IT'S good to be back but not great to be faced with a card that features predominantly cup games from across Europe.

I don't want to be accused of sitting on the fence but it's a tough night to make predictions and I'll be keeping stakes to a minimum.

In the Capital One Cup I'll be doing singles on Leeds and Swindon if opponents Southampton and Aston Villa as reported field weakened teams.

Leeds beat Everton at home in the previous round and are a biggest 8-5at William Hill and Blue Square. I'm even more attracted by Paolo di Canio's Swindon who are 5-2 at Paddy Power at home to Paul Lambert's struggling Villa.

Wigan will also rest players for the visit of Bradford which makes them a risk at just 1-3 with the likes of Ladbrokes and William Hill.

In Scotland I don't particularly like Celtic at a best 3-10 (various) while St Johnstone are 10-1 (William Hill, BetVictor) with the draw 9-2 at Skybet.

Charlie Mulgrew came as close as anyone to netting for the Hoops at the weekend so the best bet could be the deadball expert to score at 11-2 with Coral if he starts.

The other tie sees Aberdeen entertain St Mirren and the on-form Dons should storm into the last four. Aberdeen have won four of their last five but haven't beaten the Buddies in seven attempts.

However, I'll be on Craig Brown's men at 10-11 with Betfred and take a look at Niall McGinn at 9-5 with Paddy Power to score.

Looking at the European games, you have the same problem as the Capital One Cup with many managers fielding weakened sides.

Rennes should be too good for an Arles-Avignon side that's lost four in a row so take them at 4-9 with William Hill.

In the German Cup the two I'm looking at are Dortmund at 2-7 with William Hill at Aalen and Cologne at 8-11 with William Hill away to Wormatia Worms.

Did anyone notice only one of the twelve League 2 matches on Saturday had both teams scoring. There were eleven ‘nils’ in a row. Conclusion- these things even up so look to League Two this weekend for your BTTS bets.

Here’s some tips for you for Saturday :

    Welcome back Mr F,

I’m going for a long old accumulator that will most probably never EVER come in but I am feeling lucky!

    Home wins

    Reading to beat Arsenal
    Sunderland to beat Boro
    Wigan to beat Bradford
    Chelsea to be United

    Away Wins

    Tottenham to beat Norwich
    Swansea to beat Liverpool

    Draws

    Leeds v Southampton
    Swindon v Villa

Stick them all in one accumulator and £3 brings in £5731.64 … Lovely

  6. Arnie 11 years ago

Common Mr AC, at least make an effort of it. If that accumulator comes in am gonna be crying my sockets, hahahahahahah.

Welcome back Mr F, to be honest we missed you, though your stand in did well, he was ALMOST there, but great to have you back. So am liking your treble, think that’s my big bet today.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Craig, it’s a shocker but that’s why I don’t do much on the Capital One Cup. Like you I have the game for btts so hopefully the Gunners will at least score. My Havelse v Bochum btts is in but 0-0 on the other two so far.

  18. Striker 11 years ago

Yeah, they are getting trodden on. Hope Reading don’t have a clean sheet though.

  19. Craig alves 11 years ago

Av only got Leeds Reading Swindon Aberdeen tonight 4 games tomorrow and 2 Thursday. 1 in wi 1 team scored in other 3 so not too bad atm. Thought arsenal widve at least put up a fight as its prob there only realistic chance of winning a trophy but they have made 11 changes haha recipe for disaster. Walcott yass

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Craig, you just need goals from Southampton and Swindon. U must have a chance. I need Southampton and St Johnstone with the latter maybe being the problem.

  20. malcolm caithness 11 years ago

Hi Paul hope you had a good holiday do you know anything about Bodog sports see to disappeared as they say there working on live dealers for casino but you can’t get into the sports bit and when you click on customers support i got nothing

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Malky, bodog had some problems with betting in the USA but I don’t know about here. I’ll drop them an email when I go back into the Record later in the week.

  21. Craig alves 11 years ago

Swindon score but check bet365 stats and Southampton had 3 shots on goal none on target, Swindon equalise haha hope they go on to win now, di canio will be going crazy

  22. Knottsy 11 years ago

Canny believe my reading single got beat!! Fancied them strongly too :(

    • robert miller 11 years ago

its bad enough when you back a team that loses a 2 goal lead but 4 must drive you bonkers.

i looked at the betting in running when Reading went 3 nil up and it was 1/14 Reading and 9/1 the draw

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Knottsy, it’s an unbelievable comeback by Arsenal and here was me worried about them getting one when it was 4-0.

  23. Paul 11 years ago

Student punter . Why have you changed your website bet ? From Aberdeen and Gainsborough to just Gainsborough …….after Aberdeen drew …bad bad

  24. Paul 11 years ago

Mind you ,I’d be embarrassed if my first bet on ” turn a fiver into five hundred bet “. Went down . But I wouldn’t try and con people by changing it after you lost . You even left. DOUBLE still on the bet with one team …. Lol .joker

  25. Craig alves 11 years ago

Ma pal had £2 on arsenal 5-4 at ht 66/1, chasing £££ stuck £30 @11/4 on 5-4 after extra time. Can see more goals tho

  29. student-tipper 11 years ago

I changed it back. apologies! Just keeping you on your toes.

  30. Bingo 11 years ago

Unlucky with your super single Knottsy. I thought it was a sure thing at half time. I’m never betting on the league cup again. 7-5 aet to Arsenal. Unbelievable. Mulgrew to score at @ 11/2 was a nice tip Mr Fixit. Unlucky with your other tips. As your always saying the league cup is a betting mans nightmare. Looking forward to the weekend tips and taking the bookies for a few quid.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Bingo, as Chris Guy will confirm Mulgrew’s done us both a few turns this season and last. Disappointed with Aberdeen beating the treble but I had to throw in a decent price to make it worthwhile. I looked at the likes of Valencia, Barca and Mainz but all pretty short.

  31. john.t 11 years ago

Students tipper your a joke pal, you have been found out. Your credibility has gone, changing your bet Haha what a nob

  32. student-tipper 11 years ago

Didn’t mean to do it, publically apologise.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Sorry mate but you can never change a bet. Once it’s up there you can’t do anything about. Take the wins with the losses and learn your lesson.

  33. john.t 11 years ago

Student you been found out, never mind all this i changed it bk crap, why did u change it in the first place?

  34. student-tipper 11 years ago

John.t and everyone else, just getting used to having a site and it was an honest mistake. I don’t know what else to say but I really apologise, I have put a public apology up and can ensure that it won’t happen again. It’s been corrected and take complete responsibility. You all seem like very good people on this site and I am sorry guys I really am.

  35. student-tipper 11 years ago

Lesson learnt mr. fix, sorry guys.

  36. Craig alves 11 years ago

Defo trying this MOTM betting at wknd, bluesquare were only bookie doing it but now betvictor started it tonight, picked Walcott today on twitter but had no £ on it. Been following a guy that does this all season and always decent prices. Walcott was 14/1 and the guy that does it had collocini at 50/1 few wk back. Plus it’s only televised games they do it on so makes any game more interesting

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Craig, quite a few firms do it on live games. I’ve looked a couple of times and quite like taking a keeper as you normally get about 16-1.

  37. Mister Mr 11 years ago

I think this site will be my only tips service that I will use. Now as for the scores tonight, I am shocked at Reading blowing it. My god is football fixed or something? Thank goodness my Leeds Utd single came up ok. Hope you guys had something on that

  38. Chris 11 years ago

Here’s some tips for you for Saturday :
Nottm For v Millwall, Nottm win 4/5
Watford v leicester, Leicester win 11/10
Rotherham v Stevenage, Stevenage win 6/4
Ross Co v Aberdeen, Aberdeen win 5/4

  39. Bingo 11 years ago

Mr F I’ve been following your column in the Record for years and I’ve made a few quid from your tips. Do you not do your 4 draws anymore? I always like to stick a fiver on 4 draws due to the fact you get a nice return if it comes in. Over the last few seasons I’ve had the 4 draws up at least 5 times. My best return being about £670… I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve had 3 outta 4. You do always advise perming bets though…

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Bingo, draws will be back soon, possibly even this weekend.

  40. Craig alves 11 years ago

Thought it was only bluesquare just cos guy was always taking their prices but will have a go on a wee 20p lucky 15 on this wknds 4 premier league games. Betvictor put early prices up tonight and Arshavin was cut from 20/1 to 12/1 but that’s too much of a gamble them don’t know team. Wouldn’t lke to take keepers tho as a couple ogle early goals and it’s done, prefer midfielders like cazorla Mata hazard Ben arfa e.g strikers too hit and miss and usually favs. Will have a bash an see how it goes

Chris, have just about picked my Scottish btts for the weekend so here’s hoping.

  43. Jonathan Grieve 11 years ago

Alright Paul and the rest of y’all, looking for ur opinion here………I’ve had a bit of success recently by backing people 2 score who have a good scoring record against their particular opponent. I took Messi 2 score 2 or more against Deportivo a few weeks back (bit of an obvious one I suppose),Chicarito 2 score against Chelsea (even tho he was a sub) and Scott Vernon 2 score against St.Mirren last night. All of these were bet mainly on the strength of their past record against their opponents, obviously took form and fitness in2 consideration as well. Has any1 else done this over a longer period of time or more extensively? Ur always hearing about guys who always seem 2 score against the same teams so this could b a way for us 2 beat the bookies. Maybe not the best example but I remember Jorge Cadete used 2 always score against Aberdeen, lol

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Jonathan, I tend to look at stats and past meetings on a week-to-week basis and sometimes trends pop out. What about Skacel to hit two against Hibs when that game comes round.

  44. Bingo 11 years ago

Jonathan I think you’re defo right it is a good way of beating the bookies by putting on goal scorers. I clocked your Vernon tip yesterday and wish I’d listened to your advice… I ended up going with McGinn 5/4 (didn’t score), Benteke 6/5 (scored), Walcott 2/1 (scored) and Lambert 5/4 (didn’t play)… So if I’d listened to your advice I woulda had a treble. On Sunday I tipped on this site Van Persie 15/8 who had scored 5 on his last 2 visits to Stamford Bridge, Bale 6/4 against his old club and Suarez 7/4 due to Moyes noising him up and they all stoated in. Players with good records or playing against their old teams is a good way of looking at it. I’ll be sticking with it for the rest of the season. Just look at the prices and you’re not relying on teams winning. I actually also looked at Scott McDonald last night cause he was against Martin O’Neills side. Wee factors like that are worth considering for goal scorers I think.

  45. Paul 11 years ago

Thank you all boys for seeing my point about changing bets , think we all know now . I see student has apologised and that’s the proper thing to do , still can’t see it being a mistake , no way …..BUT. I shall drop this subject now . Helping each other win is more important .

    • student-tipper 11 years ago

Paul, sorry again it was a hot-headed moment, especially staring at arsenal being 4-0 down. Sincere apologies to everyone again, won’t be happening again. Don’t want to bring it up though so would be good to drop it now, for everyone’s sake. sorry.

  46. Jonathan Grieve 11 years ago

Yeh I’ve seen u’ve been doing well with goalscorer bets Bingo, think if u put a bit of thought in then u can come up with some good ones. I’ve not been doing it for very long but its a promising start anyway………for 2night I’m going with Vucinic 1st goal e/w for Juventus v Bologna. He has a good record against them, especially if u go back 2 his time at Roma. Also, going 2 go for Dean Shield 1st goal e/w for Rangers v ICT. Again,if u look at his time at Kilmarnock he has a good record against them. Rangers will b well up for it too

  47. Jonathan Grieve 11 years ago

    *Shiels

  48. John 11 years ago

I’d like to know more about this goalscorer thing, could be a fun bet for tonight :-)

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

John, think of it in similar lines to an each-way first scorer bet. It’s something new, we’ve been putting up anytime scorer bets here from the start, like Charlie Mulgrew for Celtic last night. It’s tougher tonight because of the questions over line-ups. Suarez and Mata are two I don’t expect to start.

  49. Bingo 11 years ago

John it’s the way forward. Anytime goal scorers. Don’t know if the betting shops have coupons for anytime scorers though. I do most of my bets online where you’ve got so much more choice. You can obviously just write it on a bookies slip but I like to see what prices I’m getting. You should give it a go. All you need is a few strikers to score and you can usually get a nice return. So for example tonight Vucinic for Juve is 4/5, Shiels for Rangers is 7/4, Mata for Chelski 15/8 returns £71 for a fiver stake and you’re not relying on teams winning just your picks getting a goal in the 90 mins.

  50. Paul 11 years ago

    Like it bingo

  51. John 11 years ago

Was thinking of maybe Dempsey for spurs, Suarez if he’s playing and Hernandez for united, one local bookie does have a coupon but only at weekends for premier league, just have to do it the old fashioned way…have to see the line ups first though

  52. Jonathan Grieve 11 years ago

Adding Hernandez 1st goal e/w as a show of commitment 2 my new theory, lol. He did improve his already impressive record against Chelsea at the weekend after all. And he should start 2night I’d imagine

  53. Bingo 11 years ago

Your picks look good John and I reckon they should start maybe with the exception of Suarez. Suarez is 4/5, Dempsey 5/4 and Hernandez 9/4. A fiver stake at Willy Hills returns £65.81. Others worth considering Cavani for Napoli 10/11, Milito for Inter 10/11, Klose for Lazio 10/11 and di Natale for Udinese 8/11. Look out for penalty takers also.

  54. Striker 11 years ago

Apparently Will Hill will void anytime scorer if your player doesn’t start, (even if he comes later and scores) but bet365 and PP will still pay out if player scores as a sub, but return stake if he doesn’t come on at all.

Anyone know if this is the case?

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Striker, that’s the rules. Some firms have diferent rules to others and they work both ways. For example with Hills if you back an anytime scorer and he comes on after 85 minutes and doesn’t score you will be refunded. But if he comes after an hour and scores you won’t win because it’s still void.

  55. John 11 years ago

What time do the line ups usually get named anyway? And where do you go to get them in time to stick a bet on?

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

John, line-ups usually confirmed about half an hour before kick-off. You’ll get them on the bbc sports site and if you listen to radio 5. Also club sites and other news sources such as Sky will have them.

  56. mr broke it 11 years ago

    Btts tonight

    Norwich v spurs
    chelsea v man utd
    rangers v inverness

    maybe add
    Kalmar v norrkoping
    Parma v roma

  57. John 11 years ago

Last night i wrote Benteke, Giroud and McGinn on a slip but never went through with it…lol

  58. Bingo 11 years ago

It’s Serie A tonight Mr F not Italian Cup. So all the big guns I mentioned should be starting if fit…

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Bingo, of course it is. It’s cup games everywhere but Italy and I’ve written that in the piece about to be published.

  59. John 11 years ago

Just done a small stake on the both to score line, really must look elsewhere as i got 8-1 odds on it

  60. Owen Scott 11 years ago

Re the rules on Anytime scorers. It works both ways I suppose. Nothing worse than your player coming on in last 5 mins and you know he’s not going to even get a chance to score and your bets down but its a sickener if he comes on and scores and your bets void.

  61. Craig alves 11 years ago

Paul, wit happens mom betting if player doesn’t start, comes on as a sub or doesn’t even play. Guessing all bets stand as that’s why there’s early prices but not 100%

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Craig, a non-runner’s a non-runner in football. If he doesn’s start you’ll be refunded and the sub rules will vary depending on the bookmaker. There aren’t many if any football markets where bets stand when you don’t have a runner.

  62. David Paterson 11 years ago

Going by some of the goalscorer tips on here today, av went for this. Thanks to all who mentioned these.

    Lucky 31 .20p stake £6.20

    Hernandez first scorer E/W 15/2
    Vucinic first scorer E/W 10/3
    Shiels Anytime 7/4
    Michu anytime 11/4
    Holt anytime 9/4

    Returns £766.92

    Also tried this

    Little First scorer E/W 6/1
    Shelvey Anytime 6/4
    Sturridge anytime 6/4
    Novikovas anytime 4/1
    Real madrid -3 11/5(used to be 3/1)

Put them on as an acca as one bet but managed to put it on as an acca but as 5 bets dnt get it masel but the 1 bet returns £1,260 for £1.80. And for the 5 bets at 0.40p stake it returns £407.

Bit of fun, but lets hope one of them wins haha C’mon

  63. Striker 11 years ago

Cheers everyone regarding the anytime scorer start/sub thing. I put my bets on bet365 and they pay out if sub scores, you lose bet if he doesn’t, and refunds if he never comes off the bench.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Striker, it’s good to know the rules before you place a bet. It would be easier if all firms played by the same rules though.
