THERE'S a cracking week of tennis ahead with all the top 20 players in the world turning out at the Shanghai Masters.

Andy Murray, up to world No.2 for the time being, plays his first event since his Davis Cup heroics and is third favourite at 7-1 with Paddy Power to reclaim the title he won  in 2010 and 2011.

Novak Djokovic, fresh from claiming his sixth China Open crown at the weekend, is evens at Betfair while defending champ Roger Federer is 7-2 at BetVictor.

This morning's opening round features Jo-Wilfried Tsonga versus Tommy Robredo and Nick Kyrgios against Andreas Haider-Maurer while there's plenty of WTA action from Tianjin, Hong Kong and Linz.

The Monday night NFL match sees San Diego Chargers host Pittsburgh Steelers with both sides having won two and lost two this season and there's more Stateside action in the MLB and NHL.

Post your sporting tips and chat here and good luck with your bets.

Well done the Pats and the Packers great picking early in the week Jordan back on track mate!!!!!

  2. Ad 9 years ago

    It’s Roger @ 7/2 for me.

Novak has done back to back Beijing and Shanghai twice before (I think) but when he’s come up against Federer in Shanghai after winning Beijing he has been beaten 2-0 both times. Those were both semi finals and this time he will have to go a round further before he meets Federer. Fatigue really should give fed the edge there as he is playing well enough right now to beat Novak over three sets even if they were as fresh as each other.
No guarantees the 34 year old will make it
To the final of course, but I’m putting my faith in the old master and the SABR!

In Linz I like the winner of Beck v Schmiedlova to
go Deep and put in a surprise title bid. It’s not the most daunting draw and a navigable route. Beck is brilliant indoors when she really gets her game going, and Schmiedlova has form and talent enough to go well here too.
    25/1 beck
    16/1 Schmiedlova

    Take Your pick!

Or of course tell me who fancy instead this week!

    NFL (Sunday)

Kansas City Chiefs @ Minnesotta Vikings

    * Minnesotta Vikings -3.5 @ 20/21

With Jamaal Charles out for the Chiefs with an apparent ACL tear there season is basically finished in my opinion. Although not confirmed yet his injury looked preety bad. The Chiefs offense is more or less solely based around Charles, when he got taken of against the Bears they came back to win the game and were outscored 15 – 0 wich shows how reliant on him they are. The Vikings on the other hand have been impressive this season after a poor start against the 49ers and were unluckly not to come away with a win on the road to the Broncos last week. There defence is improving and watching the Chiefs strugle last week in the red zone and being restricted to only FGs against the Bengals there going to have a hard time getting points on the board against this defence. Vikings are coming off a bye week with an almost full strength team and this ever improving team should put the Chiefs to bed at home where they have won there 2 games in Minneapolis this season by double digit margains

    MNF – Steelers @ Chargers

Without Big Ben it’ll be Mike Vick at the helm once more so they’ll be keeping the playbook simple and won’t take any risks with quite an important conference match up with both sides sitting with a .500 record. The Chargers have given up at least 27 points at home this season to below par sides so far, Detroit Lions (0-5) and the Cleveland Browns (2-3). They’ll see another strong offense that can put up points despite having their starting QB out, they still arguably have top of the top 3 players in their league in the skill positions in receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell.

The Chargers have given up the 29th most rushing yards over their first four games with 128.6 per game. Le’Veon Bell only has two games under his belt after dealing with a suspension, but in those games he has 282 yards from scrimmage, 191 yards rushing with 91 receiving yards. Vick targeted Bell 7 times against Baltimore for 21 receiving yards and 129 rushing yards last week.

Total scrimmage yards given up by the Chargers to opposing teams running backs.

Week 1 – Lions – Ameer Abdullah 94 total yards
Week 2 – Bengals – Gio Bernard 139 total yards, Jeremy Hill 41
Week 3 – Vikings – Adrian Peterson 126 rushing yards, no receptions
Week 4 – Browns – Isaiah Crowell 125 total yards, Duke Johnson 116 total yards.

You could argue only one of those backs is in the top 5 in the NFL (Peterson) and that’s without any receptions, with maybe Jeremy Hill in the top 10. Other than that, two of those backs are rookies, and the Chargers are now up against one of the most dynamic backs in the league in Bell. I think the Steelers can put points on the board tomorrow as they’ll be getting another big weapon back in Martavis Bryant who is a legitimate deep threat, so San Diego will have a lot of problems to take care of if they can keep it simple for Vick. However I think Bell will be the biggest threat with a lot of short throws out the back field which he can easily take for 20 yards or more with his elusiveness, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he got most of this total on the ground.

    Le’Veon Bell (Steelers) Over 125.5 Rush & Receiving Yards @ 10/11 @ Ladbrokes – 2.2 points

  8. Jordan 9 years ago

Cheers gents hope to keep it that way. Will be on the Packers again next week with San Diego coming to the Lambeau on a short week. Screams another win in my opinion.

  9. Johnb 9 years ago

2 out of 3 this week for my Nfl tips, only loser was the Nap as Dallas turned out to be far worse than even I expected

New England though scored over 28.5 points at 5/6 & New York Giants scored over 24.5 points at 1/1

I also put up New York Giants as my season Nap to win the Nfc East title at 9/4 & they are now 13/8

I also like my college football and I now think it’s time to tip Michigan Wolverines to win the BCS CHAMPIONSHIP

Michigan are now a team transformed by Jim Harbaugh, after a season opening loss to Utah the Wolverines have won their last five games scoring 160 points “average 32 a game” & conceding just 14 points
Michigan have also just achieved their third consecutive shutout & but for a 4th quarter touchdown it could have been 4 shutouts

Up next for Michigan is Michigan State in the Big House and it has to be a Wolverine win as at the moment Michigan Wolverines are playing better football than BCS favourites Ohio State

    NCAA (college football)

Michigan State at Michigan (Saturday 8:30pm)

MICHIGAN -6.5 to win on handicap 10/11 ladbrokes

    Bcs Championship Winner

    MICHIGAN 14/1 paddy power

    Heisman Trophy winner

    TREVONE BOYKIN 12/1 paddy power

Leonard Fournete is the hot 4/7 favourite to win the Heisman Trophy but don’t give up on Trevone Boykin just yet

Great work on the NFL picks Jordan – was on them, new to betting on the NFL but adds some excitement to my Sunday nights

  15. Rivers 9 years ago

Great write up on the Chargers game, Jordan. You’ve pretty much nailed the problems for San Diego. Outside of Corey Liugit, the Chargers defensive line is a horrible wish mash of failures. At inside linebacker Donald Butler has gone from one of the best in the league to a guy afraid of the game. Alongside him, Manti Teo has become an excellent NFL ILB with one small problem… he can’t offing tackle! And against Bell that isn’t going to go well. If these two start for the Chargers then Jordan’s bet looks a good one. It might be that Denzel Perryman starts in place of one of them and he is a brute of a run stopper. Problem is he is nowhere near ready for the NFL so playing him will help in one area and blow us apart in others.

There are quite a few prop bets that I like today. The Chargers have an excellent group of cornerbacks and with Vick playing in place of Big Ben, I like the under on Antonio Brown. If Verrett plays he will cover Brown and that will be a great battle. I think Verrett has given up less than 100 yards on the year and that’s covering Calvin Johnson and AJ Green. If Verrett plays, take Antonio Brown under 84.5 yards at 10/11.

My next bets revolve around the tight ends. First, Heath Miller for the Steelers will go over 29.5 yards at 4/5. The reason for this is the Chargers cornerbacks can cover Brown, Bryant and Bey so look for the Steelers to attack the middle of the field. Tight ends have had good games against the Chargers this year, so the 17/10 on a Miller TD could be a nice price too.

Onto the Chargers tight end, future hall of famer Antonio Gates is returning from a 4 game suspension, probably with a chip on his shoulder. He looked leaner and meaner than he has for many years in training camp and despite his age, he is still Rivers no.1 target. That is helped further for two reasons; 1- The Steelers cannot defend tight ends this year and 2- The Chargers only have two fully fit WR’s and one of them is called Dontrelle Inman. Malcom Floyd might play but he suffered a pretty serious concussion last week and Stevie Johnson is out. Monday Night Football, Chargers vs old foes Steelers with a returning hero. Everything is setup for Gates to steel the show. For me, the Gates over 44.5 yards is a no brainer at 10/13, as is the anytime TD at evens. But my bet of the night is Gates 2+ Touchdowns at 9/1.

    Good luck

Pittsburgh Steelers at San Diego Chargers

Antonio Gates is back and will be back with a bang
Pittsburgh struggle with tight ends and they don’t come much better than Antonio Gates

Attila- koulakova is less of a minnow than Konta (she was top 20 pretty recently) she is just crazy as hell and has slipped well down the rankings.

Konta isn’t at a stage where you can count on her to win matches like this. A 1.15 favourite? Those are truly terrible odds!!

  44. Rivers 9 years ago

Woah I should have looked on PaddyPower before putting up the Gates anytime bet. He was evens at 365 but a whopping 7/4 at PP. That is an incredible bet.

I also see the line for Brown is 70.5 yards at PP as opposed to 84.5 at 365. I would still be confident at 70.5 but the 84.5 is a good bet for me. Verrett is a straight up stud, so long as he’s healthy.

    That’s Antonio Gates (Chargers) & Le’Veon Bell (Steelers) Both to score a TD @ 7/2 @ Skybet – 1 point

    Nfl Monday night
One bet for me tonight, can’t trust Michael vick Antonio brown will be wide open whilst vick is scurrying around in pocket taking sacks, only hope for pittsburgh is to dump off ball to bell and ask him to do it on his own, he is jn my fantasy team tonight so expecting a big performance from him but he can’t do it on his own and unless vick suddenly remembers how to play well pittsburgh are in trouble. Vick is 4-17 against the spread as he just can’t get the job done. I think there is lot to be said to for West coast teams hosting east coast teams the time difference seems to affect them, I 100% believe that my vikes would have got the job done against 49ers if it was a 6pm kick off rather than early morn match the jet lag for want of better word seems to play havoc with some teams and with San Diego getting 3pts for home field advantage well that’s how I look at spreads anyway then I expect San Diego to come out on top. For a scorer it has to be Keenan Allen. He had a slow start but since the 2 tds against my boys he has got better so it’s San Diego all way for me

Bets San Diego to win -3
Keenan Allen wincast at William Hill 9/4

  61. leecunliffe 9 years ago

Joe Antonio brown is one of the best in business but I don’t think vick is good enough qb to find him often enough, would need him to break off a 50 yard td to make it happen and vick ain’t a qb to be trusted his past has ruined him and don’t know how he even has a job in nfl after what he has done. With big Ben under centre brown is always going to do well but soon as he was out I dropped brown from my nfl team and won’t have him back.

If Watkins and McCoy are still out I’ll be taking them. More than handled themselves in the comeback against Seattle and the Bills haven’t been good at stopping the pass recently. Jordan bengals were much better than us, I think we were lucky to hang in with them. Not many teams make a comeback like that against us too I was impressed by that. Dalton is firing all round and there ground game is explosive too as long as the bengals are not on national TV in the US where Dalton always seems to choke the Bengals will be tough to beat this year

Evening Guys MNF Pittsburgh @ San Diego

San Diego are banged up on the O-line and it will depend on how well Phillip Rivers gets the ball out of his hands. This Steelers secondary is there to be taken apart and Rivers threw for 358yds and 3tds last week, in week 1 he threw for 400yds and in between them he as thrown for at least 240yds. Antonio Gates is back and he his Rivers go to guy over the years,

I like him to find the end zone tonight and cover his line. Gates is 6/4 anytime Skybet and O44.5yds 10/13 at Bet365 he is one my props. My second is San Diego to score O2.5 Touchdowns at 4/6 Bet365. They have 7tds in 2 home games.

For the Steelers much realises on RB Bell and WR Brown, although I suspect Vick will look for Bell out the backfield and Miller over the middle. I like Markus Wheaton to cover his line at 28.5yds 4/5 Bet365. He is averaging 19.5yds off just a few catches and has gone over 20yds twice already this season.

    Anytime Scorers

    GATES 6/4

Tyler it is mate. I think Bell would probably have his total if Big Ben was playing. To say he’s gone backwards a few times I don’t need much. Keep him pounding it.

  97. Jordan 9 years ago

Aye Right he’s probably the best all round back in the league.

  98. Danny T 9 years ago

Vick is awful is there anyone worse inthe NFL ?

  99. Picksix 9 years ago

Danny atm probably not but maybe geno smith

believe it or not he used to be sh*t hot , the original dual threat QB of this era anyway

  100. Danny T 9 years ago

I need a bell touchdown but the concern is they arnt getting anywhere need the end zone

  101. Jordan 9 years ago

Yeah there is surprisingly Danny haha, and Bell could stll score yet. Already had a 32 and 25 yard gain. Almost found the hole on his first big gain. Thought he was taking it to the house.

  102. AshburtonGrove7 9 years ago

Anybody fancy anything on the in play market for second half off the nfl ?

  103. Danny T 9 years ago

It’s not often I would utter these words without sniggering like a child but come on bell !!! :-)

  104. Jordan 9 years ago

    Ohh Matron

  105. Jordan 9 years ago

Tyler that’s exactly who I meant haha

Ashburton not really a game where you bet in play. Not me anyway. Game can change so quickly.

  106. Jordan 9 years ago

This Chargers o-line will struggle in Green Bay on Sunday.

  107. thechief 9 years ago

Danny, you wouldn’t think there is anyone worse than Vick, he used to be good before injuries and off field “issues” but my old mate Oh no Geno is worse than him, he is that bad when one of his team mates found out he may be starting the opening week, he smacked him on the chin and broke his jaw!

  108. thechief 9 years ago

Decent first half, thought there would be more points to be honest. Bell looking good. I feel sorry for Gordon that Chargers O line is dire he cant get anything going, he is trying to run through the eye of a needle.

  109. Danny T 9 years ago

Hahaha really smacked him because he was that bad ? That’s funny . I haven’t been following this sport long but i can’t believe how bad Vick is must have been some kind of injury lol

  110. Jordan 9 years ago

Yeah I’m enjoying this one chief. Like you thought we’d see a few points for either side but didn’t think Vick would be this bad. Gruden just mentioned that Landry Jones. He had a good pre season and surely anything is better than Vick at the mo.

  111. thechief 9 years ago

Danny, Not 100% it was because Oh No is that bad, but he is dire and it makes sense :) Vick when he was in Atlanta was the first over all pick in the draft, he went to numerous pro bowls. He was an exciting QB as he made numerous plays with his legs, then injury struck and his disgusting off field issues, father time caught up with him.

  112. Jordan 9 years ago

It was over money I believe.

    • thechief 9 years ago

My Version sounds better mate :D

    • Jordan 9 years ago

Haha it does and on another day it wouldn’t surprise me.

  113. Picksix 9 years ago

That’s bells yards as long as he doesn’t go backwards now

  114. Jordan 9 years ago

How about you just leave Bell in the wildcat Mike? Could probably pass better than Vick. Big Ben itching to get out there.

  115. thechief 9 years ago

I was surprised they didn’t start him when Big Ben went down as he been there longer than Vick, maybe they was hoping Vick could give them a spark, that 3rd quarter flew by and Vick did nothing.

  116. AshburtonGrove7 9 years ago

nice one jordan am on your bell yards tip but was too late to get on the touchdown double, was tempted to back steelers @ HT but this game looks like it could go either way so steered clear

  117. Picksix 9 years ago

What is going on? Why is vick throwing the ball I can’t even believe I’m watching these play calls

  118. Picksix 9 years ago

I don’t like Landry Jones I don’t think he’s any good and he is what he is wich is a 3rd stringer but Hes worth gambling on as Vick has just been poor

  119. Danny T 9 years ago

I could throw an elephant further than Vick than throw the ball

  120. Jordan 9 years ago

Knows more of the offense than Vick does and can probably complete a pass. Vick has 8 yards since the first quarter. Shocking.

  121. Jordan 9 years ago

    Pahaha

  122. thechief 9 years ago

There goes Wheaton :) Great throw by Vick

  123. Johnb 9 years ago

Said it earlier, Pittsburgh can’t cover tight ends and Gates is one of the best tight ends
Think those two bets are the easiest I will ever have in football but they didn’t take much finding 10/13 & 7/4

  124. Danny T 9 years ago

Shame that wasn’t to bell instead like

  125. Jordan 9 years ago

Nice one chief with Wheaton. That could seriously hurt my bell yards mind!

  126. Danny T 9 years ago

I forgot to mention I am the national elephant throwing champion ;-)

  127. thechief 9 years ago

28.5yds somebody tomorrow at Bet365 is getting OH “C’mon Man” :D

It should be done as long as he doesn’t start going backwards. No apologies for using last season cliché’s with new guys joining the thread, may as well throw them out there ;)

  128. Jordan 9 years ago

    Well done Johnb.

Wonder what odds you’d be getting on that double odds if the first TD scorer scores twice..

  129. thechief 9 years ago

Cheers mate, still think Bell will have a say in this yet

  130. Jordan 9 years ago

Don’t go backwards, don’t do backwards.

  131. Picksix 9 years ago

Lol crazy how u can be absolute sh*t for 3 and a half quaters and suddenly get things going in the final 6 mins

  132. Picksix 9 years ago

Vicks going to the endzone here

  133. Jordan 9 years ago

Hand it off to Bell he’ll take it home.

  134. Jordan 9 years ago

Hand this off to Bell!!!!! Youve got a timeout!!!

  135. Danny T 9 years ago

    Wow just wow

  136. Picksix 9 years ago

What a game, Chargers are a shambles should have put this game to bed

  137. Jordan 9 years ago

    TD LE’VEON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  138. Danny T 9 years ago

Awesome Jordan mate . Had bell anytime . But some how managed to mess up your two touchdown double with bell and brown not bell at games damn you sky bet and my wrong button pressing . Never mind profit for the night with bell :-)

  139. Jordan 9 years ago

    Le’Veon Bell (Steelers) Over 125.5 Rush & Receiving Yards @ 10/11 @ Ladbrokes – 2.2 points **WIN** 127

    Antonio Gates (Chargers) & Le’Veon Bell (Steelers) Both to score a TD @ 7/2 @ Skybet – 0.5 a point **WIN**

  140. Picksix 9 years ago

    NFL

    * Le’Veon Bell Over 98.5 Rushing Yards @ 10/11

    **WON**

Nothing fancy about this one everything points to Bell having a big game tonight against the Chargers who have been hopeless stoping the ground game. I expect a big game from Bell and like him to get a couple TDs too

  141. thechief 9 years ago

Another Great Night of NFL, well done everyone with their winners, the sports thread the home of the winners!

    Anytime Scorers

    GATES 6/4 WON

    Prop Bets

    CHARGERS O2.5tds 4/6 LOST
    GATES O44.5yds 10/13 WON
    WHEATON O28.5yds 4/5 WON

Props yards were well over in the end and Gates was a popular choice by everyone. Roll on week six :D

  142. Danny T 9 years ago

Great stuff chief Tyler Jordan and everyone again this evening oh and johnb this has been a great sport to get an interest in :-)

  143. AshburtonGrove7 9 years ago

great shout on the touchdown double .. just checked my account and was in such a rush to get on in time i backed bell over 102 rush yards instead of over 152 rush/receiving yards as i inteded .. Happy days

  144. thechief 9 years ago

Jordan, I said Bell would still have a say in this game, well done mate, Picksix well done mate, and Danny and too all the other winners tonight. Nite all

  145. Jordan 9 years ago

Didn’t quite expect it chief but when they got to the goal line I got a tad happy haha, fair play to Vick for that drive. Not the first time he’s won a game in the 4th :)

Well done gents. Brilliant all round.

That’s two TD doubles I’ve won from the last play of the game. Both Steelers players haha

  146. Rivers 9 years ago

So I can blame you lot for Vick turning into a competent NFL QB? Nah, I blame Brandon Flowers, gone way downhill since he was paid.
