Oct 21: Mr Fixit’s Top Tips

MRF_TopTips_Marathonbet

THE Europa League proved the usual minefield but it was good to see plenty of winners on the site.

There were loads on the comments section and it was one winner out of one for Greg Browning and Jordan.

My Zenit and over 2.5 match goals Super Single won but fair play to Dundalk for putting up a great fight. They’ve been a revelation in Europe this season.

The second Super Single was taken only because it could have been a 100th Francesco Totti goal for his coach in his 100th European game.

It seemed written in the stars he’d score but instead he was credited with two assists as Roma threw away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 with Austria Vienna. If I hadn’t spotted those stats I might have gone with Robin van Persie to score on his return to Old Trafford which I flagged up at 3-1.

Sometimes you can do too much research and it was my downfall on the both to score treble which in the end was beaten by Athletic Bilbao. I had planned to include the Rapid Vienna v Sassuolo game but left it out when I read the Italians’ top scorer wouldn’t play.

That’s the way it goes sometimes and in betting it’s best not to have any regrets.

Tonight we have one game in the English Championship and Birmingham tempt at around 2-1 at Burton. In La Liga it’s Osasuna v Real Betis and in Germany Hamburg entertain Eintracht Frankfurt.

Monaco entertain Montpellier in France and Greg, Jordan and others have put up thoughts on France Ligue 2 as well as the Jupiler League games in Belgium.

There are also League of Ireland games with Cork needing to beat St Patrick’s to keep the pressure on champions-elect Dundalk.

I’ve decided to go with two trebles – one of my own and the other a combination of Greg and Jordan’s tips and one of mine. If you simply want to do an over 2.5 goals treble on Greg and Jordan’s that pays 2-1 at Marathonbet.

I’m increasing the odds with Pacos Ferreira v Nacional. The last three meetings have gone over 3.5 goals. Four of Pacos’ last four matches have gone over 2.5 and it’s the same with four of Nacional’s last six. So statistically there should be goals but if you want to play safe take the 2-1 option.

My treble starts with Monaco, unbeaten in 20 against Montpellier, at home to their rivals. Add Birmingham, whose boss Gary Rowett returns to former club Burton, not to lose and complete the treble with Eintracht Frankfurt not to lose at winless Hamburg in the Bundesliga.

Early look at Saturdays Scottish Cup matches, a few games that are unevenly matched.

    Annan
    Arbroath
    Berwick
    Montrose
    Elgin

Best price with PP just slightly better than 9/2 along with acca insurance. You could also add in Forfar and Formantine to boost the odds but i’ll stick with the 5fold.

Any thoughts or insight into this would be good

They have scored at least 2 goals on last 3 games against teams better than tours who are shipping goals for fun just now

Main bet tonight is goals in the Galway-Longford game in league of Ireland.
Galways last 5 games have saw 33 goals and they’ve scored 2 or more in 5 of last 6.
Im adding monaco- Montpelier over 1.5 to bring the price up.

    Galway over 2.5 mgls
    Monaco over 1.5 mgls

    Double pays 1.15/1

Galway over 3.5 mgls is 7/4
Galway over 4.5 mgls is 4/1

With skybet if you’d fancy a smaller stakes option.

A league is back on and there is definitely money to be made.

Fornaroli has scored 3 in his last two games against Perth and I’m backing him to score again today.

4 out of 5 has seen Melbourne city score at least two and 4 out of 5 has seen over 2.5 btts.

After seeing city destroy victory last week I was very impressed with Timmy Cahill even at the age he is he’s a class act in this league and his aggression and eye for goal will see him be a success in his final years.

    Fornaroli atgs 10/11
    Over 2.5 btts 4/5
    Cahill atgs 6/4

    Good luck

Penalties for me again tonight, i had this bet on two of last nights games, won one lost won
so i broke about even, that was on the lowest possible price of Man Unt to score a pen @ 13/2.

Tonight`s match is Burton v Birmingham.
Burton to score a pen is 10/1. Birmingham to score a pen is also 10/1
For Burton or Birmingham to miss a pen it is a massive 33/1.

At these odds you only need to get lucky now and again to show a profit.

Missed out on another Melbourne City game full of goals and Fornaroli scoring again. These night shifts…

Anyway, Fiorentina did the business in the first half and Babacar scored in the second half so thankfully I was on point last night. Haven’t been here for a while but tonight’s focus is back in the Eerste in Holland. Achilles travel to Waalwijk in the worst form in the league, losing 8 of their 10 games this season. 9 of their 10 games have seen over 2.5 goals, with Achilles contributing in 9 of 10, so trends show they can grab a goal, their defense is just too porous. Waalwijk aren’t terrific but are priced up as clear favourites tonight. They have scored in all five home games this season, conceding in four, with this market landing in three.

    Dutch Eerste – 7:00PM

    Waalwijk/Achilles BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals @ 5/6 @ 365 – 3 points

@craneguy was it you who mentioned Nimes team goals in Ligue 2 tonight? Over 2.5 goals is 5/4 which looks decent considering Sochaux aren’t normally shy of a goal themselves

    Afternoon gents

The Europa league was kind to punters last night and was pleased to see my NAP land at a nice priced 7/4 – it’s been a good week, off to Holland! French Ligue 2 games are tough to call today although will have the usual loose change on all matches over 2.5 and 1.5 goals

    Dordrecht v Almere

Both these sides having been scoring and conceding and I don’t see that changing tonight! 9 of the last 10 meetings between the sides here have seen over 2.5 goal, going for 10 from 11

    Cambuur v Oss

Poor oss, lost 8 of their last 9, and have shipped -19 goals in their last 4 games! They’ll do well not to ship 2 or 3 here! Cambur have seen 6 of their last 7 over 2.5 goals and when these two meet it goes goals crazy! 11 of the last 12 over 2.5 with an incredible 38 goals in just the last 6 meetings

Back over 2.5 match goals double 19/20 (Bet365) (NAP)

I fancy this Dutch game for goals as well.
    EXCELSIOR VS. PEC ZWOLLE

Zwolle love a btts + overs game
The last 3 games away from home seeing this happen against Ajax + Twenty, who are obviously better than today’s opposition.

Excelsior are also capable of a couple at home to teams below them this season (groningen + Heracles) and have scored in all home games this season bar the last 0-1 defeat to Roda.

H2H look tasty in this one too.

So @2.00 I will take BTTS + over 2,5 mgls.

Unless @mr-orange knows any reason to leave this game 😉

All the posted bets on the Dutch leagues look very good @philwindy . We should see some goals tonight. The only game you should avoid are the Jupiler leaders Jong PSV against Eindhoven. Sergio Leon ATGS 5/2

The home team have conceded 2 or more goals in 6/7 games. However they have scored 7 in their last 4 games. Poyet’s side Betis need points and I hope they can net against a leaky Osasuna defence. H2H’s in the past have seen goals. Will take Sergio Leon to net – scored 3 in the last 2 games so in good form (and used to play for Betis B at the start of his career)

    Graafschap
    Unterhaching

    O1.5 Team Goals Double @ 21/20 (Bet365)

Unterhaching have been good to me so far this season. Despite their best form coming at home, I’m taking them to continue their cracking record of netting at least 2 a game – something they have done in 13 of 15 league games – on the road tonight. SpVgg are an erratic side with the tendency to smash a side, then get smashed themselves (in their last 5 games they have lost 3-1 and 4-1, and won 4-0, 5-0 and 5-1). Unterhaching appear a class apart in this league though so I’m hoping they will do the business.

Graafschap lie in 16th behind 12th placed Helmond but are not shy of a goal. They average nearly two goals a game after 10 fixtures, but they do the bulk of their work at home. 12 of their 17 goals have come on their own patch, and they welcome a Helmond side whose away form is nothing of note. They haven’t kept a clean sheet away from home all season, and even conceded 3 goals at FC Oss.

    Waalwijk v Achilles 29 BTTS & O2.5 Match Goals @ 4/5 (Bet365)

I’m with @jordan on this one (though the price has shortened slightly). Despite the drubbings Achilles receive, they’re usually good for a goal. No need to add more given his write up!

After watching two Bundesliga games last week (Dortmund v Hertha and Koln v Hertha Berlin) it’s interesting therefore to see both fixtures mixed up and up against each other.
Dortmund were disappointing and had half a team out (still should have won and did a number on Sporting in midweek) where Koln absolutely destroyed Ingolstadt. I know Koln have been doing well but it was men against boys and the visitors made Koln look better than they were.
With all the injury problems for Dortmund I’d still expect them to win comfortably and they are 3/5 just to win but I’d be looking at Dortmund to net at least three and with Ingolstadt barely leaving their own half last week (apart from a last minute penalty awarded) I find it hard to see them scoring so a win to nil is most definitely a possibility (15/8). Handicap betting can often leave you frustrated but there is no way Dortmund should come away from this one without a goal or two to spare.

    Nap:
    Dortmund -1
    6/4

    NB:

I have noticed this season that the top sides are struggling to keep clean sheets (frustrating millions of fantasy football managers in the process!). Despite recording some comfortable wins, many have failed to keep even the weakest opposition out at the other end.

I decided to study the results more closely and found an angle that I feel could be profitable in the long term. The area I am interested in is the BTTS & match winner market.

Each gameweek I shall be placing a 0.5 point Yankee (11 individual bets comprising doubles, trebles and a 4-way accumulator) in which I back 4 of the ‘big 6′ teams to win whilst conceding at least once. In cases where 2 of the teams face each other I shall back the other 4 unless there are unusual circumstances like an injury crisis or an important upcoming European game. In this scenario I shall select a ‘next best’ team for my bet.

Looking at the next couple of gameweeks (unfortunately I could not find historical odds for this market anywhere), these sides are typically priced up at a minimum of around 2/1. Using these odds I have calculated the following:

    2 winners = 0.5pts returns 4.5pts
    3 winners = 0.5pts returns 27pts
    4 winners = 0.5pts returns 121.5pts

With a total of 5.5pts staked each gameweek, you are looking at a small loss for 2 winners but once you get another winner on board the profits shoot up. 4/4 and you’re looking at a big return.

I then applied these figures to this season’s matches by selecting a ‘typical’ set of 4 teams each gameweek. Of course this is open to speculation but I tried to select them as realistically as possible. The results were impressive…

    Week 1: Staked 5.5pts, Returned 27pts

Cheers Eddie, that’s a great article and makes for interesting reading. I noticed that although dated 18th October, the article appears to have been written a couple of years ago. I wonder how the statistics would compare to the current season where as I suggested, defences seem to be getting more porous… where’s my calculator?!?

I’m off to Kuwait this afternoon, i like the look of Al Qadsia over 2.5 goals at evens. Al Qadsia one of Kuwaits biggest clubs and when up against any of the smaller teams goals are on the menu.

    Has just kicked off, inplay.

    Al Qadsia O2.5 – 1/1

Weekend off to a good start!

2-0 in Waalwijk so just hoping for an Achilles consolation. I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere. Busy tomorrow so posting tomorrows bet now. Fairly straight forward. Bayern at home to Monchengladbach. Both played Wednesday night in the Champions League but Monchengladbach were away in Scotland. They still have plenty of injuries and Bayern shouldn’t struggle too much in front of goal.

Barcelona are in Valencia after their big win against City midweek. The home side are yet to keep a clean sheet on their turf this season and have conceded 3+ against Betis and Las Palmas… With Messi in fine form they shouldn’t get a couple.

I don’t usually take WDW but I’m adding Arsenal at home to Middlesbrough. If you prefer the goals treble, Over 1.5 team goals with Barca and Bayern pays 13/10 @ 365, but I’m thinking with their Champions League game, Middlesbrough will be fresher and Arsenal could struggle to wear them down. They’ll also be missing Cazorla and Xhaka so it’ll be an interesting contest in the middle of the field. Theo Walcott is in fine form and could net again, oddschecker currently down though.

    Barcelona Over 1.5 Team Goals
Bayern Munich Over 1.5 Team Goals
    Arsenal Win

    54/50 @ 365 – 2.5 points

I won’t be doing a separate thread but not sure about Rose. If he plays for them he has to fancy them but Cove have lost just once in the Highland League this season and have been pretty dominant up there in the past two season.

Apologies in advance but tomorrow I have to have a big paperwork day, sort my personal admin out. I can’t ignore it as its so important.
So I shall give a quick few thoughts on my beloved who travel away to early leaders Huddersfield.
Tuesday for the rams was a bore draw. Personally I feel we should be mopping up teams like Brentford but I don’t think either team really wanted to take hold of the match and thus it ended stalemate.
It’s a clean sheet and a point for the rams. Not exactly how I imagined it would be but its better than nothing.
We’ve been without our best defender Shackell for half a dozen matches and he’s nearing fitness, Bryson keeps making cameo appearances so he’s nearing fitness – but he did replace Hughes about 25 mins into the match after Hughes took a knee in the base of his spine. Bryson also took his 5th yellow of the season so he’ll sit out this one, however Hughes is confirmed ok. Sadly Man Utd loanee striker James Wilson was sent back to Manchester after a training ground injury which is now confirmed as an ACL.
That’s the 3rd ACL to a Derby player in 2 seasons, Hughes and Thorne being the other two.
Derby’s last 4 matches has yielded 2 draws and 2 wins and Huddersfield have had 2 back to back losses after 2 straight wins. Derby have also conceded once in 4 games and I think only twice this season has a game gone over 2.5 tmg’s. !!!
I think both teams are in false positions and whilst Huddersfields form seems to of dipped, Derby have picked up their game – but they’re still not the finished article. Not by a long way.
The only thing I’d consider looking at in this match is the under 2.5 tmg’s. I’ve not looked at the price but I’d expect it to be somewhere between the 4/7 and 8/11 mark.

good luck tomorrow folks and please spare a thought for me when I’m wading through a stack of paperwork instead of trawling stats. Normal service should resume around Tuesday.

It’s never easy to work out the standards really. In my experience the best Lowland League and Highland Leagues will beat the junior sides maybe 7 out of 10. Bonnyrigg beat mid-table Turriff in the last round after a replay so should be fairly close.
