IT was great to chalk up my first win of the season last weekend with 12.52 profit on the goals trixie which puts us in the black after 3 weeks.

Let's nail it again this weekend with a selection of goals-based bets.

Liverpool v Arsenal – Over 2.5 Goals

I'm jumping straight in to Sunday's live match at Anfield to get us started because I can't see anything other than goals in this one.

Both defences have already shown serious frailties; Arsenal won 4-3 v Leicester on the opening day of the season while Liverpool drew 3-3 at Watford and still looked vulnerable in victory over Hoffenheim (4-2) on Thursday.

Historically this fixture throws up plenty of goals. Aside from a 0-0 draw at this stage in 2005 each of the last eight meetings have seen over 2.5 goals scored. In fact there's been 17 goals scored in the last 3 clashes between the two.

Going forward both have lots to like. Mane has impressed for Liverpool whereas Arsene Wenger has so many forwards to choose from that it often feels as though he doesn't know his preferred starters.

I'll be having separate bets on this match, even having a small stake on a over 5.5 goals (banked in two of the last three) and over 3.5 (banked in six of the last eight) but for this trixie we'll play safe and go for over 2.5 goals.

Aberdeen to score 2+

Partick Thistle took the plaudits last season when they secured a top 6 finish in the Premiership but they've got off to a sorry start in this season's campaign. Defeats to Hibs, Celtic and St Johnstone have left them second bottom in the table and they do well to take anything from Aberdeen on Saturday.

By contrast the Dons have started with three wins and the addition of Stevie May to the striking department could be a shrewd piece of business by Derek McInnes. May bagged his first for the club last weekend and gives Aberdeen an added dimension up front.

It's now no wins in nine the league for the Jags, and in that run the Dons hit Thistle for six at the tail end of last season. They should win again, I'm hoping they can do so while scoring a couple of goals.

Ayr United to score 2+

No goals bet would be complete without a bet on Ayr United in current form. Last week's four goals at Stranraer took their total to 31 in their last eight matches (almost 4 per game). On Saturday they host Arbroath whom they've beaten in their last four encounters.

In each of those the Honest Men scored two or more, in fact they've done so against Arbroath in nine of the last ten meetings. Back them to rack up a couple or more once more.

Recommendations

  • Liverpool v Arsenal – Over 2.5 Goals 8/15
  • Aberdeen to score 2+ 4/5
  • Ayr United to score 2+ 8/13
