SCOTLAND: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

I’M starting the Scottish line way up north as Ross County face Aberdeen at Dingwall in the SPL for the first time.

And the much-anticipated meeting should feature a few goals if you look at the clubs’ recent fixtures.

County started with a string of low-scoring games, including a 0-0 at Aberdeen, but their last have produced 25 goals including a 3-2 home win against Hibs and 5-4 defeat at St Mirren.

Five of Aberdeen’s last seven have seen both score and hopefully this will be six from eight.

Next stay in the SPL and try Kilmarnock v Inverness. The last five meetings between the sides have seen both score and both have also netted in each of their last games, with Killie winning 2-0 at Celtic last week to raise confidence.

Inverness are in good form and brought up a good Super Single on Wednesday with a fine 3-0 League Cup success at Rangers.

My third choice is my first from the William Hill Scottish Cup and it’s Albion Rovers v Morton. Both sides have been involved in high-scoring matches and this will be one of those old-fashioned ties in an old-fashioned ground.

Rovers’ last six have totalled 30 goals including a 4-4 home draw with Stenny. Morton can’t match those figures but 25 in six isn’t to be sniffed at. Their last two have finished 2-2 so while they will expect to have the firepower to take care of their lower-league hosts some question marks have to be asked about their defence.

Elgin can go one better than Morton with their last three being 2-2 draws. The Third Division side entertain Second Division East Fife and there should be goals here.

The last five meetings between the pair have seen both score and with 23 in Elgin’s last five games the scoreboard should be ticking over again and again.

Complete the line with Dumbarton v East Stirling. I know this is First Division v Third Division but the Sons are really struggling to keep out opponents. Twice in recent home games they’ve conceded two goals in the last two minutes to turn victories into a 3-3 draw and 4-3 defeat and that must be a concern for caretaker boss Jack Ross.

Shire have netted 13 in their last six so know the way to goal although they conceded five to Annan at the weekend and have kept just one clean sheet during this spell. Dumbarton should win but a clean sheet would be a surprise.

Both teams to score

Ross County v Aberdeen

Kilmarnock v Inverness

Albion Rovers v Morton

Elgin v East Fife

Dumbarton v East Stirling

Ross and everyone else, thanks for that. Happy to get the btts up in Scotland and it could have been a double if Yoevil had scored at Preston.
