GOLF and tennis continues today with action from the Made in Denmark tournament and Wyndham Championship as well as the Western & Southern Open in the United States.

Two of Ace Venturer's tips, Paul Casey and Webb Simpson, are going well in the Wyndham so hopefully he'll get an each-way return.

Andy Murray lost to Roger Federer yesterday and that was tipped on the site. Put up all your tennis, golf and other sports tips here.

Ahhhh. Thanks for the new thread space Mr F.

Another profitable day on the tennis with my daily treble coming in at 2/1 and the daily quadruple also landing at 4/1. It was 1 out of 2 on the singles, with Benneteau to win a set coming in easily as he beat Wawrinka, but Svitolina to win a set losing as she was beaten 2-0 by Ivanovic.

Anyone who backed my Raonic outright tip @ 14/1 could consider cashing out now. I said he was almost certain to reach the semis and that has proven to the be the case. He now faces a red hot Roger Federer however, who is very good at handling big servers and has taken care of Raonic all 4 times they’ve met. The last two were routine straight set wins and, though this could be tighter, given how well Roger played against Murray it’s hard to see Raonic turning the tide here. Raonic is down to 7/2 from 14/1 so there’s some nice profit there. Similarly, if anyone has backed my Wozniaki tip @ 25/1, she is now @ 13/2 so worth keeping an eye on in the Serena game to see if she goes a break up. She took the first set last time they met and if she takes an early lead then the cash out will be even more profitable. Cashing out now for a profit could be the best option for anyone who doesn’t think she’ll fare well today.

With it being the first day of the football season and there only being 4 matches at Cincinnati, I’m not going to be posting much today.

A small 4-fold on the favourites in all the semi finals – Federer, Williams, Sharapova and Ferrer – pays 7/2 and should come in. But as with any fourfold at this stage of a tournament, there are no guarantees.

For a single Sharapova to win 2-1 is 10/3 and that seems to be the most likely scoreline. Maria is playing incredible tennis in the big moments but still isn’t sustaining a high enough level throughout her matches to win comfortably. I will always back her in a scrap, and though Ivanovic is playing well enough to make Maria sweat again, I don’t think she’ll be able to actually put her away. Since the start of the clay court season, 12 out of 29 matches that Maria has played in have finished 2-1 to her. If you’d placed a £10 bet on that result for all her matches during that period you’d be looking at at least £230 profit. I think it’s close to 50/50 whether that scoreline comes in today, so while it’s riskier than my other singles this week, I think it’s worth backing.

Keeping it sensible today as I have some outright winner bets still running and don’t see anything worth risking this weeks winnings over.

So my advice for anyone following today is a sensibly staked

    Fourfold:
    Ferrer
    Federer
    Sharapova
    Williams @7/2

    Single:
    Sharapova to beat Ivanovic 2-1

    @10/3

    Good luck all

  2. Iddy 10 years ago

I’m leaving alone today Ad – as focusing on footy.
I think Ivanovic can win today yhough. I might have her and Benneteau a shot of winning a set.

  3. cooldude 10 years ago

Ad, Wozniaki was 25/1!! was that not quite large considering her form lately. Maybe its because she’s generally considered a baseline defender correct me if Im wrong

  4. Ad 10 years ago

Dude – the odds were so good because of her draw. She was in the same half as Radwanska, Kerber, Azarenka and Serena, which is tough on paper. But because Azarenka was always likely to withdraw/struggle, radwanska could run out of steam after last week, and because wozniakis in great form as you say, it looked generous to me.

    • cooldude 10 years ago

Ad, Is Wozniaki still single? :)

  5. Ad 10 years ago

As far as I know! But I’m not sure id want to go where that goblin Rory Mcilroy has been. I’m feeling a bit nauseous just thinking about it!

    • cooldude 10 years ago

Ha ha true. But he made the right choice as we all know. Wozniaki is bees knee’s in womens tennis imo.

    • 1plus2 10 years ago

dude for both of there careers it was the best thing Rory done by splitting up from Wozniaki

  6. Wato 10 years ago

    Lol lol brilliant

Ad what do you think of £15 or £20 on Federer to win? I know he’s not great odds

  7. Wato 10 years ago

    Dazzler I need you lol
Thanks for the Rays tip last night plus how did the others get on I seen the nationals were leading not sure if they Won?

Rays win 5-0. Yankees compound their misery by failing to score last night.

Great tips again then Dazzler was very close to adding the nationals to make a double but was happy with single. Another would be more than welcome :)

    MIL Brewers @ LA Dodgers
    Dodgers @ 1.54

Kershaw is on the mound and he’s won his last 11 and now going for the longest running streak for a dodgers pitcher in 40 year. He’s also 4 from 5 against brewers.

LA Angels @ TEX Rangers 500 Win LA Angels
    Angels @ 1.6

La destroyed this rangers pitcher last time he started against them. La’s starter is hot at the moment and LA have dominated this tie recently.

    KC Royals @ MIN Twins
    Royals @ 1.92

Royals are on a real hot streak and I don’t see the twins bringing that to an end. Comparing pitchers would also support a royals win.

  11. cooldude 10 years ago

Ad I would love to see Wozniaki beat Serena tonight although its highly unlikely

  12. Wato 10 years ago

Dazzler would the Dodgers be your choice then?

  13. Dazzler 10 years ago

My top pick would be LA Angels. They’re the dominant team in this fixture and against a pitcher who has struggled against them.

Although I think the other two are 4 star picks. This is the first night I’ve been really tempted to do a treble and I’m still trying to talk myself out of it! Currently 4.89 @ bet365

  20. Ad 10 years ago

I don’t think Ivanovic will be able to beat Sharapova, certainly not 2-0 (I’m asking to be made a fool of here!) They both go through bad patches in matches but Maria is the greatest competitor in the womens game. She nearly always steps up to the plate and delivers in the biggest moments. Ivanovic hardly ever does.

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

I didn’t see your tip for Sharapova or I wouldn’t have posted mine. I had a few seconds so I laid down the tip I was going to play personally. I usually find people who post contradicting tips to be disrespectful, so whichever way this match goes, please accept my apologies Ad.

  21. Ad 10 years ago

Wato- I think Federer will win. But I can’t really advise someone else to put a single on at those odds. While I do think Federer will have too much in the end for his more limited and far less experienced opponent, when you’ve played as much tennis as Federer has recently at the age he is, and against someone with the best serve in the business, there are no guarantees. Instead of risking £15/£20 on federer to win @ 1/2, which would return £22.50/£30, you could risk £5 on Fed to win 2-1 @ 10/3 (the likeliest result in my opinion) which would return £21.67. Personally I didn’t see much value in singles today which is why I didn’t place any, other than the Sharapova 2-1 I tipped earlier.

  22. Ad 10 years ago

Haha, no worries Rusty, I would never take offence from someone voicing a different opinion to me on here. I was backing Sharapova to lose yesterday but after seeing the way she came through against Halep I had to back her today. In fairness I haven’t seen Ivanovic play this week, and the scoreline so far suggests she’s in the zone. I still think Maria will pull through though! Can’t stay up to watch it so I’ll wish you luck with yours and tune in tomorrow to see what went down.

  23. Bazza131 10 years ago

What a nailbitter ad should win nw hope so ……

  24. Rustychest 10 years ago

I have to be honest here, this was not one of those games for Sharapova… in no way did I think she had any grip on the game while Ivanovic was in her finest form ever, reading every Sharapova serve, playing perfectly down the line until the referree’s bad call which was the turning point for the match really. Also Ana’s coach didn’t handle it well at all, he smiled at the referree while she was frustrated with him. I think Sharapova has to capitolise on this.

  25. Rustychest 10 years ago

Best Women’s Tennis Match I’ve seen since the 90s. What an incredible display from both players, but Ana Ivanovic… truly at the top of her game.

  26. Ad 10 years ago

Great call on Ivanovic Rusty. I wasn’t able to stay up for it. V surprised Sharapova didn’t win it once she clawed it back to 1-1. And she served for it at 5-4!? 2-0 Ivanovic would have surprised me less than Maria losing from that position/ Ana fighting back after the shock of falling behind from a huge winning position. but that’s tennis I guess. Sounds like a cracker. Just wish Id been awake to cover my bets

Top pick for today is rays, who have drifted to 1.91.

If you want to play it a bit safer rays +1.5 @ 1.46. I know it seems like a very short price but considering Yankees have only scored 10 runs in the last 5 games, +1.5 is a massive average.

  36. Bazza131 10 years ago

Any good pay bets out there tonight ad……

  37. Ad 10 years ago

I’ve been out all day playing a match, just having a quick look now Baz.

I’m not going to do much as I haven’t had much time to study in depth, and I haven’t had the benefit if watching some of these players play recently, but I am on a treble of :

    Paire d Robin Haase
    Makarova d Vinci
Kavcic d Mahut Pays around 2.7/1

Reasoning – paire has the bigger game and has played 9 hardcourt matches since wimbledon, winning 6. Haase hasn’t played any, preferring the clay court tournaments. He has played 6 lost 5 on hard this year.

Makarova, again, has the bigger game. She is also in good form and should have too much game for Vinci if she puts in a decent performance. Though she did reach the final in Istanbul last month, Vinci has still only won 5 out of 15 matches on hard court this year. Makarova has won 21 of 29. Vinci has lost both her matches since losing 6-1, 6-1 to Wozniaki in the final.Add to that the fact Makarova beat Vinci in straight sets on clay earlier this year, a surface that should give Vinci the advantage, and the signs point to a Makarova win here.

Kavcic is having a very good season. mahut is not. though he is generally playing challengers as opposed to the big events, Kavcic is having the best year of his cAreer. He has won 3 challenger hard court titles in the last couple of months and made another final. mahut has only played 9 matches on hard all year and only won 2 of those. he is in poor form and this is far from his best surface. It would be a bit of a surprise if he turned that form around here against someone so grooved on the surface.

  38. Ad 10 years ago

No huge stakes here. I think these are good, logical picks, but without having seen them all play lately it’s not as informed as it perhaps could be.
Good luck to anyone having a bet.

Sorry about that treble folks, looked good on paper but Kavcic played a shocker against a much improved Mahut and Paire should’ve won but did what Paire sometimes does and doesn’t turn up for the duration of a match.

Will be back tomorrow with something better. If i can hit a 66% win rate for the week again i’ll be happy.

    I have 2 picks –

  44. Ad 10 years ago

    Hey Id.
There’s not much out there today that i’m really confident about.
But David Goffin to beat Jurgen Melzer looks good to me @ 4/7. Goffin is the hottest player on tour right now and a combination of great form and high confidence, plus not little talent, should be enough to get him past Melzer, who isnt getting any better, and who has lost his last four matches, two of which were his first hard court matches of the year due to injury early in the season. While there’s a chance he’ll have found his feet a bit with those under his belt, I don’t think he will be able to reach the same level Goffin’s been hitting day in day out recently. 22 wins on the spin should become 23 today.

I also like the look of Dustin Brown to beat Garcia Lopez @ evens. Garcia Lopez is going through a poor spell, his latest of 5 defeats on the spin coming to James Ward. Brown has the weapons and belief to add to his recent struggles, and playing a big player like Garcia lopez he should get himself up for this.

Janowicz should win but there’s always a risk that Berlocq plays some good stuff early on and Jerzy folds. Having said that, Berlocq hasn’t played for a month, and not on a hard court since he was easily beaten by Young in Miami in March. Are we brave enough to trust Jerzy, that’s the question?!

  45. Iddy 10 years ago

Ad – just heard Rafa has pulled out of the US open. I think I might put a bet on Nole. Think he’ll have his head screwed in in will see it as a real chance at another slam if he focuses. Might also go each way on Raonic/ Tsonga depending on how the draw looks.
Having said that I really hope the old man has for another slam in him.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Iddy, problem with Djokovic is he says he can’t concentrate fully until his wife has the baby.

    • Ad 10 years ago

That’s what he says… and while there may be some truth there I’m not sure its’ an excuse that fully accounts for his form. I don’t believe any one thing can cause someone of Novak’s mental steel to lose concentration. If there were genuine fears relating to the babys well-being then I could definitely understand it, but average people get on with their jobs when their other halves are pregnant all time, and Novak is not your average person when it comes to leaving all your baggage at home when you go to work.

  46. Ad 10 years ago

That’s a shame. it’s good news for Roger though. presumably he’ll be in the opposite half to Novak so if he continues the form he’s shown over the majority of this year you’d expect him to make the final. Hopefully Tsonga will fall in Novaks half. Roger won’t be worried about facing Raonic. Raonic could run deep but he won’t be able to beat Djokovic or Federer so I wouldn’t go each way, id back him with a view to cashing out once he reaches the semis

  47. Iddy 10 years ago

Ad – just seen Ferrer is 80/1 for US – must be a good e/w shout as no3 he will avoid Fed/ Djoko until semis??

  48. Ad 10 years ago

You’ll only get paid out on an each way if reaches the final though..?

  49. Wato 10 years ago

Ad would you recommend a single with Goffin or a small double on him and Brown. I see Brown isn’t favourite to win his match, but as we all know the favourite doesn’t always win :)

  50. Ad 10 years ago

    Monday Tennis Tips:

    Daily Single:
Dustin Brown to beat Garcia Lopez @ 1/1 (NAP)

By all accounts Brown was sensational yesterday. He will relish the challenge of beating a big name player in Garcia Lopez, and Lopez is well out of form. He has lost his last 5, including really poor defeats to Jaziri and Ward, and a confident Brown is a huge threat to him on a hard court.

    Outrights:
ATP Winston Salem- Jerzy Janowicz @ 20/1
    David Goffin @ 25/1
    Steve Johnson @ 25/1

(As always with my outright tips i’m going for outside shots as opposed to the short priced favourites. Isner is likely to win here but there could be a bit of value in these two as the draw isn’t very strong.)

All three of these players are in the bottom half of the draw, and will therefore avoid Isner/ Robredo till the final.
Janowicz- played some of the best tennis he’s played for a long time in Cincinnati before he fell to Benneteau. If he builds on that he has a good chance of running deep here. His likely route to the final is Berlocq, Sousa, Vasselin,
Goffin, Anderson/Johnson, and he has the game to get past them all if he’s playing well. It will come down to his mentality, but he should be motivated by the upcoming US open and if he strings it together this week he can go all the way.

Goffin- Perhaps doesn’t have a big enough serve or game to every be a real danger to the biggest players on hard courts, but this guys form is impossible to ignore. The hottest player on tour with 22 straight wins and four straight titles, he has a very manageable route to the 1/4 finals. If he meets my other tip Janowicz there, it’s one that could go either way. Goffins consistency from the baseline will be enough to get him past Janowicz if the Pole puts in a sub par performance, and Goffin has scored wins over Anderson and Isner before (both of whom there are question marks over at the moment.) He will come into this tournament full of confidence and conviction in his game, and while he could get out hit by one of the big guns, there’s a chance he could keep making waves on the ATP.

Steve Johnson has just broken into the top50 for the first time in his career and that’s a reflection of the fact he’s playing his best tennis. In the last two U.S hard court tournaments he beat Isner, Karlovic and Paire, Gulbis before narrowly losing out to Raonic on both occasions. Given how well world number 6 Raonic is playing right now, that’s a good indication of the level Johnson’s game is at. the biggest threat in his quarter is Anderson, but i’m not sure Anderson has managed to put those missed match points against Dimitrov In Toronto behind him, and a slightly off form Isner had no problem hitting his way past him last week. Johnson has beaten Anderson 1 out of 2 tries this year and will be confident of scoring another.

Clearly only 1 of these 3 can make the final, and while I usually don’t like backing bets that go against each other, it makes sense in this draw. I think one of these three will reach the final and have a good chance of lifting the trophy, and at these odds its still profitable to spread yourself. If you don’t want to back three then pick your favourite 1 or two. Realistically Goffin probably has the worst chance of the three, I’ve just been seduced by his sizzling form.

WTA New Haven- Makarova @ 20/1

Seeing as Kvitova is just 5/1 to win the tournament and her first round match v Makarova is a 50/50, these odds seem very generous to me. Makarova beat Kvitova the last time they met a couple of weeks ago, and Kvitova has struggled since winning Wimbledon. If Makarova can beat Kivitova again she is the favourite to reach the final from the bottom half of the draw.

  51. Ad 10 years ago

Wato- I’m sticking with Goffin as an outright tip and not doing a single with him. The only thing putting me off is the fact Melzer won this tournament last year. But everything else suggests he won’t win today.

If you want to risk slightly lower stakes then a double of Brown/ Goffin could be a shout instead of the single on Brown. Or add in one/both of Iddy’s picks if you like those.

  52. Ad 10 years ago

Though i hate to say such things, Janowicz really, really should win today, so he’s another you can add for a bit of value if you fancy it.

  53. Iddy 10 years ago

Ad – the Ferrer thing was based on getting a cash out value on him throughB365 if he goes deep into the tourney. Do they offer cash out values for tourney picks, I’ve never actually done one on b365???
Word of caution on Goffin is that he has an 0-3 record v Melzer. All matches have been played in last 2 years so even though he isn’t on form Melzer will fancy his chances.

  54. Ad 10 years ago

Yeah I think they do cashout on tourney picks, not sure about an each way though, they’re sometimes funny on some bets. haven’t used bet365 for a while though.

Feds down from 9/1 to under 4/1 so hope some of you out there got on at the bigger price.

I yeah there’s no guarantee with Goffin, but I haven’t been very impressed with Melzer when I’ve seen bits of his matches recently. I think he’ll be too inconsistent to put a peak form Goffin away over 3 sets.

  55. Wato 10 years ago

Guys do you think then if say you backed Goffin at 18/1 to win the tournament and he gets to the quarter finals would you be able to cash out for even a bit of a profit or would that only really work if he gets to the semis or the final itself? I use Bet365

  56. Ad 10 years ago

You would get profit yes mate. It’s probably only worth it with a decent sized stake though, depending in how much profit you’re looking for obviously!

Wato – depends who u r doing it with. I know for a fact that will hill don’t do cash outs on any tennis bets. B365 do do it with match bets but never done a tourney one with them, hence why I asked Ad the question.
I am on Goffin Ad – good start 5-2 in set 1. Have him in a small early matches acca.

  58. Wato 10 years ago

Interesting :) should I go with Gobbin or Janowicz I see you mentioned both above and both made good starts in their matches here

    Gobbin 18/1
    Janowicz 16/1

  59. Ad 10 years ago

It’s a tough one Wato. If they both play well Janowicz is more likely to win the tournament. But if he’s not totally up for it janowicz could slump out at any time. Goffin is probably a safer bet to string a few wins together, but Janowicz odds will probably fall more than Goffins if they both reach the quarters as an in form Janowicz will be one of the favourites to win the tournament. Goffin is more reliable, Janowicz is more likely to win the whole thing if he’s firing. it’s not a call I can make, hence why I backed both!

  60. Wato 10 years ago

What I will do is put a small wager on Gobbin to win before his price comes before winning his match here now. I will let you guys know how the cash out thing goes if hopefully he is able to progress a few rounds

Today I used Janowicz in a double with Cork City -1 so going well so far should have put in Gobbin to make a treble but hey lol

  61. Wato 10 years ago

    Goffin even haha :)

  62. Wato 10 years ago

The to win market not there now they must be updating it :(

  63. Ad 10 years ago

a lot of bookies dont allow outright betting while matches from that tourney are in progress. Betfair exchange is one of the few you can do it with and i would recommend everyone has a betfair account. You can also often get up to double the odds on in play matches.

  64. Dazzler 10 years ago

Tougher card today with less games to pick from but 3 for tonight.

    Nationals -1.5 @ 1.86

    Angels -1.5 @ 2.35 (top pick)

    Mariners @ 1.64

    Good luck everyone.

  65. Elliott 10 years ago

    Wozniacki v Bacsinszky at midnight.

Back under 18 games at evens.

Wozniacki is in excellent form and has beaten her opponent twice in the past…both times under 18 games (6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-3 back in 2008 and 2009). Although quite a while ago, clearly wozniacki has since become a top seed and household name.

This is a first round match and wozniacki will want to finish it quick.

  66. Ad 10 years ago

    I just chucked a fiver on 2-1 wozniaki @ 4-1

  67. Ad 10 years ago

    That’s not a tip though!

  68. sparkyg88 10 years ago

Ad or iddy quick question for u guys had wozniaki on the handicap -5.5 thought this was a winner myself maybe just not grasped this handicap market quite yet lol ??

  69. Ad 10 years ago

that bet should’ve come in Sparky. no idea why it hasn’t. Who’s it with?

  70. sparkyg88 10 years ago

Bet365 just been settled there but was in my settled bets as a loss.cheers mate.

  71. Iddy 10 years ago

Sparky – it finished 16-9 to Wozniaki in total games so -5.5 came in. I would query it with them, but just double check u havent placed it wrong.

  72. Iddy 10 years ago

Ad – so the 4-fold I suggested yesterday of Stosur/ Flipkens/ Murguruza/ Janowicz at 4-1 came in easily. Only problem is I forgot to put it on. I had a early matches acca which was let down by Golubev so well disappointed.
Not too many matches today so going to try pick out a treble – looking forward to US open draw on Friday. We’ll have a catch up over weekend in R1 matches and see if we can pick any upsets bookies may have priced wrong.

  73. Wato 10 years ago

Guys just to let you know I was able to do Goffin to win outright this morning at 16/1 so I will keep an eye on the cash out option if he goes a bit further (fingers crossed) lol

  74. Ad 10 years ago

    Good stuff Wato. good luck.
Iddy that’s gutting! I’ve definitely been there before.
    Initial thoughts on today:

    Robredo d mahut @ 1/3
    Janowicz d souza @ 4/9
    Goffin d mayer @ 4/9
    Young d Dancevic @ 2/5
    Johnson d querrey @ 4/5

I think Pennetta will beat Riske but may be a little short @ 4/11

  75. Wato 10 years ago

Cheers Ad any decent doubles or trebles awlways welcome from you guys :)

  76. Ad 10 years ago

    Who do you fancy Iddy?

  77. Iddy 10 years ago

    Janowicz
    Rosol v Harrison 8/11
    Kvitova v Makarova 8/11
That was the initial treble at 3.5/1 I had picked out.
Young was another one I liked the look of. I also agree with your choices in the matches u have highlighted. Querry match is the one I am most unsure of.

  78. Ad 10 years ago

Yeah it’s a risker one – I’ll leave the querrey match alone as I have Johnson as an outright so don’t want all my eggs in one basket.

I’m not sure about Rosol/ Kvitova. I think there’s a few too many doubts for me to put them in a main double/ treble. He should get through okay, but Rosol hasn’t played on hard since march and Harrison has the crowd and a good win over struff behind him. Kvitova I really don’t want to trust with my money at the moment. She could win today and take the title this week or she could slump out in straights to Makarova.

    Tuesday tennis tips:

Keeping things simple and sensible at the start of the week til there’s a bit more form to go on.

    Treble:
    Robredo d Mahut
    Janowicz d Sousa
    Young d Dancevic

    Pays just over 6/4

  80. Wato 10 years ago

Would you be fairly confident with that one Ad?

    • Ad 10 years ago

Fairly confident Wato. All the edges in all three matchups go the way of my picks. But you can never be certain how these things play out. As it’s early in the week i’d advise not going too big with stakes as it’s harder to pick confident winners before you’ve seen how someone’s taking to a particular tournament.

  81. Dazzler 10 years ago

I said it was a tough card last night.

    Nationals -1.5 @ 1.86 *LOSE*
Nationals won 5-4 but couldn’t cover the handicap.

    Angels -1.5 @ 2.35 (top pick) *WIN*
    Angels win 4-2.

    Mariners @ 1.64 *LOSE*
    Phillies win 4-1.

All games start just after midnight tonight so my tips will be up just before that.

  82. Wato 10 years ago

Dazzler as you stated it was a tough one I didn’t take any of your choices on this occasions but excellent main tip again at a good price too. Shame I wasn’t on it lol will keep an eye out later on

  83. Iddy 10 years ago

I think I am going to leave it today and try and focus on the football card. Good luck with the treble Ad

    • Ad 10 years ago

fair enough mate, good luck with that. My only footy bet today will be a little flutter on Giroud first goal @ 11/2.

  84. Wato 10 years ago

I’m on it Ad as a small interest for today

  85. Ad 10 years ago

I didn’t watch the first set but it looks like janowicz lost 1 point on serve. wow.

  86. Wato 10 years ago

    And a collapse??? :(

  87. Wato 10 years ago

Result never in doubt Ad lol :)

  88. sparkyg88 10 years ago
