MONDAY was a no bet night ahead of busy cards on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Unfortunately most of Tuesday’s matches across Europe are in cups so team news is vital.
Hamilton entertain Aberdeen in the Premiership and I’ve posted a separate preview.
There are five games in the EFL Cup – Arsenal v Reading, Liverpool v Spurs, Newcastle v Preston, Bristol City v Hull and Leeds v Norwich.
Liverpool with no European football should field a stronger side than Spurs but that’s reflected in the price of 4-6.
Arsenal should be too strong for Reading even with a changed side while the other two are tougher to call. If Bristol City play a full-strength side they could surprise Premier League strugglers Hull and Leeds can beat Norwich if the visitors rotate as is likely.
There is also a full National League programme and best bets at short prices are Tranmere and Forest Green.
On Sunday night I said St Patrick’s could be worth a look at home to a Dundalk side certain to rest players after nine games in 25 days. Stephen Kenny’s squad have been tested to the limit by their Europa League campaign but managed to clinch the title on Sunday.
Odds of 4-1 and 5-1 were available on St Pat’s but they’re now a best 7-4 with Stan James so well done if you got a big price.
After much thought I’ve decided to go with Bristol City as the Super Single. The Championship side – as long as they go full strength – must have a chance of taking a top-flight scalp. Hull have lost five in a row and conceded 19 goals and on Saturday against Stoke it was 2-0 going on 5-0 as they were well beaten.
Mike Phelan’s will surely be focusing on a more important league game against Watford at the weekend and is likely to field a weakened side.
City have England Under-21 striker Tammy Abraham looking to impress and he’s scored in the first three rounds.
For the Top Treble I’m chancing Liverpool and Newcastle and adding Borussia Monchengladbach at home to second-tier Stuttgart in the German Cup. A price of 4-6 seems fair enough for a side so strong at home even if they rest some stars.
For a goals treble it’s just a one-pointer as it’s difficult to predict what will happen in the cup games especially.
