I’M STRUGGLING to think of a football match where a 40-1 underdog has previously upset the odds and come out on top. That’s the measure of the task that faces Celtic at the Nou Camp tonight according to BetVictor who go biggest price on Neil Lennon’s side leaving Barcelona with all 3 Champions League points in the bag.

Despite Celtic’s more-than-decent record away to arguably the best team in world in recent years (2 draws, 1 defeat) they’ll cause ‘shockwaves around Europe’ if they do come away with a result. Barca are defensively short, whilst Celtic are riding high. All they need to do is stop Messi, and Xavi and Iniesta and Villa and…

Still, I know enough Celtic fans who may just be tempted to part with a cheeky pound or two at odds they’ll never see again.

For me though the best value could be in the goals market. Over 2.5 isn’t worth touching at 1-4 but over 3.5 goals looks a bit more appealing at 4-6 at Bet365. If you fancy 5 or more you can have 6-4 at Bet365.

Bayern have been flawless in the Bundesliga with 8 wins from 8 and after a surprise 3-1 reverse away to BATE in Matchday 2 we can surely expect them to bounce back against an average Lille side who are languishing in 12th place in Ligue 1. I don’t like backing 1-2 shots so will wait until nearer kick-off to check the team lines. If Mandzukic starts I’ll give him a go on the anytime scorer market.

Also in Group F BATE themselves host Valencia. If form is anything to go by 11-4 on the home win looks way too big. BATE won 3-1 in Lille, they then defeated Bayern by the same scoreline. They sit top of the table in Belarus and host a Valencia side who have yet to win away from home this season in the league or Champions League – admittedly they’ve had to visit Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich in 3 of their 5 games on the road but they don’t look 11-10 shots to me.

At Old Trafford Sir Alex has already confirmed that Ferdinand and Evra won’t feature, as they’ll be rested for the weekend. He’ll still be confident his side will pick up 3 home points to Braga but I fancy the Portuguese could nick at least one goal. United have lost 7 in 4 home games in the league so far and look far from convincing at the back.

Braga scored twice in Turkey when winning over Galatasaray and although they suffered a Matchday 1 defeat at home to Cluj they had an amazing 35 attempts on goal, 23 of which were on target. If they create a fraction of those chance tonight the 3-4 on them converting one of them looks good to me.

Can’t see lots if goals in the Barcelona game. I hope Celtic get at least a draw. I agree Barcelona are obviously going to be the overwhelming favs but I think the bookies are disrespecting Celtic a little. Worse teams than Crltic have gonevtonthe nou camp and gotten a result. My heart tells me a draw but my head tells me a narrow victory for Barcelona. I don’t think there will be a lot of goals in the game at all

Sorry Chris … I disagree, with it being at the Camp Nou i can see this being a Barca romp 4 or 5 nil … wouldn’t be surprised to see a Messi Hattrick

Celtic +3 looks good to me at evens on Paddy Power, Barcelona will be happy enough with the win without feeling the need to run up a big score.

Chris it all depends on what barca team turns up. If they want to hammer celtic they will. But if they get 2 early goals then they might take the foot of the gas and just knock it around. Most teams that go there take a hammerin! sorry but can see a 4 or 5 nil to barca.

Don’t fancy Celtic to take anything, but have a great chance of scoring. Spartak scored two there after all. Therefore, some great value in fgs market: Wanyama 50/1 (Hills) Mulgrew 66/1 (365) Ambrose 100/1 (365). All guys who could score from an early set piece.

  17. Mister Mr 6 years ago

Oh no lol I’m not a Celtic fan but football is a funny game. Absolutely anything can happen and we have all witnessed that at some stage

  18. robert miller 6 years ago
