FOR me and Andy Murray the tennis is over and it’s back to concentrating on the football.
Britain’s Davis Cup squad will be guests at the Celtic v Rangers game on Saturday across the road from where they play next week’s semi-final against Argentina.
But surely Murray won’t be there – he’s a Hibs fan. And his brother Jamie will be otherwise engaged after reaching the Final of the men’s doubles at the US Open with Bruno Soares.
I’ve also turned down a ticket in favour of watching another derby – the lesser known but equally competitive Clydebank-Yoker clash.
That’s all for Saturday and anyone lumping on Celtic beware Leigh Griffiths is now regarded as a serious doubt for the game.
It’s been a quiet few days but there’s plenty to look at on Friday. I fancy Reading to beat Ipswich in the Championship and big guns such as PSG at home to St Etienne and Bayern Munich at Schalke are in action too.
For goal lovers there is the Jupiler League games for starters and I’m sure Greg and others will post tips.
I’m taking Reading as the Super Single. They’ve started the season well under Jaap Stam, are unbeaten and look mean in defence.
Ipswich have suffered from the loss of last season’s top scorer Daryl Murphy and haven’t netted on the road in two games at Wolves and Brentford.
Form and h2h is on Reading’s side having won eight of the last 10 meetings between the sides and last season won this fixture 5-1.
My Top Treble is fairly straightforward and I’m going with PSG and Bayern – both should win by at least two but in the aftermath of the internationals I’m going with wins.
Add Dundalk at UCD in the last eight of the FAI Cup. Dundalk could rest players ahead of their Europa League start next week but whatever side they put out should be good enough to beat the First Division side.
