RESULTS pretty much went to plan on Monday night and I was relieved to land my Top Treble after a series of near misses.
Russia and Sweden -1 came in early and I was waiting on Slovakia at Luxembourg. I advised 0.5pt cover at 1-0 and was relieved I’d done so when the Slovakians nearly let slip a 3-0 lead.
It was all right on the night though and with 4pts advised my profit was 7.5pts to just about wipe out the early October losses. I’d have been in profit without the advised cover.
Now to tackle the Super Single losses. I risked 1pt on Artem Dyzuba to score first for Russia at 4-1 but he wasn’t on target.
Greg was unlucky with his over 1.5 goals double with a Cesc Fabregas missed penalty on his 100th appearance for Spain being his undoing. However, with Spain scoring so early it was an easy cover for anyone who so wished.
My advice to Greg, who has an outstanding hit rate, is to carry on as normal and if anyone doesn’t like the odds quoted they can add a selection for more risk or pick their own bets.
Tuesday finally heralds the end of the Euro 2016 qualifying groups and I for one will be glad to see the back of them. Six nights in a row is five too many.
All eyes will be on Holland who need a miracle to clinch a play-off spot after a horror campaign that has saw them lose four times – including twice to Iceland.
At times it has been like the Danny Blind leading the blind and tonight the Dutch must beat already qualified Czech Republic at home and hope Turkey lost to Iceland in Istanbul.
A Dutch win is possible but short at 1-2 and the Czechs will be eyeing top spot in Group A. However, I don’t see the fired-up Turks going down to Iceland who can also finish first. Turkey are 4-7 at William Hill to beat a side who threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home to Latvia at the weekend.
Elsewhere the big game in Group B sees Cyprus entertain Bosnia with both sides plus Israel battling for a play-off spot. It’s in Bosnia’s hands after an impressive 2-0 over Wales and while I’d be happy to back them at 4-11 with William Hill the better bet could be both to score after Cyprus surprised the Israelis 1-1 in Tel-Aviv at the weekend.
Israel must win at Belgium to have a hope and that’s unlikely. Wales are through but should finish with a flourish at home to Andorra. Real Madrid haven’t asked for Gareth Bale to be rested so if he starts consider him to score first at 2-1 and I’m starting the Top Treble with Wales -2 on the assumption they’ll not be too weakened for what should be a party atmosphere in Cardiff – again if you can hold this one until Bale is a confirmed starter.
In Group B the top two meet with Italy facing Norway. Anything but an away win will allow Croatia to leapfrog the Norwegians into second spot by beating Malta. That has to be the banker bet of the night against a side with just two points and I’m adding Croatia -1 to the treble which can be completed with Italy to win.
The Italians beat Norway 2-0 away and are unbeaten in 49 qualifiers. By all accounts they’ll put out a full side with top spot on the line and as long as they do they should win.
Croatia are no bigger than 1-8 so consider them at minus two at 6-5 with boylesports and while that was a possible Super Single I’m taking a chance on Bromley who have been mentioned a lot on the site recently.
Bromley were brilliant at the weekend as they battered Barrow 5-0 and that’s six wins out of a seven with just a blip at Tranmere when the 4-0 scoreline flattered the Prenton Park men.
Cheltenham, with just one win in five, are one point ahead of Bromley in second so it should be a cracking contest and anyone who doesn’t like the home team could consider both to score or over 2.5 goals but while four of Cheltenham’s last five have brought up that market Bromley have won their last two at home without conceding.
In the six-match form table it’s second v ninth and Bromley look overpriced at a best 11-5 with bet365. It’s so big I’m happy to go Bromley draw no bet for the Super Single at 11-8 with Skybet.
