
I agree that 14/1 is very good and I’d love to see Atletico win it again, and they are two very good buys. But they’ve also lost one of the top 5 goalkeepers in the world probably and Filipe Luis. David Villa was also very good when he played. To say its just Costa out is a bit much, especially seeing as Real and Barca have strengthened.
Inter over 4.5 for nearly anytime is decent but Athletico at home to Real?? Too much respect giving to them by the bookies, especially when they had 7 at the Bernabau :)
