BIGGEST game on the coupon tonight is the FA Cup clash between Derby and Man United and it's difficult to escape from the fact it's a massive match for Louis van Gaal.

With his side slipping steadily down the table the last thing the Dutch boss needs is an FA Cup exit to a Championship side and in my separate preview I've tipped the Premier League side at evens with Betfred and Paddy Power.

BBC Alba are showing Dunfermline v Airdrie live and while it will be as low key as you can imagine I'm on the Pars to win although best available price is 2-7 at Ladbrokes.

The Fifers have won five and draw one of their last six and will go 10 points clear at the top of League One tonight. On the h2h a handicap isn't advised but they should win by at least two and that pays 5-6 at Paddy Power.

Other big games are Mainz v Borussia M'gladbach in the Bundesliga and Marseille v Lille in the French league.

For goals bets the games to look at are as usual in the Dutch and French lower leagues and we'll see plenty of tips.

As usual my focus at this time of the week is on my Saturday tips and Daily Record column but I've finished those while watching Andy Murray beat Miles Raonic to reach the Final of the Australian Open.

Pre-tournament I advised 10pts on Novak Djokovic to win and that can be covered although I'm leaving it at the moment. The world No.1 looked on a different planet against Roger Federer in the semis and he can't lose if he repeats that performance.

First up tomorrow is the women's final and it's difficult to see anything but a 2-0 win for Serena Williams against Angelique Kerber at around 1-2.

I've had a quick look at tonight's card and I'm putting up a goals treble – Dunfermline to score 2+, Nimes to score 2+ (liked by Greg and others) and both to score at Laval v Niort. I'm risking 2pts that will just about wipe out the accumulator losses.

Staying in France and Paris FC have been on my radar simply because they signed ex-Rangers defender Bilel Mohsni on loan from Angers. Mohsni made his debut in a 0-0 draw against Auxerre and with PFC signing a couple of other players they should avoid defeat at struggling Brest.

Last night my only bet was a treble which lost at the first hurdle as Utrecht were surprisingly beaten at lowly Roda.

I’ve looked at this fixture all week and have been having mixed thoughts. Melbourne CIty won 3-1 earlier this week, but watching the highlights it could have been by six or seven. Attack wise they are sensational with the likes of Fornaroli, Novillo and Mooy, but they lack a defensive effort. A couple of weeks ago, Manchester City (their affiliate) signed young midfielder Anthony Caceres from the Mariners and loaned him straight to Melbourne and he started in their 3-1 win against the Phoenix this week. 2 points separate these teams at the top of the A-League so a win for either side will be a huge boost of confidence for the title. Its not a market I usually delve in, but for Melbourne to be this price despite being 2 points behind is something I can’t pass up. DNB ior DC are obviously safer options which are available at best @ 2/1 and EVS @ Various, but I’m going to risk 1 point for interest on the Melbourne side to take all 3 points. The Wanderers are top but were beaten at home to Sydney 2-1, and held to a 0-0 by Adelaide in their last two at home. If Melbourne can seal the leaks at the back, they have the firepower to get a win here and shouldn’t need much more incentive with a top spot and bragging rights the prize for the victory.

Might have a wee point on it myself

    • hamy45gary 8 years ago

Ive also been looking at this game and Im thinking along the same lines. The front 3 of City have scored more goals than the entire WSW team!! Mooy is just a joy to watch and is arguably the best player in the league at the moment with him having the most assists in the league by a country mile. It depends on how there set up with there normal 3-5-2 or will they switch to the 4-4-2 to try and stop WSW. I think it will be a cracker with the 5 tops scores in the league on the pitch at the same time it should produce goals, hopefully all the way of City!

    • old al 8 years ago

Was going to post similar Jordan but you do it far better – worth a go at that price, also gone Melbourne City over 1.5 team goals @ 7/5 – I think it’s going to be very tight or lots of goals as these top of the table clashes tend to be one or the other.

And going to stick my neck out here and take the plunge on Rooney to score anytime at 2.60. Could well be a 94th min penalty but il take it. Derby have looked bad recently where as i can see weve been consistant. Consistantly crap but i think we may just nick it. previous to our one goal defeat rooney had scored 5 in 4 games albeit 2 coming from the penny spot. probably first bet ive placed on us for a long time :S

Melbourne city over 4.5 team corners 4/5- 2.5 points.
City have covered this market in at least their last 5 away matches, and are in decent goal scoring form atm, and have plenty about them going forward, it’s also a chance to go top of the table so IMO opinion they will be on the attack a lot, which should lead to corners.

Apologies for my lack of Burnley/Derby pre-match/team news, its the first I’ve missed I think in approx. 2 years. I hope you had the foresight to bet against Derby, I’ve not looked back through the past weeks posts as I’ve had some health issues to deal with.
After our miserable showing against Birmingham – ( 3step-sons are now the focus of much ribbing from my step-dad ).

This season is seeming a little like deja-vu : Only last season, our wretched form started in Feb. Deep joys, we seem to of improved on that by not winning once in the league this year.

The boss was praising our 2 new signings and on paper, extra attacking threat from a side that’s been shy in front of goal for 2 months seemed the smart move. I fear that it’s unsettled us. Derby’s ” plan A ” – has been found out, bully us on the pitch and you’re likely to get something, sadly we don’t seem to have a ” plan B “.

Purely from the perspective that this FA cup tie against one of the Premiership’s big boys now is meaningless for Derby, I’m inclined to believe Derby will lose it. We’re not gelling on the pitch, the linkage between attack/midfield isn’t there and those in midfield do not seem to know their roles. We commit too much going forward then leave our back 4 exposed because our holding midfielder/midfielders have both joined in the attack because nothing up front was working. Then we get bitten.

When the draw was made, I was chuffed that we had Man U at home, they’ve been in wretched form, barely threaten up front and right now, any top 6 championship side would fancy their chances against them. Sadly, our form has been relegation standard and unless Clements makes big tactical changes, a fresh approach, route 1 grass roots football with the old guard, we’re in for a damn good slap.

What I will bring up though to further confuse us all is Derby have often turned on the taps and had a real go at Man U in the past when we’ve been clear underdogs.
The last time we beat them from a Kris Commons goal at the Ipro, they threw on Carrick , Rooney and Ronaldo for the last 30 mins. Rob Hulse hit the bar in the dieing minutes which would of meant the reverse fixture at Old Trafford would mean they’d need to beat us by 3. Derby had one foot in the door to Wembley in that cup, the reverse fixture saw them beat us 5-2 I think. I remember it so clearly because Man Utd had not conceded in 900 odd minutes according to Alan Hansen ( apart from the 3 we put past them in the cup ). So don’t write us off totally.

Something I will also bring up is the papers: If you believe them, then Van Gaal is 1 game away from his P45. The fans want him gone and so does Mourhino. Mourhino has had his eye on that job since Ferguson left, Man U have appointed everyone and anyone and nothing seems to of worked out, they want the ” special one “. If Man U lose tonight, Mourhino would of already took his parking space before Van Gaal makes it to the post match press conference.
Clements has a very strong bond with Mourhino, with Chelsea and Real Madrid. Maybe, just maybe, the ” special one ” has helped him draw up a battle plan that would see Derby stop the rot and Mourhino get his dream job. It’s a bit snide but stranger things have happened in football.

Tonight, Derby have to vastly improve because low confidence breeds low confidence and that equals bad results.

BTTS should deliver, I expect a response, but not confident on anything else. On the plus side, if we win, we get an extra game to tweak our side, same as if we get a draw – but that would clutter up our fixture list a little too much, so Derby will either want a win or a loss, get the game out the way and concentrate back on the league.

    • andynffc 8 years ago

Derby’s promotion campaign every year are like Christmas decorations… Always come down after Christmas ;-) 25mil spent on overrated prima donnas with real madrids kit man in charge is your problem…trying to buy the league with quite frankly average players on high wages, would probably take two off you Russell and Thorne and maybe Martin. The rest no thanks. Having said all that tonight’s a weird one in that there is no pressure on you(like the league) most would expect Man U to win this. But I wouldn’t be surprised if you beat them or at least took it to a replay as Man U are poor at the moment and create very little. So if you take a chance you never know. If I was pushed I would say a draw 1-1.

You think btts? Ladbrokes doing ManU win btts @4-1. Dropping in and doing a paper bet later.

    • andynffc 8 years ago

I’m not sure if I would back Man U to score 2 with how little they create at the moment. But saying that Burnley and Birmingham scored 3+ past them recently. @4-1 it’s worth a crack isn’t it.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

nathanufton, most people did go against Derby and while I tipped Burnley to win my bet was Burnley draw no bet at just under evens.
Tough to call tonight but Man Utd can’t mess about or it’s game over for Van Gaal.
If you think btts will come in Ladbrokes are doing some moneyback specials in shops if there is btts.

Fancy a couple tonight, firstly in the Bundesliga

    Mainz v Gladbach – NAP Over 2.5MGLs @ 8/11
I was looking at Gladbach to win but Mainz are unbeaten in 3 at home winning 2 so I’m hopefully playing it safer with overs. Despite Mainz drawing 0-0 in their last home game I fancy goals. Gladbach games always produce goals, their last 5 away games have all seen over 3.5 goals so I think 2.5 goals should come in. At a bigger price Gladbach Score & Win or Win & Over 2.5 are both good shouts.

    Nimes v Auxerre – Over 2.5MGLs @9/10
I fancy two bets in this match, firstly overs as a main bet and also Nimes to win. Nimes sit second bottom 3 points off safety but seems to have turned a corner in recent weeks. They’ve won their last 3 games – beating Nancy (1st) 3-4 away and Clermont (3rd) 6-2 in the process, they’ve scored 16 goals in their last 5 games, those games seeing MGs totals of 7, 8, 2, 5 and 4 so I think over 2.5 goals is conservative.

    Overs double pays 2.28/1 – 5 points

    Nimes (11/10), Man Utd (10/11) and Gladbach (17/10) – 1 point treble pays 10.05/1 add Marseille and Dunfermline for 0.5point 5fold @ 26/1 GL!

ON THIS DAY IN 1965: HIBERNIAN’S FAMOUS FIVE, THE FINEST FORWARD LINE IN SCOTTISH FOOTBALL HISTORY, PLAY TOGETHER FOR LAST TIME
(Gordon Smith, Bobby Johnstone, Lawrie Reilly, Eddie Turnbull, Willie Ormond)

Before tiki-taka, before totaal voetbal, before push ‘n’ run, before catenaccio, before joga bonito, there was the Hibernian Famous Five.

Gordon Smith, Bobby Johnstone, Lawrie Reilly, Eddie Turnbull and Willie Ormond rose to prominence as a five-man forward line during Hibs’ post-war glory years in the 1950s, when the Edinburgh club were the main challengers to Glasgow Rangers.

The quintet deployed a form of proto-total football, interchanging positions at will.

Smith (302 goals), Reilly (238 goals), Turnbull (202 goals) and Ormond (189 goals) occupy the top four places on Hibs’ all-time top goalscorers list, with Johnstone in at number seven having scored 100 goals despite making less appearances than his cohorts.

First unleashed as a unit in October 1949, the five scored 28 of Hibs’ 31 goals during a 12-game unbeaten run that took them to the turn of the year.

The myth quickly grew that, when the five played, Hibs did not lose. That wasn’t strictly true, but things were certainly more entertaining when the Famous Five played together.

Hibs won the league in 1951 and 1952, and didn’t finish lower than fifth between 1949 and 1955.

In all, Smith, Johnstone, Reilly, Turnbull and Ormond made 187 appearances together. Sadly all things must pass, and on 29th January 1955 at Easter Road against Clyde, they made their final appearance as a full ensemble.

It was truly the end of a magnificent era.

Tomorrow we could have the perfect tribute to the Famous Five, a place in the League Cup Final without conceding a goal

Guimaraes vs Uniao Madeira, over 2.5 MG’s 43/40 **NAP** Bet365

Guimaraes have scored ten goals in five games but they also conceeded eight in the same period. Three of these games went over including high scoring 3-3 and 3-4 matches against Belenenses and Moreirense respectively. Uniao Madeira have picked up some form going into tonight’s clash having won two on the spin, the last of which was a 3-0 win against Nacional. However two of their biggest defeats this season have come on the road against Academica (3-1) and Pacos de Ferreira (6-0) so all things considered the overs bet has a decent chance of landing.

    Afternoon gents

On a poor run at the moment, all
of the good work In January has been wiped out in what has been a really frustrating 7 days – still time
To turn it around, starting tonight

    Nimes v Auxerre KO 7pm

All isn’t as it seems when you look at the French Ligue 2 table! The leagues form team sit second bottom after an 8 point deduction but looking at Nimes current form, they are playing like title winners! I say title winners because in the last few weeks they have hammered in 10 goals against arguably two of the leagues best teams ( 4-3 away at top of the table Nancy last week) prior to that they dished out 6-2 demolition of third top Cermont!

They welcome an Auxerre side who’s best work is usually done at home( like most teams in this league) Nimes have scored two or more in 6 of their last 7 home games and the form they are in theres every chance they’ll net a few again tonight

There are quite some games I like for team goals across Europe, so will try to keep it simple. All below teams are at home this weekend against weaker opposition.

    Main bet

Hi guys thought i should let you know the curse is back.
Ive been on all of Jordans and Gregs naps which have lost. Ive seen athletico lose at home. I backed galatasary u19 on an 18 game unbeaten streak. Lost of course. Fenerbache threw away their game the other night. Of course i backed feyernord too.
As we speak Al ain are about to end their seven game streak.
I even lost a 1/100 home game in the macau league. Previous encounter 10-0 . My bet saw them draw 1-1!

Incredible stuff really. If i back goals its under WDW brings a loss.
Follow greg brings a loss too.
    Its really strange!!!

    • Jordan 8 years ago

Dom, no offense but I’m fed up of seeing my name in your posts because of a loss. Leave me out of your ‘bad luck’ posts please. Maybe stop betting too.

    • Jordan 8 years ago

Spanish cup game, Turkish U19s, Turkish cup game, Heerenveen had scored two goals in their last five so if that didn’t put doubt in your mind then more fool you, United Arab Emirates team with their top goalscorer not playing because he is about to sign for West Ham, and a team from a country that I couldn’t even pinpoint on a map. Would you like anymore reasons why you shouldn’t back WDW on your games mentioned? I never see a thanks when my bets do win so I don’t think, I should see my name when you’re on my losers. Sorry.

    • dom77 8 years ago

Im not criticising your bets mate. They are really good and should be flying in. I only seem to back the ones that dont win for some reason.

At least half of those games seem utter nonsense to me and I wouldn’t even consider betting on them. Imagine going to work for a few hours just for some Turkish u19 team or some mob from Macau to relieve you of your wages. Insanity

Dom. No offence mate but why don’t you consider stopping. If ur losing all the time you can’t be getting much enjoyment out of it. Surely there is no point throwing money dow the drain

    • dom77 8 years ago

None taken. I still have some funds in the kitty. Its hard to walk away. I might have to take some time out because my luck is ridiculous. There is only really PSG i can rely upon thesedays

    • wasclueless 8 years ago

Last PSG game I had for them > 1.5 TGS in a acca they only managed one against Toulouse – you weren’t on that bet were you dom77 ;) ???

    • dom77 8 years ago

Of course i was. In theory if you only ever did one bet a week PSG -1AH you would make a profit right?

    • punterpounder 8 years ago

in theory you wont win unless the bet does no getting away from reality

    Hello All,

Found this one for tomorrow which looks great odds

    BRESCIA VS LIVORNO

Brescia have not lost at home all season. Livorno has lost 5 straight games on the road including against the bottom 2 teams. Livorno did beat them at home in Sept however their recent form is terrible.

    Brescia win 2.15 NAP

  40. nik 8 years ago

@radu I like Darussafaka +9.5 I think has good chance to come in I’ll be on that if Diamantidis is out.

Football is rotten today for me so lookin for value in basektball.

What you think of Zalgiris plus 11 ? They won solidly against Olimpiakos, defending well .. they have new manager too I think.

@nik , sorry for not response i was busy and didn’t stay on internet GL nice win with darussafaka – now on today matches ;)

Hey guys, this has been a terrible week for me too. Have had it low for a couple of days: small stakes, only 2 bets a day.

Today there are some 4 matches I really like the look of. Doing them as single bets.
    Mönchengladbach over 2.5mgs
    Cercle Brugge over2.5
    Maastricht over 2.5
    Guimaraes over2.5

Thanks to great tipping on the site, it helped quickly research and narrow down the selections.

Cheers Mr. F. and good luck to all punters :)
