FOR the second day running my 1pt Top Treble was a goal short – this time Djurgarden were the culprits as they failed to net at Elfsborg.
Villarreal not to lose and both to score at Helsingborg were correct with Henrik's son Jordan Larsson hitting a double for his dad's side.
My Super Single was void after Sevilla hit a late equaliser at Shakhtar that should see them through to the Final for the third year in a row. As it stands it's favoured to be an all-Spanish showdown with Liverpool needing a repeat of their Anfield heroics against Dortmund to have a chance of overturning a 1-0 deficit.
On Friday Middlesbrough have a big game in the Championship promotion race at Birmingham and should win but of course are a short price. Also they've won on only one of their last 18 to St Andrews and that puts me off backing them.
Jordan's tipped an Eibar goal before 79 minutes at a Sporting Gijon side on the up in La Liga while French runaway champions PSG tackle Rennes.
Augsburg v Cologne's tough to call in the Bundesliga and there is the usual French and Dutch lower-league games Greg and others love to look at for goals.
My Saturday columns are written and I've picked out two Friday trebles – but no Super Single or Bet of the Day.
I don't have time to put up reasoning though as I'm working on the desk tonight. Regarding Eibars corner stats, I’ve not checked any averages for Eibar over the course of the season but having looked at Eibars away games in La Liga in 2016 I did notice that only twice in the last nine have they achieved more than 3 corners on the road. I usually restrict betting in the Austrian second tier to goals bets as it can be a bit flakey for outcomes. A perfect example is FAC who are in poor form but the only point they have taken 7 matches was against the league leaders. They remain the bottom side in the league and having lost at home to Klagenfurt last time out I feel its worth backing against them today. Lustenau are no more than decent but should win at home against them. St Pauli are having a good season in 4th and looking to put pressure on Nurnberg today with a home win. I fancy them to do it against 3rd bottom Munich 1860 who have just 1 win in 15 on the road. Taking draw no bet though because after a poor season Daniel Bierofka was promoted to manager and in his first match they beat Braunschweig which will give them a confidence boost. Mlada Boleslav are in strong form at the moment so going to take a chance on them winning on the road. They are away at Jihlava who have lost 4 of their last 5 and conceded 9 goals over 2 defeats to Boleslav last year.

SUMMARY: Difficult to know what bet to take here, thus unlike me I’ve taken probably the ‘safest’ one, FREIBURG to score over 1.5 goals. Freiburg will go for victory here, and that with them usually means netting at least twice. They’ve been on a tremendous run and have scored aplenty, even in their last away match somehow they managed to net twice after being outplayed throughout game. As for their opponents, Paderborn, well there in a relegation fight, and have found scoring goals at home extremely difficult. Will they play for a draw or look for more! Personally I believe Freiburg will force them to play on the back foot, and I’m hoping Freiburg’s attacking prowess will see them score sooner rather than later!

8/13 on an away win seems extremely tight. ‘Boro showed their nerves last time out by drawing 0-0 at home to Ipswich. Tonight they meet another opponent with little left to play for. However, Birmingham have drawn their last two games and made life difficult at home recently against the other two title contenders. Would not be surprised if this finished 1-1 or even a slender win for the home side. If Birmingham do score, there’s a good chance Donaldson will get it.

Weirdly enough, both sides have something to play for; avoiding relegation + qualifying for Europe. There has been 10 goals in Koln’s last two matches while Augsburg aren’t immune to goalfests of their own.

Sporting Lisbon are hot on the heels of Benfica so they’ll want to ensure they win, and win well tonight with not many games left. The recent H2H stats don’t boast too well for Benfica but they’re scoring for fun at home averaging just over 3 per game – couple this with Guimaraes conceding an average of 2 away from home gives me confidence Benfica will get at least 2 goals tonight.
Braga have a very good record indeed at the Municipal having lost there only once this season and that was to the league leaders, so you can’t knock them for that. Although this game is effectively for nothing, I still think they’ll want to keep that home record intact – having not lost there since November (in the league). They average 2 goals per game at the Municipal and Setubal concede just under 2 per game away from home.

Thinking of putting large stake on all the norweigen tippeligaen games over 1.5 mg. I did over 2.5 last week and lost by 1 goal.
