ON a busy Saturday it turns out that I only have one value tip for the afternoon’s racing which is unusual but the last time this happened the horse bolted up so hopefully that’s a good sign.

My tip comes in the 3.25pm at Ascot in the shape of BLUE LAUREATE. This former French-trained horse has been with Ian Williams for two runs now and was stepped up significantly in trip last time.

That was a tricky three runner race where he finished 2nd but the interesting thing for me was that the longer trip was no problem. Ian Williams will have him prepped for this race with decent prize money on offer and I think he is one who is a likely improver and looks good each way value. Pat Cosgrave knows Ascot well and will be a useful jockey to have on board too.

I will be back later today with some tips for tonight’s card at Ayr where I have already spotted a few value bets.
