Murray_USOpen

ANDY MURRAY is back in US Open action tonight looking for less of a sweat than the previous round.

The Scot almost came a cropper against Adrian Mannarino, having to fight back from two sets down, and blocking his path to the last 16 is world No.30 Thomaz Bellucci.

The Brazilian won their only previous meeting back in 2011 but is a massive 13-1 (marathonbet) to repeat the feat. Murray has dropped at least a set in both his matches so far and over 3.5 sets in this one pays 11-5 at Paddy Power.

Other huge underdogs aiming to stage an upset today include 14-1 shot Philipp Kohlschreiber against Roger Federer and 15-1 chance Ruben Bemelmans versus French Open champ Stan Wawrinka.

British women's No.2 Jo Konta is through to round three of a Slam for the first time and bids to set another milestone when she faces Germany's Andrea Petkovic. Konta is 13-8 at William Hill while 18th seed Petkovic is 8-13 at Marathonbet.

Other sporting highlights on a packed Saturday of action include the second cricket ODI between England and Australia and stage 14 of cycling's Tour of Spain. Post your tips and thoughts here and good luck with your bets.

Gotta get on Konta again today, so mentally strong and could challenge anybody based on her last 2 performances

  3. Ad 9 years ago

I believe Konta spoke of being completely exhausted after what was the longest ever match at U.S. open.

  4. Ad 9 years ago

Also, FABIO! wasn’t awake to back him from 2-0 down so I’ll have to settle for the 3/1 as tipped on here two days ago :) !
And telling of exhausted, tonics as dead at the end of his epic tussle with Hewitt. I’d be amazed to see him get passed gasquet, unless he somehow powers through in 3. Retirement likely

  5. Ad 9 years ago

I’ve only just realised how close i was to landing that 85/1 glory 4-fold! Hewitt served for it but lost, while Paire, keys and Fabio all did the business. Next time eh

MATT BARKLEY gets traded to ARIZONA CARDINALS
so this bet must be good now

PHILADELPHIA — It isn’t easy to compete with a phenomenon.

Matt Barkley learned that firsthand this summer. When the Philadelphia Eagles signed Tim Tebow to compete with Barkley for their third quarterback job, the outcome seemed to be a foregone conclusion.

On one side was Barkley, a 2013 fourth-round pick who had thrown a total of 50 passes in his two-year career with the Eagles. Barkley was a good college quarterback at USC, and he developed a good feel for coach Chip Kelly’s offense.

On the other side was Tebow, a legitimate phenomenon off the field as well as on it. The Heisman Trophy winner and former first-round draft pick had been out of the NFL for two seasons, but he still has a loyal contingent of fans who follow his every move.

But there’s more to it than that. Kelly was intrigued by what Tebow might do in his offense. He showed that by running read-option plays in preseason games with Tebow and not with the other quarterbacks. And he showed it by having Tebow line up to attempt a pair of two-point conversions in the Eagles’ game against Green Bay.

Neither attempt was successful, but that served as an example of the phenomenon. With Tebow, coaches imagine new ways to take advantage of his considerable skills.

That has been both a help and a hindrance during Tebow’s career. It is what got him the opportunities he had with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. But it also led to his eventual departure from those teams.

In Denver, Tebow won a playoff game after his second season, only to be replaced by Peyton Manning within months. In New York, Tebow was used as a novelty act, running a special set of plays in relief of starting quarterback Mark Sanchez.

The difference with Kelly is that he didn’t take any major risks in acquiring Tebow. He simply signed him to a one-year contract and allowed him to compete for the No. 3 quarterback job. Kelly traded for Sam Bradford to be the Eagles’ starting quarterback.

Kelly has said many times that he structures his offense around what his quarterback does best. So instead of trying to fit Tebow into a package of novelty plays, Kelly will do what he always does: devise an offensive approach that takes advantage of Tebow’s skills without straying too far from Kelly’s core principles.

That combination looked pretty promising Thursday night. Tebow evaded the Jets’ pass rush and turned likely sacks into positive plays — a 17-yard gain here, a 9-yard touchdown pass there. He fired a 45-yard pass to Freddie Martino, then found the wide receiver in the end zone after a play broke down.

With the Eagles, Tebow has a chance to reach his ceiling without the pressure to do so right away. Barkley had likely reached his. He was a smart, solid quarterback able to come in and run the offense if the starter got hurt.

Tebow could be that, but he could also be much more. Bradford will start for the Eagles. Sanchez will be the No. 2 QB. Meanwhile, Tebow can continue to hone the throwing motion he developed with coach Tom House while getting more comfortable in Kelly’s offense.

Maybe he’ll remain the No. 3 quarterback. If so, Kelly gave up nothing by replacing Barkley with Tebow.

But if it all comes together for Tebow in Kelly’s offense, maybe Kelly has something special on his hands. Maybe he’ll have a real phenomenon.

    Basketball (repost)

    Eurobasket 2015 Outright winner

    * France @ 9/4

Been waiting on news to see if both Gasol brothers were in the final Spanish squad before making my decision on this and only pau is in the final squad. Just a 2 horse race this competition between France and Spain in my opinion you could possibly consider serbia as dark horses but they are a team full of bigs and lack any playmakers. The French have the best all round team in this completion led by Tony Parker and have Nicolas Batum of the Blazers who I think might get MVP , Boris Diaw , Rudy Gobert, Evan Fournier and other NBA players. The amount of players the French have playing at the top level in my opinion gives them the edge over the Spanish who apart from Gasol and Mirotic (i feel is a poor player anyway) are Spanish domestic league players. It is also worth noting when when these two went h2h at the world championships last year France defeated Spain in a game where they were without Tony Parker and the Spanish were at full strength will both gasol brothers and Ibaka playing. Since the last eurobasket in 2013 France have only lost one game and are a strong bet here.

Johnb what section it the Tebow bet listed under?

  18. Jordan 9 years ago

Hate to break it to you but its just Oddschecker being slow. Market isn’t even on Ladbrokes. Searched for an hour last night.

  19. Picksix 9 years ago

  20. Jordan 9 years ago

JohnB not sure when you posted that but I searched Ladbrokes thoroughly for that Tebow bet, even mentioned to the chief around midnight that he could be in the NFL, but it wasn’t anywhere and couldn’t place a bet through oddschecker either.

  21. Jordan 9 years ago

That’s what I mean Picksix, just them being slow. Reckon they took it off more or less after the Barkley trade was announced as it definitely wasn’t there late last night. Not sure when John posted his write up though.

  22. Picksix 9 years ago

  23. Jordan 9 years ago

Picksix he was 6/1 to start a game for the Eagles this season earlier this week. Had a hunch deep down that he’d be on the roster but the price was putting me off. 6/1 he was to start a game for the Eagles this season…

  24. Johnb 9 years ago

Jordan yes I went in Ladbrokes just after I posted to be told that betting stopped yesterday after news broke

Still plenty of money to be made in NFL especially team total points for the season, which I will be posting what I think is 2 good bets

Pass Yards – Flacco vs Culter – Flacco @ 4/5

  28. Ellis 9 years ago

    Ad,

I hope tomic doesn’t retire!, retirements are the bane of my life and my local bookies is offering 1/3 on Gasquet which I’ll be doubling with troicki. I’ve seen Gasquet 2/9 everywhere else!

  29. Picksix 9 years ago

Yeh that’s a crazy price mate , ladbrokes seem to have a lot of NFL specials too so I’m going to have a browse when I got time. Flacco should surely have more passing yard than cutler although the Ravens do mix it up a lot and like keeping it on the ground too

  30. Jordan 9 years ago

You’re not wrong mate but I just think over the 16 games the Ravens are bound to have a better record and more often than not it’s down to Flacco. Forsett can run it but good at catching out the backfield, so is Forte but at the end of the day it’s still Cutler.

Think it’s crazy all the RGIII stuff going on. One amazing rookie season and a couple years on and there’s talk of his career being over. NFL = Not For Long haha

  31. Picksix 9 years ago

Yeh it is cutler lol gotta think how many of those passes are going to be incomplete and I imagine a lot. I wonder if there’s an interception total ?
Hahaa I know mate it’s crazy think the injurys have just ruined his career tbh

Cutler is a bottle job, don’t be surprised if he even gets benched this season. Marshall has gone, Rookie first rounder Kevin White out for season, feel sorry for Alshon Jeffery. Bears are rank awful, they will finish 4th in the North and get a top 10 pick next year.

Not sure who they play in week 1, but I think the Bears will win that one ;)

  38. Jordan 9 years ago

For Martin who asked if I could put any MLS tips up on the other sports thread as his phone plays up when more than 200 comments on the football thread.

    MLS

Had a look at a few previews for the MLS. NE are without Jermaine Jones who is with the US squad although has been injured for the last couple of months. Orlando should struggle to find any attacking threat whatsoever with Larin and Kaka on international duty. Between them they have 20 goals, with the rest of the team totaling 9.

Montreal are missing a few players but have all of their attack at the helm in Drogba, Piatti, Oduro, McInerney and Romero. Chicago is without their most recent threat in front of goal David Accam, who is with the Ghana side, they do have Igboananike however so still have a potential goal threat.

Seattle might just be in luck with Clint Dempsey supposedly being available to play. Martins and Dempsey together are a lethal combination and haven’t played as a pair since the 14th June so this is a massive boost. Toronto will be without Altidore who scored twice in the US comeback against Peru last night, with Michael Bradley purposely not being in the squad so he could play for Toronto. Giovinco should also start as he hasn’t been called up to the Italy squad (crazy when he’s probably the best in form Italian in the world right now).

New England Revolution Over 1.5 Team Goals – 12:30AM
Seattle Sounders Over 1.5 Team Goals – 3:00AM

    Double just shy of 9/5 @ WillHill (1.75/1) – 2.5 points

    New England -1
    Seattle & BTTS

    Shade over 7/1 @ WillHill (7.05/1) – 0.5 a point

All MLS home teams to score 2 goals might be worth a £ or two. Pays just over 10/1 @ Willhill (10.27/1) but might get better elsewhere. Gonna have another fiver so 3.5 points out in total. Good luck if you take any picks.

  48. BigB 9 years ago

Not sure if anyone is following the BYU game but Taysom Hill has just exited the game to get checked out by the medical staff, he suffered a broken leg last season and was out of the season after 4 / 5 games. If he is ruled out, I would probably lump it on Nebraska to win. Don’t think the Cougars has any experienced QB to step up. Tanner won co-MVP with Jameis Wintson 2 and a half years ago at the Nike regionals before he went on to serve a mission, so he will probably too rusty to overcome a strong Nebraska defense.

Just some thoughts for anyone who might fancy having a dabble in the college football :)

  49. Martin k 9 years ago

Cheers for that Jordan. I only follow yours and John B from the racing thread and last month combined was just under 80 pts. Still gutted I missed the Rooney tip. Hopefully we get a good result on the MLS.

  50. BigB 9 years ago

Taysom is coming back into the game, I will advise anyone to leave the Cougars game alone. But Tanner looks gooooood in his 4 plays! Exciting times at the Y!

  51. Jordan 9 years ago

BigB did you post on here last season? Sounds like you know your stuff about ‘football’. Good stuff mate. Think we could have a good bunch on the NFL this season. I was thinking about putting a point on Ezekiel Elliott to win the Heisman.

Martin no worries bud, fingers crossed.

    Hi Jordan,

I only discovered this site about a month or 2 ago. I have been betting on the NFL for probably 3 years on and off and been following the college football for a fair while. I like to think that I talk sense when talking about football, I play for the Bournemouth Uni as well so as sad as it sounds, I can talk football all night haha. I have read some of your comments about the NFL and I sure will keep an eye out on your tips when the season starts!

EE is a good shout for the Heisman and he is the early front runner, with the QB situation at Ohio State, they might lean on him a fair bit although I would say that if JT Barrett gets the nod over Cardale Jones, that could maybe hurt EE’s chances given JT can is more of a dual threat QB compared to Cardale Jones. A few others that I think might be in with a shout are Dak Prescott (Missi State) Derrick Henry (Bama), Connor Cook (Mich State) and even Taysom if you are an optimist!

  54. Picksix 9 years ago

College football is a goldmine as much as the NFL is, it’s tougher at thestart of the season to predict though in my opinion

Nothing im tipping but I’m having a bet on Alabama to beat the spread -11 @ 10/11 against wisconsin, looks a good bet but as I said I’m wary of college football at the start off the season so just a half stakes bet

  55. BigB 9 years ago

Picksix, I am glad you said that, I have a bit of money on Bama to cover already, so fingers crossed!

  56. Picksix 9 years ago

Mr f that sounds good to me that it will have its own thread

Big b they should be too strong for them , what’s your thoughts on Michigan might be a team to bet against the first few weeks I feel , Jim harbaugh has a bit to mop up at Michigan to get then going I feel, although I think they may come strong sooner or later just not atm

  57. BigB 9 years ago

    Hi Picksix,

I would definitely agree with your view on last year being an absolute mess for the Wolverines. However, I don’t know if I am prepared to bet against Jim Harbaugh, he has proven himself during his time in Stanford albeit with help with Andrew luck in his 11-1 season. He is a player’s coach so I don’t think he will have any problem motivating and getting the Wolverines on his side. It just depends on how quickly the boys can learn the scheme. I wouldn’t look too much into the Utes game given the Utes are A LOT stronger than many people give them credit for. The Wolverines have Oregon State and UNLV coming, both of whom whilst not top class, can still be troublesome to play against.

Its a bit of an inconclusive conclusion that I have reached as you might have noticed, so chances are, I will probably stay away from the Michigan team and see how they pans out haha.

  58. Jordan 9 years ago

I was looking at the Alabama spread last night Tyler. Thought about taking Baylor on a small interest last night but left it. They only started stepping up in the second half. Ohio playing tomorrow so I’m going to see what Elliott is like. Think their starting end Bosa is suspended though and he’s being touted as a top pick in next years draft.

  59. Jordan 9 years ago

Excellent news Mr F! Be nice and easy to find the sports you’re looking for.

  60. Jordan 9 years ago

BigB I bet against and for Jim Harbaugh last season and it went against me each time. 4th and goal at home to the Rams, clock below 10, Kapernick sneak, enough said hahaha

  61. Picksix 9 years ago

Big b noticed u said u play for bournmouth uni if I wasnt 5’10 and 9 and a half stone I would be playing too i guess I would only make it as a safety though haha

Jordan its the only spread wich stands out to me mate but I haven’t had a deep look into the rest of the fixtures really , I like the Arizona and Aggies games to go over the total too it should be a shootout between them both . Game starts in half hour I don’t think it’s one too be missed

    • BigB 9 years ago

Picksix, its funny you said you are 5″10 and 9 and a half stone, I am around 5″10 and about 10 and a half / 11 stone myself! And yes, haha I play corner / safety and got Defensive rookie MVP last season haha, so you should definitely at least give it a go pal! You know the game and that’s already a step ahead than most!

  62. BigB 9 years ago

Jordan, pretty sure Bosa is suspended for like 2 games or maybe more. And yeah, the boy can play, he was pretty good in the semi final game against Bama last season! I remember that game well haha, had money on the 49ers and I remember shouting at the computer the play before the sneak when they didn’t give it to Big Frank haha! Are you watching the BYU game Jordan?

  63. Jordan 9 years ago

Tyler by the looks of the spread and total you’re probably right but I’ve got my bets on for tonight ;) IS that Johnny Manziels team? If they put us together we’d be triplets boys haha, only football they play over here is flag. I’d make a mean duel threat QB haha

  64. Jordan 9 years ago

BigB I’m not mate, just about to put that game Tyler suggested.

  65. BigB 9 years ago

HOLY FAAAAAAK haha YESSSS! Come on BYU! Last play of the game, hail mary, just been ruled a TD waiting for review confirmation!
As early as this is, I can see why Tanner Mangum was co-MVP with Jameis Winston! The kid can flat out play! Man, that was too exciting!!

  66. Picksix 9 years ago

Jordan Yeh it’s manziels old team that guy made me so much money when he played for them they only failed to cover the spread a couple times that’s why I can’t hate on the guy

  67. Picksix 9 years ago

Jordan probably a few stone light to be a qb haha it’s hard to believe but the small guys like wilson and brees weigh around 15 stone wich is crazy seeing As though they look like twigs compared to everyone else on the field

  68. Jordan 9 years ago

Bugger off! Manziel must weigh about 8 stone wet through haha

  69. Picksix 9 years ago

Haha hard to believe I know but he’s probably got a couple stone on us buddy

  70. Jordan 9 years ago

I’ve just checked, according to Google he weighs more than Wilson and 3 lbs lighter than Mariota haha, only 6ft too.

  71. Jordan 9 years ago

That Garrett for the Aggies has some speed off the line! Tackle doesn’t know what day it is.

  72. Picksix 9 years ago

I wouldn’t have thought he would weigh more than willson , I know mate looks a good player u seeing this QB coming on for the agies they say he hasn’t ever lost a football game
