SCOTLAND’S No.2 Mark McGhee is one of those needing a lift this weekend – but he’s unlikely to get it at Parkhead.
Motherwell were the last team to win at Celtic Park in the Premiership last December with Louis Moult scoring two in a 2-1.
Since then they’ve lost 7-0 and 5-0 and prior to the victory went down 4-0. All that’s missing is a 6-0 – and for speculators that pays 25-1 at Winner as does an away victory at Coral. In the current climate I know which 25-1 shot I’d prefer to back.
Leigh Griffiths will relish the chance to show Well boss McGhee and Co what he can do after being snubbed for both qualifying flops against Lithuania and Slovakia.
But he will he be given the nod at the expense of Moussa Dembele or even given an outing alongside the form man?
While Griffiths was warming the bench Dembele netted in two outings for the France Under-21s and is 3-1 with Coral to score first. Griffiths is the same price. Both are 8-11 to net at any time.
Moult is 7-2 with Coral to add to the two he bagged at Parkhead last year.
Aberdeen were in good form before the break and should beat Ross County at home for the fifth time in six attempts.
The Dons are going for five wins on the bounce and are a best 4-7 at Marathonbet against a side missing first-choice strikers Liam Boyce and Alex Schalk. With those two missing Aberdeen to win to nil at 29-20 with McBookie is worth a look.
Hearts should win at 8-15 with McBookie against a Dundee side that’s lost three in a row but the loss of winger Sam Nicholson for three months is a blow to the Jambos hopes.
In the Championship Jack Ross takes charge of St Mirren for the first time as they welcome Dundee United. Big things are expected of Ross after his good work at Alloa and Saints will be boosted by last weekend’s win at Hibs in the IRN-BRU Cup.
New-boss syndrome should ensure Saints don’t lose and that pays 10-11 at Ladbrokes since they are as big as 3-1 to win. A safer bet could be both teams to score – that’s come up in Saints’ last six and five of Hibs’ previous six. Bet365 go a best 4-6.
Hibs are winless in four after a flying start and may have regrouped after the break. Neil Lennon’s men travel to a Raith side with one win in six and I’m tentatively on the away at 17-20 at Ladbrokes.
In League One Alloa start life without Ross at Brechin and it should be a goal-laden game. Take over 3.5 goals at 2-1 with William Hill.
Elgin did us turn at Edinburgh City last week to bring up the four aways at 12-1 and they look big again at Montrose at 11-8 with McBookie.
Next up for Edinburgh are Clyde at home and you have to fancy the Bully Wee at 7-10 with Ladbrokes.
Bets to Consider
Dembele to score first
Aberdeen to win to nil
Hearts/St Johnstone/Aberdeen treble
St Mirren v Dundee Utd btts
Brechin v Alloa over 3.5 goals
