FAVOURITES England made a winning Six Nations start last night but Wales made them fight all the way.

In the end a late penalty gave them a 26-19 win and I was minutes away from a successful start after tipping Wales plus six points.

Today sees Italy take on Ireland and France tackle Scotland in Paris.

William Hill are seeing bits and pieces for the two underdogs but I'm standing by the favourites although on the handicaps improving Italy could be worth backing at plus 12 points while Scotland are given a 14-point head start.

The French are 1-1 with bet365 minus 14 with Scotland 1-1 plus 14. Italy are 11-10 with bet365 plus 12 with Ireland 10-11 minus 12.

I might try a sneaky double on the underdogs with their big leads.

This year’s championship promises to be the most open in years and one of the most popular pre-tournament bets has been for no team to win the Grand Slam. Skybet cut the odds of no nation winning all five of their matches to 4-7 from 4-6.

England are one result closer achieving that but I can't see them getting there.
