FOURTH SEED Kei Nishikori served up some kamikaze tennis to become the first big-name casualty in the men's US Open.
The Japenese – runner-up last year – was 2-1 ahead in sets and leading 3-0 in the tiebreak in the fourth but end up losing in five to Benoit Paire, a 7-1 underdog pre-match.
There was also a shock in the women's singles with seven seed Ana Ivanovic falling victim to Dominika Ciblukova. And Britain's Heather Watson suffered a predictable fifth straight defeat in the first round to world No.84 Lauren Davis.
There were wins for the likes of Novak Djokovic, Marin Cilic, Eugenie Bouchard and Belinda Bencic and today Andy Murray flies the flag for Britain against controversial Aussie Nick Kyrgios.
Murray is just 1-10 (Ladbrokes) for victory and having won all three of their previous meetings in straight sets another 3-0 win pays 8-11 at Betfair while Kyrgios is 79-10 at Marathonbet to reach round two.
Matches that look good for over 3.5 sets include Robin Haase against Dustin Brown and Philipp Kohlschreiber versus Alexander Zverev.
There's also the likes of county cricket and Major League Baseball if you fancy a punt today so post your tips and chat here and good luck with your bets.
Scott's tennis treble
Haase v Brown over 3.5 sets
Kohlschreiber v Zverev over 3.5 sets
Ram v Harrison over 3.5 sets
(2.32-1, bet365)
Flying half the flag is Aljaz Bedene. He isn’t british enough for the Davis Cup, but british enough for the majors to give him a [GBR].
Mild outsider today against Ernests Gulbis; despite being slightly better ranked and has had a few wins last week on hard. A small bet for “Value”? I know anyone reading this will do their own research.
These are not final tips, these are just picks I am favouring today. Hopefully to get some ideas of who others favour and then narrow them down into some accas, and do some collective bookie bashing.
Mens
Simon d young 1/3
Giraldo d Krajicek 1/3
Vesely d Lorenzi 2/7
haase d brown 8/13
Youzhny d Smith 8/13
Bellucci d ward 1/4
Rosol d Donaldson 1/2
Hewitt d Nevedyosev 1/2
Harrison d Ram 4/6
Women

Safarova d Tsurenko 1/3
McHale d Cetkovska 2/5
Muguruza d wittofet 2/7
Schmiedlova d Goerges 4/9
Cornet d Nara 4/11
These are the better odds – possibly singles/ upset picks I think could have a chance today. Again I haven’t placed anything yet and are more for ideas/ discussion;

@ 1.02
anyone fancy any upset from those selection or is it fairly safe any input would be great as im not really upto date with form.
Hi iddy- hope all a well with you my friend.
Yesterday I went 1/2 with Cibulkova winning @ 9/4 and Coric falling to Rafa @ 4/1. A decent start.
Today sees the following of my upset tips taking to court: (I am using current prices not those I tipped at)
New picks added in BOLD
Krajicek @ 11/4
Young @ 3/1
Bedene @ 6/4
Zverev @ 7/4
Tiafoe @ 5/2
Tomljanovic @ 18/5 (this drift from 2/1, two days ago, which looked big already, is pretty worrying and there may well be something wrong with her, it doesn’t make sense otherwise)
WITTHOEFT d muguruza @ 11/4 – worth a go given mug’s poor form post Wimbledon
Iddy- I would be wary of Rosol. He has never won a main draw match in New York, and at 30 years old he’s had plenty of chances! Donaldson is a highly rated youngster, and an American on home soil against an opponent struggling for form all year, upset alert.
Ad – everything is good with me. My main bet of Rafa/ Bouchard came in yesterday. Also got on Dodin in play (remember u tipping her for big things a few months back), got 11/2 on that at 6/5 0-30 in set 2. It was 9-1 on b365 and 5-1 on wills at the start of jankovic serving to stay in set, but lost 2 quick points before I got on.
Don’t say that about Rosol – I need 5 more for a £1k Hollywood 10 fold. Other 4 are youzhny/ Harrison/ Petkovic and Ostapenko.
Ad – thinking of the following as my main ‘safe’ main bet. What u think
Safarova / Simon / Vesely – pays 1.2/1 it’s all early matches to get the ball rolling (I know u have Young as a possible upset, but Simon has beaten him quite comfortably before)
Hmm not sure Iddy- it’s not as safe as some. Safarova has been a bit wobbly lately and is capable of rubbish, though I am expecting her to win.
and as you know I’m on young, though more in hope than expectation. Anderson and Errani are pretty short but look safe. Not sure what short priced bet if any I’ll place today.
London – I would say Errani is always a big risk in an acca, then maybe Anderson but he is playing well. He just won in winston-salem
Safest tennis bet for today at evens ?
Im not sure about Safarova, ..Lesia can play very good.
Afternoon
L Robson v E Vesnina =
NAP (E Vesnina 8/15 Skybet)
Goodluck if you follow…
Nice profit on the tennis outsiders yesterday with Fognini doing the business at 2/1
onto today
Laura Robson 2-0 v Vesnina 7/2 William Hill

One more bet talked myself into-
Delbonis d Karlovic @ 4/1Here is a quick glance backwards look at the people karlovic has lost two in hardcourt slams since 2007:
Kyrgios, granollers, dodig, wang, dolgopolov, dodig, Navarro, ancic, qierrey, youzhny, clement – hardly an A list.
he’s never been past the 3rd round in New York and he cant be that confident here.
Clearly delbonis doesn’t boast a good record at hardcourt slams himself, but he should have a chance here. I saw them play on indoor hard fairly recently and it was impossible to separate them (apart from via tiebreaks that is)
11 fold acca pays 15.5/1
Cornet 4/11
Petkovic to win a set 1/4
Lepchenko to win a set 1/4
Wickmayer to win a set 1/6
Mchale to win a set 1/6
Schmiedlova to win a set 2/11
Putintseva to win a set 4/9
Simon 1/4
Bellucci 2/9
Giraldo 1/3
Anderson 1/7
Laura Robson +3.5 (Games Won) @ 4/5 bet365
Laura Robson (618) has been plagued with injury since getting down to (44)in 2013 , she only 7 matches this year so may be a bit off chance picking her,
Elena Vesnina (108)will be a tough test but if fit she should win so worth take Hcp +3.5 on Robson
Warned ya about safarova…although im having a small bet now on lucie. Gl
John Isner -5.5 (Games Won) evens bet365
John Isner (13) has had time to prepare as he was knocked out in 1st round of last tournaments in Cincinnati by Querrey (38) but should have a easier match tonight against Malek Jaziri (81) who made the semi final in Winston-Salem losing to Kevin Anderson who won the tournament
Pumadrifter any thoughts on murray to win 3-0?
Ad / puma – thanks for the info on Safarova – left her alone after your warnings.
Tyler. Vikings -2.5 at the Levis. Talk to me.

Young wins from 2-0 down. Amazing. Put a couple on at 35/1 with no hope of seeing that money again whatsoever!
Krajicek from a set down brings another big one home. Tomljanovic fell 2-1, and my last minute punt on Delbonis fell flat. Bedene and zverev have some work to do
Put up some tips earlier about Gulbis Bedene but the post was not published yet, I was writting it from my pc…dunno why is not up yet.
PumaDrifter, no idea – but your commment but it not appearing has appeared.
Im using diff email on my phone and on my laptop..but the name is same “PumaDrifter”. When writing from phone it appears instantly…on PC it says it is posted but wont publish…strange :( MrF if u see my older posts please publish. Regards, Puma
PumaDrifter, there are none in moderation. On new site all these issues will be resolved.
Anyone who doesn’t think Dundalk will score again can get their money back with under 1.5 Dundalk goals at evens at bet365.
I’m not covering.
Also if i repost the same comment it says “opps like you already posted that. Duplicate alert!” smth like that…
Maybe the admin removed my comment bcuz was talking over bedene even though i was tipping him. But still He is a traitor despite bringing some money in the bag tnight. :D other than that well done Aljaz and hope some of you was on it.
PumaDrifter, they would have deleted that – it’s not fair to call people traitors. It happens in sport these days.
But but but…he dissapointed the fans :p he said he is feeling british while he was still slovene :
Jordan it’s one ive been looking at too there’s been so much damage to the 49ers line I think AP might have a field day. The vikings starters have have been getting decent time on the field too so momentum is in there favour.

Think I’m going to take it bud. Lee seems very confident (he’s a Viking and his brother is a 49er) and like the chief has said, if the Vikings want a shot at the playoffs they should be winning this kind of game. Conditions should be good in Santa Clara for AP to beast and feast.
I got the Oddschecker tab pinned on the Steelers/Patriots game for those Brown receiving yards too haha, I reckon 90-100 with Bell and Bryant out.
Anyone else have a problem with online firms where you cannot place a tennis bet on a match even though it is not off. The U.S. Open has approx timings whereby a match is scheduled off not before 1600 for example. Some firms stop accepting bets at 1759 even if the match does not start until much later. Missed out today with a straight sets treble on Giorgi, Muguruza and Lisicki for just this reason
I meant 1559 not 1759 oops
