Latest standings (settled bets in brackets): Chris £516.66 (7), Cammy £600 (6)

BOTH players have lost about half their pot but a place in the last eight is still anyone’s for the taking.

Chris Guy of Alexandria put up three bets yesterday and landed one winner thanks to an each-way bet on Mario Mandzukic to score first for Bayern Munich.

Cammy McDonald of Livingston staked £350 on four bets but failed to find a winner. So going into day three Cammy leads Chris by nearly £100.

Chris has fired in quickly with three bets totalling £266 – £100 on Barca to win by one, £100 on Galatasaray to win by one and a £66 double that would pay a whopping £1119.89.

And Cammy has £50 treble on both teams to score at Leeds, Milan and Charleroi and a £50 double on most second half goals at Galatasaray and Milan.

I’d remind players to post bets each day under the new thread that will be created after midnight. Stakes and Ladbrokes price must be included and if possible potential winnings. Also number your bets if you can as it makes it easier to keep rack of them.

We need full names for this contest so anyone whose full name isn’t listed below could you please send it as a comment.

I posted up the rules previously but just to make sure everything is in order and easy to follow I’ve re-capped them below again.

  • All players will start their games with a mythical £1,000 betting fund and you can stake from £50 to £1,000 on any football bet provided Ladbrokes have priced it up.
  • Stakes have to be quoted as do all prices and they have to be Ladbrokes‘ odds. If you’re backing an accumulator please provide the individual odds as well the combined odds. Perms are not allowed. In-running bets are not allowed. And bets must only be on football.
  • You can bet on any football market provided by Ladbrokes but winnings won’t be allocated if no price is quoted. All tips must be posted before the start of the relevant event, for example by 2.59pm for a 3pm kick-off.
  • Each person must over the course of the week-long contest must place a minimum of 20 bets so the £1,000 stake is utilised. This is to prevent a contestant sitting on his pot. Minimum take £50.
  • Single or accumulated odds must be 1-4 or above.
  • You cannot copy exactly the same bet as your opponent. You can however include the same bet in an accumulator that includes at least one different selection. A bet can’t be cancelled once it’s posted unless part or all of the bet is a non-runner, for example a first-scorer pick doesn’t start or one game in an acumulator is postponed.
  • The winner will be the person who has accumulated most winnings, including stakes, by the deadline for the tie. But if one of the players loses his £1000 pot before the deadline his opponent will be declared the winner. Winnings can be staked so if your pot increases above £1,000 you have that money to play with. Stakes will be included in winning bets.
  • In the unlikely event of a draw in any of the tipping head to heads there will be a tiebreak contest to decide the winner.
  • All bets must have been settled by the close of the competition, i.e. by 23:59 on the Sunday evening otherwise the bet will be declared void.
  • In the event of any disputes Mr Fixit’s decision will be declare void.

Although there are prizes up for grabs please remember this is also a bit of fun.

Cammy, as you know I’ve been all over Barnsley recently but was aware of Wolves’ improvement. United’s clean sheet surprised me too but it adds strength to the belief McNamara’s a useful appointment for United.

Surprised Galatasaray are as big a price as they are.

Schalke have only won once in the last 14 and their manager is banging on about his team having a curse on them – lost the plot? They currently sit 9th place in the league nearly 30 points off the pace.

No-one ever fancies going to Turkey and with Galatasaray having Drogba and Sneijder in their ranks aswell as a 6 point lead at the top of the Turkish league, I can’t see past a home win. 5/4 with Coral to win.

Dave, it’s a good price but bookies probably giving German football respect.

  6. Dave Black 5 years ago

True. I’m even tempted by -1 on Galatasaray. Schalke were hammered 4-0 away to Bayern which I can understand but they also lost 2-1 at home to bottom side Greuther Furth (who had only won once in the previous 18 league matches.

Seem to be all over the place just now.

I agree on paper Galatasaray should win but its true that a cup competition can be a welcome distraction for some sides.

With everbody highlighting Schalke’s recent poor league form and the fact Galatasaray are sitting top of theres, Galatasaray will have much more pressure on them than they will be used to (especially in a champions league last 16 match) Whereas Schalke will be relaxed and treating it as a bonus. Schalke do have quality players and are they are unbeaten away from home in the champions league this season. The Bundeliga is also generally regarded as a better standard than the Turkish league so (I feel) if Schalke can go there and keep it tight first 25 mins the home fans (who are mental) will encourage there side to really take the game to there opponents which will play into Schalke’s hands, allowing them to soak up the pressure and play on the counter.

You can be certain the way my predictions have gone this week that now i’ve said this Galatasaray will be 2-0 up in 10 mins!

Cammy, I know what you’re saying and it’s one reason why people think Gala are a big price. The German league is a better standard but teams such as Greuther Furth and Augsburg are not and Schalke haven’t been able to beat them recently. My worry is their boss Keller has been thrown in at the deep end and isn’t ready and also Gala have been boosted by Drogba and Sneijder arriving and you can’t expect them to feel the pressure after the big games they’ve played in.
