JOHANNA KONTA'S impressive run at the Wuhan Open was ended yesterday by Venus Williams who now faces Roberta Vinci in the semi-finals today.

It's a battle of the veterans and although Vinci has lost all three previous meetings the 32-year-old Italian stunned Venus's sister Serena in the US Open semis last month to wreck her bid for the calendar Grand Slam.

Former world No.1 Venus is 11-18 favourite at Marathonbet who make Vinci a 20-13 shot and over 2.5 sets pays a tempting 6-4 at Paddy Power.

The other last-four clash sees Garbine Muguruza chalked up at 11-10 by Stan James against Angelique Kerber (8-11, bet365) while there's men's quarter-final action from Shenzhen and Kuala Lumpur featuring the likes of Tomas Berdych and Nick Kyrgios.

At the Rugby World Cup defending champs New Zealand face minnows Georgia with the All Blacks evens at BetVictor and bet365 on the minus 64 point handicap.

There's also Pro12 domestic rugby as well as international Twenty20 cricket – India v South Africa – among the sporting highlights so post your tips and chat here and good luck with your bets.

Just awakened to see Smith with only 3 receptions for 24 yards in the 4th. Anybody know if he’s been injured?

Steve Smith Sr (Ravens) Over 83.5 Receiving Yards @ PP – 2 points **LOSE**

    NFL (Thursday)

    Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers

    * Baltimore Ravens over 20 points @ 10/11

    **WON**

Looks a very low total to me, the Ravens have not been as bad as there 0-3 record suggests and that steelers defence has been embarrassingly bad at times. They put 24 on the board against the bengals on Sunday and 33 against Oakland the previous week so there offense is going steady. Dick Lebeau is no longer defensive coordinator in Pittsburg as Keith Butler took over this season and the steelers are still adapting to this defense and from what I have seen of it it doesn’t look to organised to me. Expecting to see a few points being scored by both teams in what is one of my favourite NFL fixtures, I have gone against the game total though and opted for the Ravens total as im not too confident of Michael Vick making an impact so the safer option is to back Flacco and co to go over 20

This might not be everyone’s cup of tea @ 4/9 but that is the price of Adrien Broner to beat allakhv

    Morning gents

This might not be everyone’s cup of tea @ 4/9 but that is the price of Adrien Broner to beat Allakhverdiev Tomorow night, co/ral and bet/way currently have him at this price, everywhere else have him around 1/4 and even as short as 1/7

Have always said Broner is overrated but he is in a different league to Allakhverdiev and I can’t see him losing

As I said not everyone’s cup of tea at that price but it’s priced up completely wrong in my opinion and I will definetely be having a slice of that

Jordan recorded the game and just finished watching it now , Ye he got injured at the start of the 3rd unlucky on the bet , also a couple of backup recievers haven taken a knock too so there in a bad place out wide atm.

    Japan Baseballe (NPB) Treble:

    – Hiroshima Carp
    – Yomiuri Giants
    – Chiba Lotte Marines

    TREBLE pays odds of $3.60

The Carp have their Ace on the mound today, he’s won 5 of his last 6 starts. The opposition starter has not beaten the Carp all season.

The Giants also have their Ace on the mound, he has gone 5-0 in his last 5 starts. Whilst the Baystars have lost 8 of their last 10 to the Giants.

The Marines play the Eagles, whom are the worst team in Japan. They have only taken 1 out of the last 5 matchups between the 2 so should be a win for the Marines.

  11. Juan 9 years ago

Absolutely gutted…..fancied Baltimore 4/6 on the money line….seen they were 8/11 to win without OT so of course backed that instead for the few extra quid, woke up to hear they’d won and of course i was chuffed…..till i checked my balance!

  12. Attila 9 years ago

Juan – i do stuff like that all the time, lol. Tiny bit of greed results in bigger losses.
NHL Ice Hockey is a killer for the OT win…odds are always 50% odd percent higher for the win without OT…sucks ya right in, lol

  13. Juan 9 years ago

Atilla – i wanted to do -2.5 but wasnt available at the bookies i had my money with, they were only offering -3 or -3.5, so i thought i was taking the safe option – how wrong was i! Was a pretty big bet too which makes it all the worse, lesson learnt!

    My man bet for today:

    – B. BECKER to beat G. Dimitrov @ $4.00

Not sure how motivated dimitrov is in Malaysia. He was far from impressive yesterday. Whereas Becker has been knocking off big names quite easily. This match is 50/50 in my opinion so gotta take the juicy odds on Becker!

Pospisil’s fitness is so bad. Legs gone again

  16. Attila 9 years ago

Does anyone know how the ranking system works in Tennis?
Say a player keeps losing but always wins 1 set against higher ranked players, that should be more beneficial than just losing 0-2 each match? There would have to be some motivation to at least take 1 set in matches right?

  17. Attila 9 years ago

What the F is Cilic playing at???

  18. BigB 9 years ago

Great tipping Tyler mate. You’re on a mission haha! Wasn’t on it myself, had a few squid on Steve Smith over 6.5 receptions, pretty gutted he sat out the 4th aha but well done Sir!

Ffs montanes is a load of rubbish, i am done with lower level tennis

  21. Felix 9 years ago

Montanes is very erratic. Cecchinato is usually solid for a lower level clay courter. Arguello too.

  22. Attila 9 years ago

Get in there Becker! 1st set down :-)

  23. Attila 9 years ago

I’ve noticed Dimitrov had been rubbish since his breakup…hasn’t gotten over it

  24. Felix 9 years ago

Dimitrov must be playing some disgraceful tennis. Hopefully he won’t luck his way out of it again

  25. mlac 9 years ago

@picksix i would stay well away from broner m8. Allakhverdiev is all wrong for him, most people thought he beat jessie vargas but got robbed, who gave tim bradley hell in his last fight.

i will be on the over’s if i were you m8
over 9.5 rounds is a better price than a broner win @2/5

also will be all over lucas mattythese tomorrow, may be looking at this through rose tinted spectacles, as he’s my favourite boxer, but he is technically highly underrated, the only real loss (from 3) coming to a a p4p boxer in danny garcia who is now never the same fighter after pissing blood for weeks after.

‘The Machine’ is giving away a huge height and reach difference to underrated and undefeated Postol, people who might suggest backing postol would counter his stamina is top class and matthysese was in a brutal war in his last fight.

Cut down the tree with body punches, look for the machine to end this mid to late.

    matthysese 8/15 to win
    13/10 KO
11/5 decision (i think postol will be dropped 1-3 times but could survive till the end… if he has heart)

@UFC peeps what do you think of:

    benevidez 3/10
    pettis 8/15
    magomedov 1/2
    yair rodriguez 1/3

    ?

Good win. I watched the tie break and even when dimitrov was up a mini break, I thought he’d somehow mess it up.

  28. Attila 9 years ago

Cheers Felix, yeh he is Ayung in the same class as women’s tennis…messing up matches he should easily win. I’ll keep betting against him until he comes good.

Japan baseball treble lost. 2 legs won easy, 3rd leg lost by 1 run so came very close…

  31. Humble tipper 9 years ago

Felix i can’t believe he came back and won, what do you think of arguello match later? He is 5/4 outsider for some reason having come off a tournament win last week as well. I am all over the halys match later as well

  32. Attila 9 years ago

@ Humble – I never bet against Dutra Da Silva on clay. Even with Arguello’s form, Dutra can beat anyone. Just my opinion.
I’m all over Haleys as well…I’ve been on him every day since I tipped him a few days ago.

  33. Jordan 9 years ago

Tyler well done mate. Yeah questionable but reading this morning that a few teammates have said they’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t play.

  34. Felix 9 years ago

Arguello and dutra is a hard one to call. Did you Catch Dutra Silva’s match against Saez last week? I’ve never seen him play so bad. It was almost like he didn’t try at all. Saez is rubbish by the way

  35. Jordan 9 years ago

Tyler its a good thing they’re going up against the Browns next :)

  36. Humble tipper 9 years ago

Atilla dutra has messed up a few acca’s for me especially last year but arguello is in great form. I agree with felix it’s a tough call i might go 3 sets or go overs on the games line

  40. Attila 9 years ago

@ Humble – Mathieu is $1.68 with my bookie, but I see the odds are varied across different bookies. Matthieu is a deserved favourite. If your bookie has him above $2 that’s good value.

  41. Humble tipper 9 years ago

Ladborkes has marchenko as favourite i don’t know why,i am on a mathieu/halys double

  45. Jordan 9 years ago

Attila I emailed him not long after you asked and he said he’d be back soon.

NBA only a month away gents. A big shake up in trades though. I recommend you research who went where before making any picks this season. Warriors should be solid again. Houston very solid with the addition of Ty Lawson and the Spurs now have the beast that is Aldridge.

  46. Attila 9 years ago

Hey Jordan, yeh I found his email & dropped him a line as well. Am sure he’s secretly working away figuring out this years teams.
What was that run he had last season…was like 18 or 20 evens NBA NAPS in a row…awesome stuff

    MLB 4-FOLD:

    RUGBY WORLD CUP GAME DOUBLE:

    – Georgia +64.5 AND Under 80.5 total points @ $2.40

No way can I lay the 65 points here. Both teams are saving energy & players for upcoming matches. New Zealand will win easy, but I think more around the 50-60 point margin. Can’t see Georgia scoring more than 10 either which brings the Unders into play as well.

  49. Jordan 9 years ago

I’m not sure it was in a row but it was 30 out of 40 odd? Memory fades I’ve seen too many bets since then haha, Brian might be able to tell you.

Evening Guys Leeds Rhinos v St Helens

The second semi final comes from Headingley as table toppers, the Rhinos face reigning Super League champions the Saints, for the right to face Wigan, in next weeks Grand Final. Leeds are favourites to get to Old Trafford.

Leeds will be without Stevie Ward while Saints are without Travis Burns. The big news is Alex Walmsley is back for Saints and that is huge, without him they struggle to get any go forward in their pack.

Saints won 32-18 at Headingley a few weeks ago, but that form is dodgy. Leeds were coming off winning the Challenge Cup and Saints had a fortnight to prepare for that game. Leeds were also missing Kallum Watkins, Paul Aition and Rob Burrow for that match. Instead I am looking at the fact they beat Saints in the Challenge Cup semi final 24-14, won here in the league 46-18 and won at Langtree Park 41-16.

It is always dangerous to write the Saints off, however I do feel the Rhinos will be too big, too quick and too strong for Saints. They haven’t been able to find an answer to stop Leeds offloading game and therefore they have been burnt out wide. Judging by the margins of victory, I was surprised to Leeds giving up only 4pts on the handicap. It is evens at Betvictor.

I am doubts over how fit Alex Walmsley is, I suspect he isn’t 100% and with a place at the Grand final on the line you cant blame Kieron Cunningham rolling the dice. Leeds will get the ball out wide quickly like they have done all season, and if they dominate the middle of the pitch, the game could quickly get away from Saints. At some point I think the Rhinos may run in back to back tries. I am taking Leeds O4.5 tries at 11/10 Skybet.

For small stakes for a nice reward then the man of the match market is always worth a little punt. If one of the Leeds backline get a hat trick then they will get the vote over a sentimental vote. Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Peacock are both playing their last game in front of their home fans and I wouldn’t be surprised if Stevo gives the bubbly to one of these two. Sinfield is 8/1 Betvictor while Peacock is 20/1 Various.

LEEDS -4 TO BEAT ST HELENS 1/1
    LEEDS O4.5 TRIES 11/10

Good luck if your having a bet

I see the man himself has returned , how’s it Goin Huggy hope ure well buddy

  52. Picksix 9 years ago

Mlac I think broner got this one in the bag, I doubt they would of made or agreed to this fight if they thought he would struggle as he needs to bounce back. I don’t think allakdheriev is anything special and is preety mediocre , he hasnt been in the ring for over a year and a half, if broner loses this fight his careers over and I think we will still be seing him bump his gums for the next couple years at least. Broner should be in full control of the fight for 12 rounds and a landside win going to the cards I think.

Good luck with Matthysse mate one of my favourite fighters also

    Double @ 3.62

  55. mlac 9 years ago

@picksix, i agree bud, but i absolutely wont be touching it, broner will probobly win by a few rounds, i picked broner to beat porter, as he is technically far superior and that just showed me how far backwards he has gone since maidana.
He just cannot deal with pressure anymore.
agreed the ruskie has been handpicked to revive his career, but its still a 60/40 fight IMO m8.

as for GGG v lemineux, i would bet my life savings on a GGG KO. i have watched ‘le mule’s’ career since i was a young teenager, seeing his fights on ‘KO Tv’ on channel 4.
i absolutely rate him but there is a huge problem: he doesnt like getting hit.
i will be totally shocked if it goes past 8 rounds.

anyone got some ufc tips for an acca?

  64. Picksix 9 years ago

Tigers averaging over 50 points a game and there’s no reason to believe they are going to slow down against the Bulls tonight, the Tigers defence has been poor as to why im not taking the -7 point spread but going for their points total in what should be a high scoring affair. The Bulls should knock on the door but Tigers QB Paxton Lynch is another level atm and should take the game away from them
