OCT 30: TENNIS AND OTHER SPORTS TIPS

tennisballgeneric

THE Swiss Indoors quarter-finals serves up a potential humdinger today with Marin Cilic taking on Rafa Nadal.

Cilic has been in good form recently, winning a title in Moscow and not dropping a serve in his last five matches although the opposition wasn’t exactly top quality. Nadal is no longer the force he was but has at least steadied the ship after a season of struggle.

The fast indoor courts are suited to Cilic’s game and I reckon he can bag the win at 39-29 with Marathonbet against Unibet’s 10-13 favourite.

The rest of the last-eight action isn’t bad either – Richard Gasquet against serving behemoth Ivo Karlovic, Roger Federer v David Goffin and Jack Jack taking on fellow Yank Donald Young.

The group stage at the WTA Finals rounds off with Garbine Muguruza needing just a set against Petra Kvitova to reach the semis and Angelique Kerber also looking to progress for the first time.

There’s semi-final action from snooker’s International Championship – John Higgins’ battle with Mark Selby is the pick of the ties – and the European Championship darts gets under way in Belgium.

Good luck with your bets and let’s hear all your sporting tips and thoughts.

    Posted on the 26th thread.

Somebody stop me for a second. The Patriots have just beaten one of if not the best defensive team in the NFL by a margin of -6 at home? Would have been by 10 if not for a late field goal. They now have a short week on Thursday night at home to the Dolphins who blew the Texans out 41-0 in the half, but only managed 3 points in the second half with the Texans scoring 26 points? Yes, Miami have a new coach, yes they are 2-0 under him, but this is the 6-0 Patriots at home, and they’re only giving Miami 7.5 points? Missing something here…

Patriots blowout the Dolphins 36-7. Certainly didn’t miss anything apart from the tip haha

Rugby world cup 3rd/4th place match tonight. Loads of value flying about for this match which neither team really wants yo be a part of, i actually think argentina has more chance of winning than the odds suggest but SA are a proud rugby nation and will want a degree of revenge after being beaten by the pumas in durban earlier this year.

I have chosen this bet due to SA being hard to break down, the kicking prowess of sanchez, the law of averages saying argentina will get a few penalties in the 80 minutes and SA only making 2 changes

Argentina more successful pens than tries 5/6 NAP

The dreaded 3rd/4th place game today in the rugga! Not sure how either team will approach it but looking at the team the Boks have picked it appears they want this win!

None of the markets stand out to me so small stakes for sure. Bryan Habana is the joint try scorer in World Cup history with Lomu so you can be sure he’ll (And the Boks) want to claim the overall record. I’ll therefore be putting some cash on him to score a try anytime at 6/5. Great odds I reckon!

Other than that I’ll be taking the over 46.5 as the Boks will want to finish with a bang and keep an eye on the number of tries market in-play. Enjoy!

Just a quick question to all the American sport guys. What is the diffence between a .0 and .5 spread? For example Oklahoma was -4.5 then changed to -4. Surely they still need to win by 5 for both to win? Am I missing something here?

  21. mlac 1 year ago

@merv some bookies will void it if it’s -4, 4.5’s only possible outcome is to win by 5.

  22. OriaZ 1 year ago

@Merv, whole numbers (-4) will be voided while half point numbers (-4.5) aren’t possible so the outcome is win/lose.

I’m not convinced of his Miami turnaround , wins over the Titans and that terrible Texans team are nothing to shout about. Brady’s revenge tour continues on the fins tonight I feel. Tanehill does not have the ability to make big plays. Throwing 5 yard passes all night is not going to get you close to Tom Brady in Foxborough. If the pats can get a balanced run game tonight wich im sure we will see as brady being your top rusher last week is something that would have been worked on heavily this week , everything through the air is going there way they and the pats could blow them away tonight. Belichick v Campbell , Brady V Tannehil i think we would all agree who wins the vote there. Dolphins to be brough back to reality

Tyler, it’s possible but I had a look at their schedule this morning. Three ‘possible’ banana skins. @ Giants (I know, I’m mad, but history says so) @ Broncos (If Peyton gets the offense going) @ Jets. But, those are big buts.

Some of these markets might interest you.

Evening Guys, European Darts Evening Session

A cracking night of action ahead as some of the big boys take to the Oche, my guy MVG is the reigning champion and is 2/1 with the sponsors Unibet. Regulars know I am a MVG guy and he as got the top half of the draw, avoiding the bottom half which contains Taylor, Wade, Anderson, Smith, Lewis and Barney.

Having a look at the matches I should stress stakes should be kept to a minimum until tomorrow as it is only the best of 11 legs, so it gives the underdogs a chance.

Two standout games for me is the all Dutch affair between Klaasen – Barney & Wade – Jenkins. Barney is slipping down the rankings and was out of sorts in Dublin. Klaasen is flying at the moment, he reached the quarter finals of the Grand Prix and since then reached the quarter finals and final on the tour. Bookies have RVB odds on and while he may win, I cant touch it at those odds, if Klaasen comes out the traps fast I think he will win over this distance. He is 6/5 Boylesport

The James Wade – Terry Jenkins is a tough one to call, again over the short format I would if pushed go that last years finalist Jenkins. A bet I do like is Jenkins to have most 180s. Wade is a solid scorer but not a heavy scorer, he hits a lot of 140s. Jenkins can be a bit erratic, in Dublin he had a host of darts going in the 5 bed. I am hoping he as tightened that up and looks a value bet to hit the most 180s at 1/1 Paddy Power.

Mensur Suljovic is playing great darts at the moment, he dumped Gary Anderson out the world Matchplay then at the Grand Prix he made the semi finals beating Wade, Whitlock and Van Der Voort on the way. He is an tough player to beat with his style and the game wont suit Chizzy who loves to get on with it. I will say it again the short format gives Suljovic a big chance, and I think it will be a close game. I like O9.5 legs at 11/10 Skybet.

    KLASSEN TO BEAT RVB 6/5
JENKINS TO HIT MOST 180s 1/1
    SULJOVIC – CHISNALL O9.5legs 11/10

    Outright

    MVG 2/1

Good luck if your having a bet

    BASKETBALL – BALTIC LEAGUE

Estonia based TTU KK are underdog here against the Kazakhs of Atyrau Barsy with PP offering a tempting 15/8 for TTU KK on the ML, but I see this as a very close, low scoring game. Both teams are coming off a poor start in the Baltic league but TTU KK should show more promise with home court advantage.

Atyrau have lost both opening games by smaller margins which may indicate a slight advantage with regards to form but I wouldn’t underestimate TTU here as they are more than capable of winning this. Very tempted by the ML but a cautious approach to the start of the season is advised….

    BASKETBALL – Euroleague

    BASKETBALL – NBA

GS Warriors @ HOUSE Rockets (1:35am)

Warriors have won 9 from 10 meetings, 3 of 4 in houston and 7 of the 10 they’ve won by double digits.

Starting their campaigns this season the warriors cruised to a 16 point win ove the pelicans, 111-95 at home while houston faced a surprise defeat at home, going down to the nuggets 85-105.

On this basis I was tempted to go with the Warriors on a double digit spread but it’s early days yet and a more cautious approach seems to be the sensible option.

Money Line: GS Warriors @ 10/11 Coral 2pts

Good luck with your bets tonight gents!

  37. Jordan 1 year ago

Hunter, remember the Rockets didn’t have Dwight Howard against the Nuggets who was suspended for his flagrant foul in the playoffs. He’ll be back tonight but I can’t touch that one. Good luck bud.

  38. Hunter 1 year ago

*Note to self* Wait 15 mins after posting before placing any bets!!
Certainly changes things Jordan, thanks for the heads-up. Glad I didn’t go with the spreads but will let this one run and hope that the champs have enough in the locker.

  39. thechief 1 year ago

Jordan, big ask mate with that O line. If they get to 10-0 then the media circus will be huge and teams with nothing to play for will want to be the. 1. Brady doing well staying healthy behind that line. Jets and Giants look to have good chances against them.

  40. Jordan 1 year ago

Cheers chief. Those are two of the three banana skins I mentioned but I know what you mean. Even a team with a losing record would like to put a dent in that win streak. If any team is going to do it its the Pats. Really can’t see a win for Green Bay under the Mile High lights this weekend. Anticipating Demaryius Thomas’ rec yards. We don’t have a corner who can match up to him and after what Keenan Allen did, I think he’s in for a big game if Peyton can stay upright.

Hunter don’t get me wrong I love the Warriors and still think they can repeat the championship but the Rockets will be better tonight. Can’t remember Hardens shooting percentages but I’m sure it was somewhere along the lines of 6-21. Be amazed if its as bad as that again.

  41. Hunter 1 year ago

Jordan, to be fair, it is one of those games that you look at and think ‘this could go either way’. After Harden’s statement with regards to the MVP, both Curry and Harden will both have a point to prove and this game will prob be decided on who out of the two has the better game. Gonna be a hell of a match up, I’m just praying Curry comes out on top!

BTW, has anyone heard of or have an account with Matchbook? They seem to have some really good odds for NBA!

  42. Shaun 1 year ago

Jordan just a quick question, ain’t posted on here in a while; on your alternate point spread double of Denver -1.5 and Spurs -6.5 earlier it said 19/20, I’m now getting it at 1.07/1. Odds now saying less likely as gone over evens is this something to worry about?

  43. Jordan 1 year ago

Shaun, nothing to worry about at all mate. Basketball spreads will move all day based on what punters go for. Its the Nugget spread which has affected the price. I originally just wanted them on the ML with the SPurs alternate handicap but didn’t like Skybets markets.

  44. Shaun 1 year ago

Might just go for Nuggets on the ML and Spurs handicap as will still be around evens now. How you been keeping aint been on here since end of last NBA season!

Top tipping on the darts Chief, thanks mate. Any tips on the last game?

  47. Jordan 1 year ago

Two weeks ago at the Lambeau field, Phillip Rivers broke all kinds of single game records for the San Diego Chargers and very nearly pulled off a 4th quarter comeback against my Green Bay Packers with one of the most decimated offensive lines in the NFL. He attempted 65 passes with 43 completions for 503 yards which tied 16th place on the NFL all time single game passing yards list.

His main target for the afternoon was wide receiver Keenan Allen who hauled in 14 receptions from 15 targets for a ridiculous 157 yards. The worst part is, Allen left the field in the third quarter with an injury so who knows how many yards Rivers and Allen could have added if he played the whole game. Allen stands at 6 ft 2, and the Packers only have one corner that stands prouder than 5 ft 11 in rookie LaDarius Gunter who has only seen 5 defensive snaps all season. Hayward, Shields, Randall, Rollins and Goodson are all 5 ft 11, something that the Packers obviously see as a good height for a corner when drafting, but its quite clear it doesn’t work against vertical threats.

Demariyus Thomas, Peytons number one go to receiver (could argue Sanders is equally favourable but Thomas has seen the more targets) stands at 6 ft 3 and can do it all. Stretch you down the field, burn you in the slot, catch a screen and take it for 20 yards after the catch. He is one of the best yet underrated receivers in the NFL with names like Megatron, Bryant, Brown and Jones usually coming before him. But there is no doubt that he is is one of the Broncos key men on offense.

Averaging 11 yards per reception and 87.8 yards per game, I will be shocked if Gary Kubiak hasn’t watched the footage of Rivers and Allen lighting up our secondary and has some sort of game plan to get the same production on Sunday night. The Packers are being favourited by 2.5 points and as a fan of them I can say with confidence that we could be picking up our first loss of the season at the Mile High where the air is thin in Mannings back garden. The key to the Broncos success has been their defense this year, but if the bookies have it right as a tough fought out game, and the Packers as outright winners, that’ll mean Manning will have to get that ball in the air with their run game averaging a league second worst of 85 yards per game on the ground.

All this write up and no bet?

Ladbrokes have just released the Thomas total @ 85.5 @ 10/11 but I think I’ll be able to get lower than that over the weekend. Will keep anybody interested updated. The write up better be worth it haha

  48. Picksix 1 year ago

Hunter its preety hard atm mate due to it being early days and it does seem high at 211.5 i agree you usually only get a total like that whith those fast paced teams, maybe set that high because of Kobe and because lakers just seem to leak buckets too. Ryan – still a good chance OKC will come back. Just noticed in 2012, same matchup, Magic up by 11 at start of 4th qtr after leading all game and then OKC go on to win by 3.

    My only bet for today:

    – GSW -1.0
    – Portland +4.5

DOUBLE pays odds of $3.61 (3 points)

  74. Attila 1 year ago

Haha I know it was 2012, was just using it as an example of the away team coming back when they were down and out.

  75. Jordan 1 year ago

    They’re coming!

  76. Ellis 1 year ago

I backed thunder, seem some of these comments and was thinking the comeback is extremely unlikely. Coming strong though!

  77. Attila 1 year ago

OKC is now favourite on the live odds. Jeez that comeback didn’t take long haha

Just noticed this market and currently scratching my head.

Ronda Rousey will face Holly Holm on the 14th of November. Rousey has fought 6 times in the UFC with 5 of those fights ending in the first round. Her last 4 fights have totaled 1 minute and 5 seconds. Basically there is nobody in the league of this woman who could probably make most men cry. Holly Holm is undefeated 9-0 (only 2 of those in the UFC) but has fought a bunch of nobodies in her time. Prices I’ve looked at.

Rousey to win 1/14 AT BEST!

    Rousey 1st round victory 4/11

These prices are obviously nothing to shout about, but Under 0.5 Total Rounds is priced @ 8/5 @ 888. Does that mean the fight would have to finish in 2 minutes 30 seconds (5 minute rounds) or like football is the 0.5 like 1 goal? Tyler or mlac might be able to shed some light on this being boxing fans.

  79. Attila 1 year ago

Well that comeback was short lived LOL Christ what an odd game

  80. mlac 1 year ago

OKC just blew it in the space in a minute. missed a 3 to take it to a 3 point game, less than 2 minutes later its a 16 point game…

  81. Jordan 1 year ago

The only problem with basketball betting. Think you’re getting somewhere then boom, five missed shots with the opponents scoring on every possession haha

  82. Picksix 1 year ago

The Thunder will always hype you up to dissapoint. Still a q to play for them to comeback but My comparasiant of them is that they are arsenal of the NBA. There not really reliable and will usually dissapoint when it seems likely they will win.

  83. mlac 1 year ago

    trying recoup my OKC losses:

Quite frustrating watching this really, magic just seem to be wide open on every attempt

  85. Jordan 1 year ago

Worst haircut in the NBA award goes to Elfrid Payton

  86. Attila 1 year ago

Nets are all over the Spurs. Nets are always under-rated by bookies but always have a capable squad

  87. Attila 1 year ago

OKC to take this to overtime!

  88. Jordan 1 year ago

Haha its the second quarter!? Possession changes every twenty odd seconds. You can’t make these kind of comments in basketball. I’d say they are crap in all honesty. Only ‘good’ player is Brook Lopez. Agree to disagree.

  89. Jordan 1 year ago

Lost their best player in Deron Williams to the Mavs too. No team is awful in the NBA but they have one of the worst rosters by far this season.

  90. mlac 1 year ago

OH MY GOD WESTBROOK OH MY GOD !!!!!!!

  91. Jordan 1 year ago

    Kevin Durant you dirty man!

  92. Jordan 1 year ago

OMG!! Westbrook from half court!! Ties it with 0.7!

  93. mlac 1 year ago

that was incredible. please win this now OKC.

  94. Attila 1 year ago

I can make that comment if I like Jordan. I’ve always thought the Nets are under-rated by bookies. Whilst they may not win all the time they do cover ATS quite well in last couple seasons.

  95. Ryan 1 year ago

What happens to OKC -5 does that carry over into overtime.

  96. Attila 1 year ago

Yeh Ryan – final game result counts including OT

  97. Attila 1 year ago

This is prob one of the biggest comebacks I’ve witnessed in NBA. Wow – Magic are demoralised now after letting that massive lead slip!

  98. Ryan 1 year ago

Thanks Attila, OKC are now my fav basketball team if they pull this off lol.

  99. Attila 1 year ago

I never said OKC game was over! I said they will likely comeback.
And I never said Nets will win, I just said they are all over the Spurs in the 2nd qtr. which they were, winning it by 9 points.
    What’s the prob man?

  100. Jordan 1 year ago

Saying the Nets are all over the Spurs with an 8 point lead though? That’s three shots. Should know this game by now. Always making comments in the early stages of a game. Prime example is the OKC game. Let the games go on haha

Ryan yes it carries into overtime mate.

  101. Jordan 1 year ago

And I never said you did? Are you watching the Spurs game?

  102. Jordan 1 year ago

OKC have no right to win this. Those shots to take it to OT were unreal. Doesn’t beat the Warriors 20 point comeback in the playoffs though. That was something.

  103. mlac 1 year ago

    this game is crazy.

  104. Attila 1 year ago

Yeh on and off in between other games haha. No drama Jordan, it’s all good. I love that we’re all so passionate with NBA talk lol

  105. Jordan 1 year ago

Oh ffs! Double OT! Come on Thunder!

  106. Attila 1 year ago

Haha 2nd Overtime for OKC & Magic. What a match!

  107. Ryan 1 year ago

This OKC match is a rollercoaster of emotions. Jeez I just want to go to sleep. lol.

  108. Jordan 1 year ago

Westbrook 47, Durant 41. That’s the real dream team right there!

  109. mlac 1 year ago

    lol ryan same 😀
    im exhausted!

@-5 okc guys now would be a very good time to cover.

  110. Ryan 1 year ago

Wasn’t expecting overtime mate, so I put remaining funds on football bets for tomorrow lol.

  111. Attila 1 year ago

    OKC gonna thrownthisnlead away again!

  112. Jordan 1 year ago

    Better not I’ll be mortified.

  113. Ryan 1 year ago

Although the OKC -5 lost, it was an entertaining way to lose.

  114. Jordan 1 year ago

Anybody seen the size of the guy the Spurs have got in at the moment!? Biggest player I’ve ever seen!

  115. Picksix 1 year ago

Two very dangerous men right there , That’s a biigggg win , thunder would have bottled that last season only second game but that’s a big win

  116. Jordan 1 year ago

Tyler have a look at my comment on the new thread please mate.

  117. Picksix 1 year ago

    Just seen it
