IT’S Scottish Cup weekend and while the draw has thrown up some unique ties such as Turriff v Morton and Raith v Deveronvale there is the meeting of some old friends.

Two matches on Saturday that feature sides from the same division are Aberdeen v Motherwell and Dumbarton v Hamilton – and interestingly the previous meeting in both cases ended 3-3.

Repeats of those games would get our both teams to score line off to a flyer. Dons v Well matches have seen both net in their last four meetings and that 3-3 came at Pittodrie in September.

Well have hit a bit of form with successive away wins at Dundee Utd and Inverness with seven goals scored but clean sheets kept on neither occasion.

Aberdeen have had injury problems – and will again be missing several players – and that’s contributed to successive home defeats but they still managed to net two against Inverness on Wednesday and have in Niall McGinn a player who has netted eight in 10 matches.

First Division rivals Dumbarton and Hamilton drew 3-3 at the Bet Butler Stadium back in September – 24 hours before the Dons v Well thriller.

Dumbarton’s new boss Ian Murray makes his home bow and will be concerned at his outfit letting in nine in two games. In fact they’ve conceded 14 in five but scored in four of those matches.

Hamilton’s form has improved but with the cup-tie atmosphere combined with Murray’s baptism I don’t expect them to win to nil.

Another tie featuring sides from the same division is Forfar v Ayr. Their meeting this season ended 3-2 to Forfar at Somerset and the previous four meetings have each produced five goals with both scoring.

Forfar’s last six have seen both sides net, with a total of 32 goals – four of them seeing exactly five goals netted. Ayr’s matches have been less thrilling with both scoring in three out of four but hopefully this fixture will revert to type.

Next look at a local derby between Stenhousemuir and Falkirk. They haven’t met recently in a competitive match so both will be fired up for this one.

Second Division Stenny’s run of six games with both scoring ended at home to Alloa last Saturday but the five matches previous to that had produced a total of 26 goals.

Falkirk’s last three games have ended 2-1 or 1-2 and while they should win there is every chance they’ll concede on the unfamiliar plastic pitch.

Complete the line with sides in different leagues but fairly familiar to each other. They met in the league last season with Dundee running out 3-2 winners and losing 4-2 at Almondvale. In total both have scored in six of the eight encounters between the sides.

Dundee are in better nick in the SPL despite last week’s defeat at St Mirren with 10 men and have netted in five of their last six.

Livi have lost boss John Hughes to Hartlepool but he left behind a decent squad whose games have featured btts in five of six. I can see the First Division men taking this tie all the way and both should net.

Both teams to score

Aberdeen v Motherwell

Dumbarton v Hamilton

Forfar v Ayr

Stenhousemuir v Falkirk

Livingston v Dundee

Mr Fixit I was wondering what you think is the best way to perm lotto numbers? I do two lines of three numbers in the three draws of the Irish lotto (£6) total but I’m getting sick of hitting the post with two out of three nearly every week.

Dan, I don’t do the Irish lotto so I can’t really comment. I’m sure if you search online for Irish lotto guides or plans you’ll find something. All I’ll say is the more lines you cover the better chance you have especially when you’re looking at things like the lotto.

I normally do number 11, it’s a regular number so i win often, it’s a small win but it’s regular, i’ve noticed that 34, 17 and 28 are also regulars but finding them on one line is where it gets difficult

Sorry forgot to mention for the roughly the same stake.

Danny, think I’ll give Thursday betting a miss. Couldn’t trust Rennes after their loss to Evian at the weekend but notice Racing Post’s top tip on this is both teams to score.

Paul mate what you think of this for saturday ,

Jamie, just starting to look at the weekend now. Glancig at your selections I’d favour WBA who have been strong at home and QPR really need to get a result in Harry Redknapp’s first home match in charge. Fulham v Spurs could well be a draw and I’d expect Man Utd to win at Reading. However, I wouldn’t back Chelsea at the moment after two 0-0s until I see how things settle down under Rafa. Trip to West Ham is never easy anyway.

Anton, there might be one or two senior games off but most of the home sides in the Scottish Cup either have undersoil heating or a plastic pitch so hopefully they’ll survive. Obviously several will be under threat.

  10. anton 6 years ago

Like the look of that line Danny might stick them both together mate.

  11. Dave Black 6 years ago

Paul – just a wee note. Livi and Dundee didn’t meet in the cup last season – we were both in the first division and met on 4 occasions.

The two games at Livi ended 4-2 and 2-3 so still a decent shout.

  12. Knottsy 6 years ago

Awrite danny. Was looking at your euro acca and seen you had celta vigo. I see they have solid home form – only beaten off Malaga and they beat sevilla including others. I know youre the man for the euro games and was wonderin if u had any idea why theyre as big as 4/5, i know its a cup game but seems big for a team with good home form playing a team a division below. Im thinking of doing them as a single and just wanted to see if you had any insight. Cheers mate.

    • Suresh 6 years ago

Maybe it is because Almeria beat them 2-0 at home on Oct 31. And Celta have a home game against Levante on Sunday. The bookies probably figure they will rest some of their top players for the cup game as Celta is a team that relies on home ground to get points. And right now points certainly they need in the league as they are only 3 points away from the relegation teams. If they’d lost against Zaragoza they’d have been in trouble by now. Perhaps that’s why they are 5/4.

Knottsy, remember Celta Vigo are 2-0 down form the first leg. Don’t know if that makes them a stronger pick or a weaker one.

    • Danny 6 years ago

ave only just saw yer question Knottsy wisny ignorin ye a see uve already been furnished with an answer

  13. Suresh 6 years ago

That should’ve read 4/5. A squad of 18 has been announced by Celta even yesterday for the cup game today. But the big question is who will be the ones to start among them.

  14. John 6 years ago

Similar question to the one asked about rotherham, if Aberdeen have injury worries will they have near enough the same team they did the past 2 games?

  15. Chris 6 years ago

Danny what time do those games k.o ?

  16. Danny 6 years ago

      Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Knottsy, as I said earlier the Racing Post tipped btts at Rennes if you’re interested in that. I’m not putting anything on the cup games.

  19. Knottsy 6 years ago

Thanx paul but after looking at it decided to go smaller stake on herta berlin (in play) and rennes double. 40 stake returns 102. Birmingham v boro tomorrow could be tough to call. championship murder for punters. Maybe just go over 2.5 instead of tryin to pick a winner.

  20. Knottsy 6 years ago

Both games 1-1. Shuda done btts!! Lol
