WALES are battered and bruised but full of confidence after beating England as they head into today's World Cup clash with Fiji.

Warren Gatland has already lost a clutch of stars to injury and is forced to make three changes today, including a first start for full-back Matthew Morgan, in the Pool A tussle where the Welsh are 1-6 at William Hill for the win.

Fiji are 6-1 outsiders at Paddy Power while Wales to be winning at half-time and full-time is 7-17 at Unibet and the hosts -14 points in Cardiff is evens at bet365.

In the day's other game France tackle Canada in Pool D and are evens on the -38 point handicap at Paddy Power and Stan James.

British tennis sensation Johanna Konta stunned top seed Simona Halep at the Wuhan Open yesterday – despite trailing 5-1 in the decisive set – and looks for another famous win this morning when she faces Venus Williams in the quarter-finals.

British No.1 Konta is 22-9 at Marathonbet to defeat the seven-times Grand Slam champ who is 2-5 at Skybet.

There's plenty more tennis worth a punt today and other sporting highlights include Wigan v Huddersfield in the Super League so let's hear your tips and chat and good luck with your bets.

Australia to win against England on Saturday (5/4)

England to be eliminated at the group stage (11/8)

Look a good shout to me, any rugby boys about today?

  9. Gunner 8 years ago

Yeh I’m on the Aussies to win which would knock the Poms out should Wales win today. Martin Johnson has been trying to play down the significance of the game but its huge!

England could be the first host nation not to make it into the knockout stages. Pressure will play a big part and personally I just think the Aussies are a better team.

Gunner, I am glad we are on the same boat.

As much as I want England to do bad because of Lancaster’s idiotic selection policy), it is going to be so embarrassing haha.

England have an openside that is not an out and out 7, Australia will have 2 of them playing. Barrett’s ability to play centre is about as excitig as watching paint dry. All on top of the fact that they have problem securing their own balls in line-outs.

Think England will over-compensate the fact that their style of rugby was so dire last week that they will come out and try and throw the ball about on Saturday, which frankly, with the set of players that they have included, is a style of play that a lot of them are incapable of, at least in international level.

  13. Gunner 8 years ago

ha ha yip fully agree BigB. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

As for the Fiji game they are so unpredictable so you never know. Instead of betting on the handicap I’ll probably take them to score over 15.5 points at 5/6…or wait until in-play and see how they are going.

  14. Aye Right 8 years ago

Beck capitulated something awful. She lost the 2nd set after having numerous match points and also lost the 3rd through an unprofessional multitude of unforced errors. She deserves what she got.

Felix thanks for pointing out the obvious. I wasn’t on about how she was playing! I’m on about how when konta was behind a set and started coming back into it slightly in the second betfair and bet365 both put her close to evens.

  28. Ad 8 years ago

Haven’t seen any of the tennis but Konta fell just short of helping my double over the line.

In better news I’ve cashed out on Sousa got a tidy profit but hopefully he will crack on and bring the bacon home @ 2/1.

Good Job Ad I cleared 3 figures on Konta’s serve throughout the game.Very consistent. I see her as a top twenty player when she reaches her peak.On another note do you think Amandine Hesse can beat Kristie Haerim Ann because I sure do.Its evens for Amandine to win.

Just a little one in the NFL tonight. Not much reasoning but the Pittburgh Steelers are without Big Ben for some time so that means Michael Vick is under center. Vick was the worst rated QB that took 100 snaps or more last season so I’m worried as to how much production Antonio Brown will give me this week.

Tyler already posted a bet earlier in the week for this game which was the Baltimore points. Don’t disagree with that but I’m taking a different approach. The Steelers have given up 97 yards or more to each of their last 3 opponents best receivers and tonight they’ll be up against another veteran receiver.

Steve Smith Sr had a poor week against the Broncos in week 1, but that is no surprise as we’re now seeing that they’re probably the best defense in the league right now. Since then he has an incredible 336 yards in his last two games against the Raiders and Bengals on 23 receptions. That’s a whopping 14.6 yards per catch. With Crockett Gillmore out and draftee Breshard Perriman still injured, Smith should be in for another big night against an average Pittsburgh secondary.

As I type this I realise that oddschecker was lying. Showing PP with his total @ 76.5 but as I’ve clicked to place the bet its up to 83.5. Still the lowest out of most bookies so I’ll take that on a small stake.

Steve Smith Sr (Ravens) Over 83.5 Receiving Yards @ PP – 2 points

  42. Jordan 8 years ago

Not much reasoning but I type 4 paragraphs. Got a bit carried away :)

  43. Jordan 8 years ago

    Ladbrokes and Skybet have his total @ 85.5 @ 10/11 so for 2 yards you’re getting a better price of 0.07 :)

Afternoon Guys, Wigan Warriors v Huddersfield Giants

After frantic Friday, we have 3 pivotal games in the next three games. Two Semi finals to get to Old Trafford, and the million pound game. First up is the semi final between Wigan and Huddersfield.

Wigan were 5 seconds away from claiming the league leaders shield last week, while it was the Giants who game up six points in the final two minutes to the Leeds Rhinos which claimed the shield for Leeds. It will be interesting to see how these sides react to last weeks results.

Huddersfield were the better team but a lack of discipline gave Leeds the chance to kick for goal for the draw, then the late Hall try showed Huddersfield are still lacking that killer instinct to win the big games. They are looking to make Old Trafford for the first time. Wigan have been clinical at home this season winning all 15 home games, However there away form is poor, so maybe they not as good as people seem to think.

In the try scorer market I was surprised by the odds we got on Super league top scorer Jermaine McGilvary and he delivered and he is odds against tonight. I will be on the 6/5 Ladbrokes.

For Wigan Dom Manfredi scored 4 last week and with John Bateman set to return it will be interesting to see what Coach Shaun Wane does. IF Manfredi starts I will be on him at 10/11 at Ladbrokes, if he misses out I will be on Joe Burgess at 10/11. I cant see them both playing but if they do, Manfredi is my preference. I like that side of Wigan’s attack to cause the Giants problems tonight, that’s why I am on whoever starts on that wing.

I’m expecting a really tough battle in the forwards and who dominates upfront will be the key. George Williams was the key for Wigan last time they met, and at home with a younger pack and their home record I am taking Wigan to get to Old Trafford. Wigan to win by 1-12pts is 11/5 Stan James.

    MCGILVARY TO SCORE 6/5
MANFREDI OR BURGESS TO SCORE 10/11 (Check teams)
WIGAN TO WIN BY 1-12PTS 11/5

Good luck if your having a bet

    Rugby World Cup Pool A

    England not to qualify

    6/4 Paddy Power Betfair

This bet is effectively the same as backing Australia to beat England next week. Prices are not yet available for that bet and I feel they will cut pretty quickly when they are up considering England and Australia’s performances this weekend. England are 3rd in the group behind Wales and Australia, and only the top 2 teams will qualify for the next stage. You can rightly assume that England, Australia, and Wales will all easily beat the 2 lesser sides in the 5 team group (Uruguay & Fiji). With Wales beating England yesterday, England need to win their 2 remaining games to have a chance (they still might not) of qualifying in the top 2. Wales are fortunate to be playing Fiji on Thursday in Cardiff, 2 days before England face Australia. When (not if) Wales beat Fiji, this price for England not to qualify will definitely shorten, and the pressure on England Saturday will increase massively. England under Stuart Lancaster have been woeful under pressure, as seen yesterday v Wales and various times during the Six Nations over the last few years. I cannot imagine Australia being 6/4 to beat England in a few days time so think this price of 6/4 is great.

  51. BigB 8 years ago

Whilst I am reluctant to say this bet is certain, Wales over 29.5 looks a really attractive price right now against Fiji, really really worth a punt, even if small stake in my opinion. Good luck if you fancy a gamble.

  52. BigB 8 years ago

    Thanks Jordan, appreciate it fella!

Harry, I wholeheartedly agree with your last point! England has been woeful in any game with any sort of pressure, not just Lancaster!

Jordan – going to have a little dabble in NFL after your positive noises. Broadening my horizons. Given that it will all happen when I’m fast asleep, where’s the best place to check stats in the morning? thechief- I asked you a few weeks ago if the regular rugby league season was over,I had wigan who were third at the time, ew.You said that the super 8 points were added to the league. You can imagine how I felt after the leeds game last week, it is a big bet. When I went to pick winnings up to day they said that st helens came second, is this right.

    • thechief 8 years ago

JohnP, after the regular season, Leeds were top, Saints second, Wigan third, the Super 8 points carried over meaning Leeds won, Wigan came second, Huddersfield third and Saints fourth. It depends on what market you backed on. It was a new concept this year with, the league leaders shield only being presented after the super 8s. I would check weather the regular season, included the super 8s or not.

Yes Jordan but imo still have 2 great playmakers in brown & bell, no terrel Suggs for Ravens and real lack of depth no one to throw to for a start, Just think brown is going to be running riot tbh he’s on fire at the minute just my opinion and il take the plus 3 at evens mate. I know Vick is useless but Ravens aren’t exactly the best at getting to the Quarter backs either & if they can’t put pressure on Vick there’s not going to be too many errors lol we shall see though I could be very wrong! Only a dabble £10 stake on +3 and £10 stake in yours

  73. AJ the 2nd 8 years ago

0-3 not to great for confidence either lol

  74. Jordan 8 years ago

I hope Brown produces as he’s in my fantasy team but with Vick at QB I’m cautious. He completed 5/6 against the Rams but was also sacked twice. Both secondaries have been poor so hoping to see some big numbers through the air. Can’t back a winner myself but good luck mate.

  75. AJ the 2nd 8 years ago

I don’t really like backing winners either tbf mate, but not much going on the props market so just having a dabble, might have to keep flicking over though because I think ultimate fighters on tonight 3am haha

  76. thechief 8 years ago

    Evening Guys, Baltimore @ Pittsburgh

This used to be one of the most fierce rivalries in the NFL, a few years ago, and while the personnel may have changed, the fans haven’t and I suspect a rough and tough in your face kind of game tonight.

Big Ben is out so I suspect a heavy dose of running with Bell and Williams. Michael Vick used to be a really good, exciting QB in Atlanta, older fans will remember him burning teams on the edge and also up the middle. He as had problems away from the NFL and has maybe lost a step but is still one of the better backup QB‘s in the league.

I spoke about Baltimore ante-post having 5 of 7 opening games on the road and that would be brutal and so it has proved. It is a must win game for the Ravens and Flacco. They haven’t been able to establish the run game this season so far like they did last season.

In the anytime market I like TE Maxx Williams, who is replacing Crockett Gilmore. Gilmore maybe a new name to some but I put him up a couple of weeks ago and he dropped the ball in the end zone. Flacco loves to target his TE’s without any stellar WRs to throw to. Last week Gilmore had 3 catches and Williams also had 3 catches, both had over 40yds. I am taking Williams at 9/4 Coral.

William is also my prop bet to go O34.5yds at 20/23 Bet365. Brady and Kaepernick burnt this secondary, I put up Foles on Sunday and he fell just short in a low scoring game. In a must win game I am taking Flacco to take care off the ball and use the short passing game, before airing it out.

    Anytime

    WILLIAMS TO SCORE 9/4

    Prop

    WILLIAMS O34.5yds 20/23

Good luck if your having a bet

  77. Jordan 8 years ago

Without any stellar WR’s? First ever mad statement I’ve seen from you chief :) Said before about Maxx’ total. Watched the combine and he was the Tight End that impressed me most. 28 yard reception last week so that could be done in one throw :) Good luck bud. Great value for the TD.

  78. Jordan 8 years ago

Ok he’s no Dez Bryant but he can get the work done.

  79. thechief 8 years ago

I don’t class Ste Smith as stellar anymore mate. He was when he was in Carolina. I think he is a good NO2 but if he isn’t a NO1 anymore, not at his age, if you want to be a contender. I like Williams, I liked Gilmore as they tend to target the TE’s and he dropped that pass, so hopefully I don’t get burnt again.

  80. Jordan 8 years ago

Agree with you there but I think that’s why they drafted Perriman. Just had knee surgery too so doubt he’ll be playing much this season. I actually think Williams should shed some weight and be a WR. He’s not a huge Tight End but his catching is very good.
