IT was a tremendous day for me last Saturday with a return from all four tips.  Muthmir (advised at 5/2) and Summerghand (advised at 9/2) both did the business and my two each way shouts of Golden Wolf (17/2) and Larchmont Lad (20/1) finished second.  We went 2 points each way on each of them so it was a nice profit on both.

Today's big racing is from Sandown and York and although we have Royal Ascot starting on Tuesday there is still some really competitive racing today.  York is a track where I have had plenty of success in the past and if you haven't been I strongly recommend a visit.

All of my tips today come from York and I'm hoping for another bumper day where I have ended up tipping horses in 6 out of the 7 races at the track.  I have a few horses ridden by Danny Tudhope and also three trained by Tim Easterby who has an excellent record at York. I don't think it pays to follow jockeys and trainers blindly but regular readers will know that Tudhope is a jockey I really admire and I think he is often under-bet whilst the Tim Easterby stable, particularly when David Allan is jocked-up, can be very strong when targeting bigger races at northern tracks.

1.50pm York

This is an amateur lady riders race so the jockeys are not professionals and it helps to have a good quality amateur onside.  As it happens there are plenty of good lady riders in the race today with the likes of Becky Smith, Serena Brotherton and Joanna Mason all very competent and experienced.

This is the richest lady amateur race of the season so it attracts the best amateurs and is also a target for big stables.  Emily Easterby is another who has plenty of experience and she rides MUKHAYYAM for her father Tim Easterby.  Emily won her first race when taking this race two years ago so it is a special one for the family.  She finished second last year on Mukhayyam and he will be primed for another big run today having dropped to a competitive mark again following two wins last summer.

He was rated at 94 at one stage and is now back down to a mark of 86 which makes him very competitive.  The main danger in my view will be Tapis Libre with Joanna Mason on board who won last year and races off the same mark.

2.25pm York

Quite a few firms are offering 4 places each way in this race which is a good concession. I was torn between two horses that look good value so I have decided to go for both of them because of the 4 places on offer. The first is the current second favourite GOLDEN APOLLO for Tim Easterby and David Allan.  He looked a really nice prospect last summer but it has taken him a couple of runs to get going this year.  Last time out looked better and I think he will kick on again today.

The second choice is SALATEEN for O'Meara and Tudhope.  He was third in the race last year and rides off the same mark.  He won on his penultimate start at Doncaster but hasn't been hammered for that by the handicapper and I think he should be a shorter price than this.  I think he has a strong chance of finishing in the top 4. I should mention that the favourite Spanish City looks a solid prospect but there isn't much value in his price so going each way is important in this race.

3.00pm York

This one looks relatively straightforward to me.  MARMELO was sent off joint favourite for the Melbourne Cup in November (finishing a respectable 9th of 23) and was only beaten a neck by the very classy Vazirabad on his reappearance in a Group 2 race at Longchamp. He also won a Group 2 at Deuville last season and should have too much for the rest of the field here in this Listed race.  I would have him closer to even money so the 7/4 is a lovely bit of value this morning.

3.35pm York

I feel like a parrot here but it's Tim Easterby again for this race and STAXTON is a horse who regular readers will remember that I have followed since he showed plenty of promise at the start of his 2 year old career last season.  His seasonal reappearance at Newmarket was decent enough finishing 4th of 10 and I think he will kick on and win a decent handicap this season. Let's hope it's today. Several bookies are offering 5 places on this race so take them up on that.

4.05pm York

I've been following WAARIF for a few runs now.  He is very consistent and I think he still has some juice in his handicap mark.  The nice thing about following a horse like this is that we still do quite well when he gets a place and he is surely going to get his head in front soon.

5.15pm York

Another big price and hopefully a bit of value in this race with SHORT WORK for Danny Tudhope and David O'Meara.  He was 2nd at Hamilton last week which looked like a return to form of some sort.  I think the key to him is a bit of cut in the ground.  At the time of writing the ground is officially good to firm but my man on the ground tells me that it is currently raining in York and the forecast is for rain for the rest of the day.  By the time this one kicks off at 5.15pm I think we could have much softer ground than advertised and if that's the case this lad isn't a 12/1 shot.
