Latest standings: Danny £243.95 (6), David £1021.50 (10)

IT was an interesting day in the head-to-head tipster contest with Danny Taylor taking a massive gamble on Brazilians Paulista in a bid to keep pace with David Smith.

Danny, who lives in Perth, Australia, lumped £500 on them at 10-11 and was gutted as they were held 0-0 to an Oeste side that finished with nine men.

That means after placing six bets he’s left with £243.95 and trails Airdrie’s David by nearly £800.

It was an up and down day for David who has now placed 10 bets. Four of them provided him with winners yesterday – singles on Japan, Bahrain and Belgium and a double on Iran and UAE.

And overnight he had a loser on Sao Paulo and Mexico £50 double but won £68.18 for a £50 single on Central Coast Mariners. David started the day on £1043.94 and is now on £1021.51 – so is still in profit.

Danny’s up against it now and has gone all in with a Friday night fourfold – Braunschweig, Monaco, Kaiserslautern and Watford. If they all win he’ll have £2058.59 to play with over the weekend – but if one team lets him down it’s all over.

Steve Myers won the first spot prize of the tournament in the “win more than Danny challenge”. He landed a £300 double that paid £4940 thanks to Cesc Fabregas to score for Spain and Russia to win 2-0 in Iceland. His other £300 bet was a loser.

Guido, Flyboivince and Shakhtar were others who made good profits but it’s Steve who wins a £10 bet with Ladbrokes.

Danny and David Both started with a mythical £1,000 pot and go head-to-head against each other until midnight on Sunday to see who can win the most money.

I posted up the rules previously but just to make sure everything is in order and easy to follow I’ve re-capped them below again.

  • All players will start their games with a mythical £1,000 betting fund and you can stake from £50 to £1,000 on any football bet provided Ladbrokes have priced it up.
  • Stakes have to be quoted as do all prices and they have to be Ladbrokes‘ odds. If you’re backing an accumulator please provide the individual odds as well the combined odds. Perms are not allowed. In-running bets are not allowed. And bets must only be on football.
  • You can bet on any football market provided by Ladbrokes but winnings won’t be allocated if no price is quoted. All tips must be posted before the start of the relevant event, for example by 2.59pm for a 3pm kick-off.
  • Each person must over the course of the week-long contest must place a minimum of 20 bets so the £1,000 stake is utilised. This is to prevent a contestant sitting on his pot. Minimum take £50.
  • Single or accumulated odds must be 1-4 or above.
  • You cannot copy exactly the same bet as your opponent. You can however include the same bet in an accumulator that includes at least one different selection.
  • The winner will be the person who has accumulated most winnings, including stakes, by the deadline for the tie. But if one of the players loses his £1000 pot before the deadline his opponent will be declared the winner. Winnings can be staked so if your pot increases above £1,000 you have that money to play with. Stakes will be included in winning bets.
  • In the unlikely event of a draw in any of the tipping head to heads there will be a tiebreak contest to decide the winner.
  • All bets must have been settled by the close of the competition, i.e. by 23:59 on the Sunday evening otherwise the bet will be declared void.
  • In the event of any disputes Mr Fixit’s decision will be declare void.

Although there are prizes up for grabs please remember this is also a bit of fun.

Good luck Danny but I would have kept the money until the weekend. I would have put on 4 x £60 singles on goalscorers at around 14/1 – 25/1 mark and hope you hit one.

David, you’re right you have done 9 but I haven’t checked your overnight double, Sao Paulo and Mexico. I’ll update shortly.

  5. Luke 5 years ago

Danny couldn’t have done that Chris as needs to place minimum 20 bets throughout the week. So if he wins this bet tomorrow, he will have to place minimum 13 bets Saturday

    • Danny 5 years ago

thats it Luke if somehow my luck were too change I need to do about 7 bets on saturday then 6 on sunday

      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Luke, Danny could have done what Chris said because if he had won one he could have gone back in and bet with his winnings. Remember contest doesn’t close until midnight on Sunday.

no got much to say formyself today having gone all in on friday with the remaining money on a 4 fold will either be a master stroke or a comfy weekend for you David most probably being through your aswell trying to win as much as you can sure I saw a comment about most winnings wins a prize

Danny, we were going to give a prize for most winnings but withdrew it after comments from some people saying it was unfair because some weeks would be better than others. I can understand that. However, we’ll note who wins most and maybe offer him something.

      • Milesey 5 years ago

Don’t be sexist, the him might turn out to be a her !

  7. Chris Guy 5 years ago

Yes Luke he could easily do that if he puts the bets on for Saturday early kick offs atnd 3pm kick offs. If he has one winner his balance would be around £1400 and he only needs to place a further 9 bets on Saturday evening and all day Sunday. Anyway good luck to both Danny and Dave.

  8. Chris Guy 5 years ago

Paul quick question. Danny have you his bets for Friday so when its my week can I give you like say 10 bets to begin with on the Monday covering any days of the week?

Chris, firstly quit the slanging match with Milesey. Let it go. Secondly, you can send your bet in whenever you want when your contest opens.

    BET 9 was murder 2 x 0-0 draws

though thankfully not as costly as danny’s 0-0

twice ive picked brazilian teams twice ive lost
remind me not to go near them again

its been that kind of week when you have had to pick
games you know bugger all about

or games that are not fully competitive

thats how the bookies make their cash by idiots like me betting on teams or players or leagues you know sod all about

thanksfully ive kept stakes small and am about even

i was going to put more on the aussie game this morning but danny talked me out of it thinking they had a few on international duty

glad to see things are a bit calmer today paul

David, the best thing is you’re playing with mythical money – and anyway you’re in profit. It’s a challenge for someone to have £1000 to play with, basically risk free, and see what they come up. But what you’ve proved is that it doesn’t matter what you stake you can still be let down by big favourites.

  14. Chris Guy 5 years ago

Messi not Nessi. He’s too busy under water

    • Milesey 5 years ago

OMG you still going on, your such a cry baby, you really are. give it up and let it go, it’s baffle now !

  15. Chris Guy 5 years ago

Milesey you have a cheek to talk you are always spitting the dummy out. I wasn’t mentioning anything about it until Paul made a comment directed to me whereas in actual fact it should have been directed to you.

  16. Jonathan Grieve 5 years ago

Hahaha, was just a matter of time before this uneasy truce was broken

Chris, just trying to cool things down. Milesey had a couple of yellow cards last night and I made my feelings clear so let’s quit the arguing. Heaven help us if the two of you meet later in the contest.

  18. Chris Guy 5 years ago

Milesey I’m merely responding to a comment made on the same thread to Mr Fixit. I wasn’t even speaking to you I was speaking about you. No need for you to get involved. Sorry if your having difficulties understand this.

  19. Chris Guy 5 years ago

Anyway onwards and upwards with the competition.

  20. Chris Guy 5 years ago

Have a nice day Milesey and most importantly good luck Danny and David. Are you betting on anything tonight David. Sorry about all the carry on in your thread guys. I’m just going to ignore the troll from now on.

  21. Chris Guy 5 years ago

Nice to see you have decided to remove Mileseys derogotary and abusive comments. Really no need for it on this site. Wouldn’t it be funny Paul if Danny pulled it out the bag.

Chris, don’t wind him up any more. If you two guys meet it will be explosive, maybe on Sky Sports or if not BBC ALBA. I wish Danny all the best but I can’t take sides on any of the games.

  22. Seamus 5 years ago

Risky fourfold Danny but understand the logic. Good luck to the pair if you.
