Racing: Johnb’s Cheltenham Chat & Tips

IT’S only 10 days to the start of Cheltenham and there is excitement in the air.

Fresh from his stunning 255-1 treble on Friday Johnb has a hot Festival tip.

He says: In the 2.50 at Newbury on Saturday Saint Charles has to win to get into the Martin Pipe Conditional or the Coral Cup at the Festival.

I’ve been waiting ages for a bookie to give even money for a horse but it’s not coming. The Mares Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham will be won by Limini – the banker of the meeting but only a best price of 10-11 with racebets.

Let’s hear all your early Cheltenham chat and tips.

    The supreme novice hurdle

I just thought id put my opinion up as to why i believe MIN is the one to beat.
There was huge hype about the horse prior to his first race for Mullins and he didnt disapoint winning as easy as you like by 14L from Gurteen who won his next 2 races. Gurteen disappointed yesterday but returned with an injury to his right hind so maybe he can be forgiven for that run.
MIN’s 2nd run was again won with the absolute minimum of fuss by 9 1/2L with Attribution 2nd (who i will admit was poor yesterday) but Ball D’arc was a further 1 1/4L back in 3rd and if you look at what he has done since then MIN’s form looks rock solid imo.
Ball D’arc (now rated 135) has won both his races since beating Royal Caviar (2nd yesterday) by 3L easing down with Myska miles back in 5th. His next race he beat the 139 rated Au Quart Tour by 17 1/4L.
Min will have to settle better than his last race but im sure Mullins is more than happy with what he has seen to date or he may have wanted another run and with the Mullins Ricci Walsh combo having won the race for the past 3 years they know what they are doing and will be confident of win number 4.
Again this is just my opinion and would be interested to read reasons why people are against him.

Gengar I’ve been going Cheltenham for the last 15yrs my advice would be sit down and watch all last years chelts festival, most of the years racing has been on testing ground with a lot of races in which a classy horse can dictate and cruise along and then run away from there rivals, the festival races are run at tempos rarely repeated elsewhere…also remember some owners/trainers gear their whole season to land a winner at the festival, so watch last years festival to remind you who ran well when exposed by the unique rigours of the festival.. Study past chelt form especially the handicaps and don’t be put off with its price, don’t read too many papers and tips oh and good luck mate
