JAPAN have been well backed with Coral to cause their second shock of the 2015 Rugby World Cup when they face Scotland this afternoon.

Japan were 70-1 to beat South Africa on Saturday in one of the biggest sporting upsets ever and are now available at 11-2 (from 9-1) with the firm going into their clash with Scotland at the Kingsholm Stadium.

In the outright betting for the tournament New Zealand remain favourites at 11-10, England are second best at 7-2 while Australia can be backed at 7-1.

Coral's John Hill said: “Japan's victory over South Africa has to go down as one of the biggest upsets across all sports over the last couple of decades. Barely any punters gave the underdogs a chance against the Springboks, however, they defied their huge odds to defeat the two-time world champions.

“Punters now believe that win was not just a flash in the pan for Japan as we've seen a huge gamble on them beating Scotland where their odds have come crashing down due to the weight of support behind them.”

Rugby World Cup outright odds

11-10 New Zealand, 7-2 England, 7-1 Australia, 15-2 Ireland, 8 South Africa, 12 France, 33 Wales, 50 Argentina, 100 Scotland, 250 Bar.

Scotland v Japan

1-8 Scotland, 11-2 Japan, 40-1 Draw

Australia v Fiji

1-16 Australia, 11-1 Fiji, 33-1 Draw

France v Romania

1-100 France, 25 Romania, 50 Draw

    Japan +21.5 points
    Fiji + 31.5 points

Double pays out at just over evens.

Think both games will be fairly evenly matched. There is a slight concern that Scotland and Australia will both be fresh however I think that the fact both Japan and Fiji already have their 1st games under their belts ( both with impressive performances) will be a plus for them. Now and again a bet comes along and it just screams at me to lump on! Whilst I haven’t decided on a steak yet, this is certainly one of them!!

    • ADC 9 years ago

Jonhom, I think it’s not a bad looking bet but there is no way these games are evenly matched. If you lump on I think you’ll have a sweat for it. I think Fiji especially could be on the end of a tanking today.

Japan +17 hanicap evens, i am more than willing to lose 100 on this bet

Australia are a much better attacking side than England.
And they play differently too; they can cause significant problems for Fiji – especially with inside balls off Wallabies fly-half Bernard Foley. England’s playmakers very rarely shifted the point of attack against Fiji, and to be honest that score line flattered them.

It was all very much sideline-to-sideline movement with no real testing of Fiji’s inside shoulder defence against runners cutting back on the angle of play.
The Wallabies are masters of shifting the point of attack to inside runners such as Israel Folau and Adam Ashley-Cooper. It’s also a tactic Fiji, historically, has never really coped with all that well.

Australia -24.5 for me @ 5/6 – as the Aussies need a four-try bonus point to keep pace with fellow Pool A quarterfinal aspirants England and Wales who have already secured five points each.

Any thoughts on some value with this at Ladbrokes ?

    £/€25 IN-PLAY OFFER
Tottenham v Arsenal (90 mins only) – Place a pre-match bet and an in-play bet. If the in-play bet loses, we’ll refund that stake up to the same value as the pre-match bet.

    It’s a great offer Brian, but it’s not rugby….

Thanks Lyall for that extremely valuable input, but you’ll find that this is NOT a Rugby only thread ???

Another pretty dismal day for offence in the mlb. I think only 10 of the 30 teams managed to go over on their hits last night.

I too had a ruler rapped across the knuckles for making the same comment by Mr F. I am sure it was meant that 99% of football posts go on Mr F’s Top Tips Page. I fancy over 2.5 match goals in the Spurs game & Japan with Corals plus 17 points. Good luck Guys.

Dallas aquire Mått Cassel in a trade from the bills. You heard it here first on Sunday :)

    • Jordan 9 years ago

You did indeed chief. Probably 0.05% more chance of getting to the playoffs now :)

I’m with Brian on this one 100%. Scotland -12 and Australia -23 for me at roughly 6/4. I am tempted to through in France -30 as their virtual second string should dispose of Romania.

Another huge standout bet for me is highest scoring half 2nd in the Aus v Fiji match. The last 25 mins of the England match on Saturday Fiji looked dead on their feet. They’ve made minimal changes and I think that they will haemorrhage points in the second half tonight.

Japan +17 is about right on the handicaps and is absolutely no way a shoe in/great bet.

  10. Hellobad 9 years ago

I’m on Japan +17 points to at evens.

  11. Humble tipper 9 years ago

Adc i agree fiji will more than likely get a tonking today but i can’t see scotland beating japan by 17 points or more. It’s amazing what confidence can do in sport even when you. lol i will be sweating

  12. Johnb 9 years ago

Anyone thinking about Japan, Which quite a few people are then beware Japan will still be feeling the effects of what was a hard physical match against South Africa

It’s not the usual 7 days between test matches, its 4 days
Scotland are well rested mentally & Physically unlike Japan who will also be forced into making changes

Since Scotland first played Japan in 91 they have never lost with a sore aggregate of 220-45

A couple of Scotland changes I like are Matt Scott in for Peter Horne & Sean Lamont in for Sean Maitland

But whatever the score, 4 points or 24 points,
    Scotland will win

Fully expect scotland to win but not by 17 points. Can’t wait bring on 14:30

  15. BigB 9 years ago

Gonna put small stake on David Denton & Will Genia anytime try scorer. Will put a small one down on handicap in-play during the games.

I do agree that Scotland will win and am under the impression that Scotland will cover. One of the reason Japan won against SA was their ability to not give away too many, if any scrum penalties which is very much a big part of SA’s gameplan. Scotland looked organised in defense during the warm up games so Japan might find it harder to break them down. Kicking their goals is all well and good, but I am a believer in that tries win you games.

    Week 3

Brady and Rodgers both at home. The Jaguars will be grinning from their home win against Miami yesterday. What they won’t be so chuffed about is that Brady threw over 460 yards in Buffalo. Whys that not great I hear you ask? Ryan Tannehill threw 360 yards in their win with two receivers over 110 yards. Gronkowski and Edelman will be drooling at who can get the most yards this weekend. Spread is double digits and for good reason. The Jags from sunny Florida in Boston. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Bradys passing yards at 320 this week. Still might be worth a prop bet though with Edelman and Gronkowski. Both will be around the 100 mark.

Second game is Green Bay at the Lambeau, once more on national television (all three of their games have been televised on a national scale in America since the start of the season) Last time the Chiefs played here in a regular season game they lost 20-19, that was in 2011. With the Packers extending their win streak against the Seahawks Sunday night, I can’t see the Chiefs getting much from this. After watching the game. Rodgers composure in the pocket was on point and rarely looked in trouble only being sacked twice. He’ll face a lot of pressure from Kansas but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him call Houston offside once or twice. Even then he escaped the pocket multiple times and extended plays with his feet and arms. Something nobody had seen done quite so well from him since he first hobbled off with his calf injury last season. The spread opened at -6.5 but has gone out to -7. I’m taking the alternative spread as I think it might stay closer than last nights game against Seattle, but with Manning being able to beat Kansas at the Arrowhead, Green Bay surprisingly nullifying Marshawn Lynch last night, I’ll take the Packers to cover -2.5 at home. Jamaal Charles is a whole speedier kettle of fish than Lynch but they’ll be watching film on his first two games all week and try to do the same job as they did last night.

    NFL Week 3

    Alternative Spread Double

    Patriots -6.5 – Sunday – 6:00PM
    Packers -2.5 – Tuesday – 1:30AM

    Just over 4/5 @ 365 (0.81/1) – 10 points

After watching both the Eagles and the Jets this season I am quite happy to add the Jets to my above double on the alternative spread. If they can force Andrew Luck and the Colts into that many mistakes, Sam Bradford has little hope of a productive afternoon with that offensive line. They need to get DeMarco Murray going but suffice to say, if they had to pick a game against a defensive front for Murray to start making some gains, the Jets would be bottom of the list or close to it. Think the Jets -2 could be a few peoples SS’s this weekend.

    Alternative Spread Treble

    Patriots -6.5 – Sunday – 6:00PM
    Jets +7.5 – Sunday – 6:00PM
    Packers -2.5 – Tuesday – 1:30AM

    Just over 13/10 @ 365 (1.34/1) – 3 points

So many errros from japan ffs

  24. Humble tipper 9 years ago

Having £10 on japan in play 5/1, if they weren’t making so many errors it would be atleast a 10 point lead by now

  25. Andy 9 years ago

Scotland are just not threatening until that last burst at end of half!
Don’t understand why Japan are 7/1 to win… Stick £20 on it! Worth it anyway
There’s a lot of upset to come :/

  26. Humble tipper 9 years ago

We on the same page andy, scotland just look so scared and vunerable. Can inly see 1 winner in this and japan look so much fitter

  27. Andy 9 years ago

Even the handicaps look like an open bank.. But then again it’s hard to know what Scotland team will turn up in second half!
Six nations Scotland or the Scotland other week against France…
Lol so maybe Japan backing is worth a shot then put app away and don’t try predict ahead or it’ll get messy!

  28. Humble tipper 9 years ago

Japan would have to have total meltdown to lose this muchless by 17 clear points

  29. Jordan 9 years ago

NFL fans will notice that bookies are yet to release markets for two games this weekend. Saints @ Panthers and Broncos @ Lions. Both games are currently being held due to QB‘s for the Saints and Lions both questionable. The Saints are ranked the worst team in the NFL after 2 weeks, if Breeze plays I still don’t think they’ll have much chance, especially if Luke Kuechly and Star Lotulelei are able to play.

Matt Stafford is suffering with rib injuries after being hit no less than 8 times by the Vikings in Minnesota. If the Vikings can lay 8 hits on you I’d hate to think what Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware will do to him. Broncos have had 8 days to prepare for their nice indoor game in Detroit, and with the best current defense in the league, Manning and co should win. Despite the Lions being 0-3 if they do lose, I can’t see them winning even if Stafford does play. He makes too many throws that he shouldn’t when pressure is on him. Broncos are not a defense you want to be doing that against.

Ffs stake even a schoolboy team don’t make as much errors as japan in this second half

Where you getting that highest scoring 2nd half price for the Aus / Fiji game ?

I had a look at that for the England game previously but give it a miss in the end, but it sounds even better now as Fiji on the second match and obviously will suffer tiredness before a fresh Australian team.

  32. Hellobad 9 years ago

Brian you can do it through oddschecker quite a few sites offer it

  33. Gunner 9 years ago

Yeh as predicated the short turnaround is getting to the Japanese now unfortunately. Having a punt on the Scots to get the 4th try….you know they’ll be pushing for it!

  34. Andy 9 years ago

That’s more like it…. Scotland turning up lol
Although it took 58 minutes before the Scottish fans could be heard singing!!

  35. Humble tipper 9 years ago
