THIS weekend’s fixtures look difficult to call so goals bets could be the way to go. Here’s Selectabet’s take on where we can expect to see goals galore.
Bury v Scunthorpe – Both Teams To Score 3/4
League One’s two highest scorers meet on Saturday when second-placed Bury host top-of-the-table Scunthorpe at Gigg Lane.
With over 30 goals between them in their opening 10 matches both sides know the route to goal and they’ve each conceded on average a goal a game so it looks like we could see some goals in this one.
Just a point separates the two sides so there’s unlikely to be much between them, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if it finishes all square. Which is I’m keener to back both teams to score rather than over 2.5 goals, or either side to score 2 or more. My thinking is that both might settle for a point a piece if the sides are level going in to the final stages of the match.
Back both teams to score at 3/4.
Norwich to Score 2+
After a sickening defeat at St James’s Park in midweek Norwich need to pick themselves up and go again. Two late, late goals for Newcastle stunned the Canaries who had three points in the bag with just minutes to go, but Alex Neil’s side will be aiming to bounce back when the visit Wolves on Saturday.
Mr Fixit shared a stat with me that 70% of Norwich matches away from home featured 3 or more match goals under Alex Neil. That’s quite a statistic and I’m taking Norwich to net at least two of them. Goals have been a feature of Norwich’s matches this season – 34 scored in 10 games while Wolves matches have seen 26 scored.
I expect Norwich to win at Molineux and they may need to score at least 2 to do so so I’m backing them at over 1.5 goals.
Notts County to Score 2+
After a slow start Notts County are making steady progress up the table and go in to their home match against Morecambe looking for a fourth successive win in the league. Former Blackburn striker Jon Stead is leading from the front with nine goals this season, five of which have come in his last three outings.
Opponents Morecambe are just a point behind County but they appear to be heading in the wrong direction. They’ve won just once in the last five although they have scored in each of those matches. They’ve shipped 18 goals in 10 matches – the joint highest in the division – keeping just two clean sheets.
