NOTHING surprised me about Europa League games – but the latest round of games possibly surpassed all previous bad sets of results.
Three of the most fancied teams – Basel, Schalke and Fiorentina – failed to win in the early games while a St Etienne side, weakened ahead of their weekend meeting with PSG, managed to win 1-0 at Dnipro.
I thought I was playing fairly safe with my Super Single of Basel to score 2+ and Dnipro not to lose but I failed in my bid to make it four Super Singles in a row.
Ironically my Super Single in the Daily Record, over 2.5 goals at Molde-Celtic, came in easily and the Super Single I said I'd post if the first won – Napoli – was also a winner. The late btts double I suggested also came up (Molde and Rapid Vienna) but unfortunately they won't be included in my stats.
I'd made up my mind to do early games for the site and hopefully add the later ones.
My both teams to score treble was unlucky. I picked three games over evens and only Qarabag let me down for a 10-1 winner.
I've said before goals are the way to go in the Europa League but you still need to pick the correct ones. WDW picks are always going to be tough in this tournament and well done to anyone who had a profitable night.
So we move on to Friday and it's the day when I can't give the card as much time as I'd like as I work on my Saturday Daily Record pages.
The only game in England sees Rotherham entertain Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. Both to score could be the shout with the Owls netting in every game bar one this season while new boss Neil Redfearn guided Rotherham to a decent 1-1 draw with Reading in midweek.
Hoffenheim v Hamburg looks tough to call between two struggling Bundesliga teams while Espanyol could be worth a look at a Rayo side who have lost their last three. Espanyol have won on three of their last four visits to Vallecano.
In France shocktroops Caen, third in the table, are aiming for a fourth win in a row when Nantes visit. Caen have won their last three to nil but have lost at home to Nantes on their past two visits. If Caen have no injury problems they're value at 10-11.
Lyon could be missing eight players for the visit of Toulouse but are still expected to win. Alexandre Lacazette returned from injury in the Champions League defeat to Zenit on Tuesday and scored but I now see he is a doubt.
Caen and Lyon should win but my only bet tonight is both to score and both teams to score at Start v Mjondalen with 12 of 15 Start games going over 2.5 goals and the home side struggling in defence and to beat the drop.
There are loads of other games to consider including Jupiler League, French Ligue 2 and League of Ireland matches and I'm sure we'll some cracking tips from the regulars.

Therefore, for the avoidance of any doubt, I take it that it is safe to place a pre match bet on a goalscorer that is certain not to play, safe in the knowledge that the bet will be considered void by B365.
Furthermore, the £50 risk free in-play bet will also be returned if it loses, even though the pre match bet has been voided.
This being the case, it seems like manna from heaven which I shall take quite happily.

I think we might see a real cracker here and I’m going a little bolder with over 3.5 goals @6/5 as I expect the home side to score at least 2 while Stuttgart are more than capable of scoring on the road with 12 in their last 6.
When you also factor in Leverkusen’s crazy 4.4 draw with Roma on Tuesday, it’s possible there are some defensive issues that Stuttgart can exploit but given their own fantastic BTTS record and conceding at least 2 on the road, I’m trying all of the highlighted selections with a fair degree of confidence.

I’d look to stagger the stakes according to price but I have no reason to doubt why Nigeria can’t stick three or four past Croatia.
I watched Nigeria against Chile the other night and they destroyed them with sheer pace and power winning 5-1.
Croatia and Chile played out a 1-1 draw previously. I haven’t seen Croatia play (that’s your warning) but I believe they would be very similar to Chile. Very technically gifted but lack the pace, height and power as the Nigerians.
It is this power which saw the Nigerians ease past a decent Chile side. Add to the fact Croatia need a win, they will need to open up and attack at some point which will leave them open to the counter.
I fully expect Nigeria to hit at least 3 or 4 even with a few changes in the starting eleven.

Northwich Vics now ground-share with Witton Albion (not sure how that works as the rivalry is/was bonkers as a kid).
Interesting to note that although Vics sit 2 tiers beneath Chorley, they were actually a lot higher up (and doing well) until a few years ago when they were demoted for financial shenanigans so maybe the gap isn’t as big as it looks.

A ‘NAP’ is short for Napoleon. Originally I think the phrase came from cards where a Napoleon was the best set of cards you could have. Translate the betting and it means the best bet you can have (obviously that’s subjective!)
