SCOTLAND: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

THERE are no SPL games or First Division matches which makes it more difficult to pick winners this weekend.

It’s tough to work out which Scottish Cup games between teams in different leagues will produce goals so I’m taking Ayr v Falkirk then concentrating on the SFL.

It was 2-2 at Somerset Park when the sides met in the league in August and Ayr’s last home match with Hamilton was also 2-2.

Falkirk netted against Celtic in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden at the weekend and showed tremendous ability.

They’ll attack an Ayr side who lost to Kilmarnock without scoring in the other semi-final and there should be  a few goals.

Falkirk have lost Hampden star man Kallum Higginbotham to Huddersfield while Murray Wallace also joined the Terriers but in a boost for the club was loaned straight back.

Top scorer Farid El Alagui remains at Falkirk despite being linked with amove so that’s a boost for the Bairns and their attack threat. Ayr can concentrate on moving clear of the relegation zone now their big tie with Kilmarnock is over and I’m hoping for goals here.

There is, however, a Saturday morning inspection at Somerset and most SFL grounds so hold off putting the line on until the game’s given the all-clear. I’ll keep an eye on things and change fixtures if required. But if Ayr’s is off substitute with Aberdeen v QoS.

Next up it’s Arbroath v Airdrie in the Second Division. It was 3-1 Arbroath when they met earlier in the season and the return finished 3-3 at New Broomfield.

Arbroath have hit 12 in their last four league games while Airdrie’s last three league games since a 6-2 Scottish Cup defeat to Dundee United have featured 12 goals.

Airdrie have retained the services of top scorer Ryan Donnelly so while Arbroath will be hot favourites to win the Diamonds should score against a side who have only kept one clean sheet in seven matches.

Next from the Second Division it’s Stirling v Forfar. This season it was 4-2 to Forfar at Forthbank and the sides then drew 2-2 at Station Park.

Stirling have failed to score just twice in seven games while Forfar have kept one clean sheet in seven.

Now to the Third Division and Montrose v Annan. It was 3-2 at Annan at Links Park earlier in the season and bot teams also scored when they met in the borders.

Montrose have lost their last two, both away, but thumped Clyde 4-0 in their previous home outing. Four of Annan’s last six matches have featured four or more goals with both sides scoring in each of them.

Finally, complete the fivefold with a meeting at Hampden between Queen’s Park and Alloa. One thing’s for sure, this game will beat the freeze and go ahead – and hopefully there will be goals as well.

Queen’s last five have produced 21 goals while Alloa have scored seven in three. The victories have been notched without conceding but Queen’s are strong at home, having lost ony once, so I expect them to find the target.
