JHON MURILLO – remember the name and don't send him a Christmas card.

After a rollercoaster month it took a goal in the final minute of my last match to end hopes of wiping out Super Single losses.

Murillo's late strike sunk Pacos Ferreira and I ended with a 3.5pts loss. It was doubly disappointing since it was a toss-up between Pacos dnb and Romelu Lukaku to score for Everton.

But I can't really grumble because a week ago I faced my worst month on the site but have ended in profit overall.

Choosing Pacos ahead of Lukaku proved to me how big a part gut feeling plays in betting. In fact it's just as important as looking at stats and form.

Hopefully my gut instinct is correct today but right at the outset today's card is really tough especially if you are looking for value. After hours of studying this week I nearly threw in the towel and took the easy relatively easy option of Celtic, Rangers, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City.

There's no doubt that fivefold will be popular at 5-1 with Marathonbet and some of those sides feature among my tips.

Most of the reasoning will be covered in my Scottish and English betting previews.

Scott Allot has posted European tips, Desmond's put up goals tips, Jordan's gone to Mexico and Greg will add to the nap he's revealed.

And if you're member check out Selectabet's goals bets and look out for my Bet of the Day in the morning.

Port Vale look good value at 5/4 to me. They have the best home form in the league with 5 wins from 5 and are playing a managerless Coventry side who are yet to find a win from 10 attempts! Port Vale are without midfielder Grant due to suspension but have a few players that can replace him and I don’t think this should affect them.

    Port Vale WIN 5/4 – 2 points
    Port Vale and over 2.5 5/2 – 0.5 Points

great stuff kelly – keep it up.
i’d say the first month of the season is probably the most unpredictable (hence your break even figs), so all looks good going forward. keep your discipline & all should be fine.
some of the bets you put on are eye watering tho, lol :-) i get a sweat on if i stake £20!
i’d be tempted to pocket a bit rather than stake it all sometimes on the bigger challenge bets – but you do ok lass. v pleased for you.

Will put a bit more substance to the post closer to KO when team news is finalised but I’ll be looking at Bury’s game as we taken on Scunny at fortress Gigg ?.

BTTS (3/4) and Over 2.5 MGS (evens) are both up there but I’m most likely going to go for a bit of cheeky value…BURY to score 2+ pays 13/8 and I’m on it!

Also looking at the usual suspects TNS, Newcastle and Liverpool to add for a possible team goal quad.

    Best of luck ?

  5. robf 8 years ago

Looked at the FA Cup this weekend and found a nice treble.

Ebbsfleet (4th in National League South) and on the back of three impressive league wins entertain Havant and Waterlooville (2nd in the league below). Fleet should progress at the first time of asking.

Weymouth lie in mid table of the Evo Stik Southern League but their only recent defeat was a narrow reverse at home to top of the table Slough Town. Visitors Brimscombe and Thrupp are huge underdogs being mid table in the Hellenic League, two divisions lower than their opponents.

The treble is completed by Halifax Town who host divisional rivals Stalybridge Celtic. Town have had a mixed start but are only two points off 5th with three wins in their last five starts. Celtic have lost ten out of twelve in the league, including a 0-1 loss at The Shay three games ago.

The treble pays just shy of 13/8 with bet365.

  6. robf 8 years ago

One additional non league offering is the anomaly of a price on offer in the Evo Stik Northern Premier League this afternoon. Seventh placed Ashton Utd are at home to struggling Coalville Town (20th).

Neither side has been in scintillating form of late but at least the home side’s recent narrow defeats have come against sides above them. The visitors are on a losing run of 5, including a concession of four goals and twice and five last time out against fellow strugglers Grantham.

Unbelievably the home side are outsiders at 11/4 with the away side a mind blowing 8/11. These prices must be round the wrong way. That is the only explanation. I am about to check Twitter for any other info but this looks like an early Christmas present.

Get on Ashton United at 11/4

    • HullShaker 8 years ago

Rob, good write-ups – the Ashton price stood out to me too…be interesting to see if the price sticks or is fluid during the morning.

    • bixieupnorth 8 years ago

doesnt seem to be a price offered on skybet?

    • tiptopteef 8 years ago

ashton to win 2-0 is priced @ 23/1 on betfair??
Coalville concede 2+ per game this season.
v strange odds on this game – bookies obv know something we don’t.

  7. robf 8 years ago

Hills go 14/5 on Ashton so maybe not an error after all. Twitter feed suggests they have a few injuries and caretaker managers but they only lost narrowly to second placed Whitby in midweek so a small single looks the play.

    • tiptopteef 8 years ago

all stats point toward ashton – have all bookies got it the wrong way round??
yes, they’re on a bad run, however all recent fixtures are vs teams above them & prior to this poor recent run must have played well to still be 8th in table.
small wager on ashton, agreed @robf

    • bixieupnorth 8 years ago

3-0 ashton i see, a rare mistake from the bookies, hopefully a few of us got some money back, i didnt unfortunately!

This is for small stakes only..
    -Swansea over 1.5 team goals
    -Swansea Win

I feel people have underestimated Swansea here..on their day they will beat anyone in the premier league..and after the Burnley game I feel Liverpool will be found out today

    • maccathered 8 years ago

Yeah liverpool will be found out, whatever that means, either you mean found out that this liverpool team are a good side (which after watching every game there is no doubt about that)or you mean beating arsenal chelsea leicester etc have all been flukes,if you mean the latter then you really should look at stats and that should tell you about liverpools play thus far this season.

    • kpoothegreatest 8 years ago

I mean that they give oponents too many chances in every game..and today they may concede a goal or two

    • maccathered 8 years ago

They give opponents to many chances,ok but they also create a lot of chances and score lots of goals.

    • kpoothegreatest 8 years ago

Both bets LOST!! Well done Mr.F and everybody who was on Liverpool and BTTS

    • maccathered 8 years ago

@kpoothegreatest swansea were the better side in the first half no doubts there, game of two halves liverpool rampant in the second half and this is the difference between been found out and not being found out.what we did find out though was liverpool have character.

    • kpoothegreatest 8 years ago

Fair enough..they still will be found out soon

    • maccathered 8 years ago

Can’t help but feel your either a man utd fan or everton whichever way your bitter, liverpool are not the greatest at defending but what they lack in defence they make up in attack,as long as you outscore opponents then you will win games and thats why they are where they are in the league. This found out soon business is funny.

    • welshglyn 8 years ago

Too much is made of liverpools defeat at Burnley. Liverpool battered them for 90 mins but couldn’t find the net. I wouldn’t read too much into that result however Swansea are a decent side and the early kick off should be a great start to the weekend.

Swansea would have a chance if this was a new managers first game with that new manager bounce teams get, think its happening in Germany and Spain with new managers(or caretakers) at the moment.

    National League.
    MACCLESFIELD h/t 4/5.
    MACCLESFIELD -1 4/5.
MACCLESFIELD goal before 32 mins 5/6.

SUMMARY: Macclesfield have led at half time in all bar one game on home turf thus far this season. On the other hand the ‘villagers’ have trailed in all bar one on their travels. At present they’ve struggled since promotion, and I can’t see any different today.

BARROW goal before 78 mins 5/6.

SUMMARY: Really looking forward to this match up! Complete contrasting styles, will Forest Green keep a clean sheet against a team of ‘Giants’, I’m hoping not, and a goal before 78 mins was extremely tempting for a team bang in form!

BOREHAM WOOD goal before 52 mins 5/6.

SUMMARY : The Wood are far from prolific in front of goal, but they are a very difficult outfit to play against. Today they entertain Wrexham , manager Mills is in the last chance salon, heaping pressure on his players, and demanding nowt other than 3 pts! Away from home they’ve been conceding far to many, early first half goals have been a constant theme, WOOD will look to continue this!

    DAGGERS to WIN 13/10.
    DAGGERS over 1.5 TGS 6/5.
DAGGERS goal before 51 mins 5/6.

SUMMARY : Tranmere’s caretaker boss promises to take the game to John Still’s boys, please do! If they play as open as they did against Woking last weekend goals may flow. Tranmere’s squad is somewhat depleted through suspensions and injuries, I believe the Daggers will exploit this in the late k/o.

Morning gents, Lens /Reims 7/4 double ensured it was a profitable night and for the third time this week it was 2 out 3 on the overs treble with Den Bosh the latest culprits!

It’s a tough card today – good luck to everyone with their bets ??⚽️

    Rotherham v Newcastle

Was a bit surprised when I saw the price for goals in this match, Rotherham have been the goal Kings so far in the championship with 9 of their 10 games seeing over 2.5 goals and you can almost gaurentee they’ll concede here! They are at home though and will take solace from the fact Norwich put three past them
Before an almighty collapse! That was a huge win for Rafa’s men and they’ll certainly fancy their chances here! Should see goals with both sides getting in on the act!

Back over 2.5 goals 4/5 (NAP)

    Scottish goals treble:

    Stranraer v Brechin
    Alloa v Airdrie
    Ayr v Dunfermline

Over 2.5 goals treble pays 7/2

    English goals treble:

    Afc Wimbeldon v Gillingham
    Bury v Scunthorpe
    Portsmouth v Doncaster

Over 2.5 goals treble pays 6/1

In my opinion the 2/1 for a wolves win at home to Norwich is decent…

I can see us taking something out of the game…. stats show us alternating between winning and losing so following the pattern it’s a win today ??

Not backing the Wdw market here but 5/4 on BTTS and Overs looks tasty.

    2.5 points

  28. HullShaker 8 years ago

Morning gents – interesting card and hope it’s one that throws plenty of goals our way…

    BTTS 4-FOLD:

    BURY
    HULL
    FH HAFNARFJORDUR
    THROTTUR REYKJAVIC

    PAYS 7.75/1

    OVER 2.5 MATCH GOAL 4-FOLD:

    LIVERPOOL
    HULL
    ROTHERHAM
    BURY
    ABERYSTWYTH

    PAYS 11.83/1

There’s one match that will be bringing the country to a standstill at 15.00 as the club wth the shortest name takes on the club with potentially the rudest…that’s right folks, the team that put the ‘B’ into Bury take on the team that put the ‘C’ into Scunthorpe…

It should be a belter and as good as Scunny are, we are just finding that bit more in the tank than any other team – very similar to last season’s autumnal success.

We now have a record of 6 unbeaten games and look to make this a seventh – interestingly, I read a fact that our run is a week ‘older’ than Scunny’s and has also harvested many more points than The Iron.

Jones and Maher are doubts having come off in the midweek win at MK Dons and star man Danny Major is still out with a crocked knee.

The battle for goals continues upfront with Vaughan now needing 1 more to pip Tom Pope for top goalscorer and he’s 11/2 to net first.

Numbers are up this season but as ever Bury will always struggle to attract huge crowds as there’s such a big pull on the town’s fanbase towards either City or Utd (for those with no pride or class ?) and It’s good to see we are putting on reduced prices for today’s match entry in order to swell numbers and the all important voice of the home support. Tenner for an adult, fiver for OAPs and a quid for U11’s!

I mentioned last night on another thread that BTTS (3/4) and Over 2.5 (now 21/20) both look good but I really fancy two here:

    BURY OVER 1.5 TGS…13/8
    VAUGHAN ATGS…7/4

Best of luck with all bets snd teams today ?

Some overpriced teams today in my opinion. Port Vale have won all 5 home games against Coventry who haven’t won all season.
My bet of the day Port Vale to win 11/10
Brentford Birmingham Leeds Bury and Plymouth all over priced to in my opinion

    • ged72 8 years ago

Totally agree m8 . I’ve done 2 out of your picks with a slightly riskier 1 in Crewe.

    • acsafc 8 years ago

I really fancy Leeds to win they are in good form and Barnsley slipping a bit and had to sack their assistant with alleged transfer bungs etc. Tough to predict derby games though. Don’t understand why Plymouth are 4/5 against Yeovil they should win comfortbaly

    • ged72 8 years ago

I always stay away from derby games if I can help it. At the risk of upsetting Hullshaker I think Scunthorpe are quite big away to Bury @ 31/20.

    • acsafc 8 years ago

Scunthorpe have let me down a couple of times lately I was on both of their draws. I usually avoid derby games too but feel there is some value in Leeds today.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

I agree Leeds should win but their not a team I really trust.
Liverpool been poor – need Klopp to work his magic at HT.
At least we have the Swansea goal.

You’ll not upset me ged pal – I’m nothing but impartial when it comes to betting – especially on my own team! It’s a game in the balance as reflected in the odds.

Absolute tosh from me yesterday, so can only apologise for that. Still, September ended with a good bit of profit tied up so I can’t complain. Today looks a goals card to me more than ever – actually had trouble picking out what I like most. Usually that spells trouble but hopefully October can start with some bookie bashing. I’ve come on to find most of you picking out much of the same games as me for goals. Again, usually that spells trouble, but fingers crossed it’s a case of great minds thinking alike.

    Basel O1.5 Team Goals
Rotherham v Newcastle O1.5 Match Goals
East Fife v Stenhousemuir O1.5 Match Goals

    Treble @ 19/20 (Bet365)

A bit of a hodge-podge of selections there but they’re the ones that stood out to me from the shortlist.

    Wimbledon v Gillingham
    Bury v Scunthorpe
    Portsmouth v Doncaster

O1.5 Match Goals Treble @ 11/10 (Stan James)

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure these 3 games are on the radar of all the goals enthusiasts today. DC and Greg I think put them for O2.5… That’s enough justification alone for me to take the 1.5 treble I’d highlighted this morning.

    West Ham 20/21

    Port Vale 5/4
    Carlisle 10/11

Reading v Derby pre-match summary and bits and bobs.

What a difference a number makes. I’m talking of 4-3-3 and not 4-4-2. It sounds stupid and a bit ” Mike Bassett ” – ( my hero – maybe the FA can give him the nod to fill big Sam’s vacant parking space – or is it a short stay visitors only space?? ) but that’s what happened on Tuesday. Well, it was a bit more than just the formation change, Pearson didn’t travel down to Cardiff with the squad and former derby player ( head coach ) Chris Powell took the helm. He duly obliged with the formation change and the Rams gave us a competitive 2 nil win. Well deserved. The first time I’ve said it this season. I saw the highlights and we played with purpose and closed every single ball down.

The changes at the Ipro do not appear temporary. Something cracked off at the training ground which saw Mel Morris turn up with his latest bank statement. Anyway, handbags at 10 paces. No doubt the owner used Mrs Morris’s best handbag for the showdown. I’m guessing Mrs Morris packed it full of bricks or maybe receipts for players brought since he took ownership. It resulted in Pearson not travelling with the team to Cardiff AND now his assistant manager Inigo Idiakez being shown the door too. The latest news is that Pearson has NO contact from any member of the team or backroom staff. I sense another number – ” P45 “. If Carlsberg did late team news !!!!

It is possible that it could be a false start, but for two reasons, I’m going to suggest otherwise:
    1. October/November for as long as I can remember has always been a purple patch for the rams, sometimes it starts a month early, sometimes it ends as late as January or February, but for the sake of the current point in the calendar, statistically, we have a fabulous 2 months of results. And what a shot in the arms it would be if we can back up Tuesdays result with another win.

    2. The 4-3-3 and wrong players in wrong positions. Pearson was adamant of making that 4-4-2 work, new players coming in, a few outgoings, but kept the wingbacks in play leaving an exposed central defence pairing. Since Thorne’s injury and releasing Eustace, we’ve nobody that can do that job effectively. So if the players are not there to fill the right slots, then the formation needs changing.
Powell has gone back to the spine of the old team and style we know so well. For the sake of ensuring that the problem was always with the manager and his formation, Derby have to make this 4-3-3 work. Nobody in a Derby shirt will want this to fail. IF we do, then Pearson will be walking out the door with a big payoff singing ” told you so “. Let’s not give him the satisfaction.

Reading have had some good scalps this past 7 or so games apart from an away loss to Brentford 4-1. That suggests that if they have a team show up and have a go, their back-line could collapse. Derby’s back 4 isn’t that great but we have a couple of terrific midfielders in Bryson and Hughes and a front 3 more than capable of bursting the Reading net.
We know what its like to be on the receiving end of a Reading hiding. They stuffed us 3 nil on the final game of the season 2014/15 to see us drop out of the top 6 for the first time in the final half of the season. We only needed a 0-0 for a playoff slot.

I think Derby WILL score, but the key is to get the first one. Blackburn came from behind to beat us and that was the 2nd time in 38 competitive games we’ve lost a match from a leading position.

Derby Double result is 4/9 with bet365, but since it’s still very early days, I can’t be totally confident in tipping that. I need more form/stats to back up that, BUT a very tiny Reading NO CLEAN SHEET with the same bookie is priced at 4/11. Way more confident on that.
How Derby have managed to pick their chins off the floor, I have no idea, but they have and with Bent being slapped back on the bench, we have a front-line to take off from where we left.

    Derby team:

Just one change for the rams, Max Lowe ( academy left back ) has been swapped out for the returning Olsson.

Derby County: Carson, Christie, Keogh (C), Pearce, Olsson; Johnson, Butterfield, Hughes; Ince, Anya, Vydra

Substitutes: Mitchell, Russell, Bent, Baird, Wilson, Blackman, Weimann

    5 of Derby’s 7 subs are attack minded ( 4 if you don’t count Bent )

  50. nathanufton 8 years ago

Grinning like a Cheshire cat here….

I begrudgingly fell into Ladbrokes and dropped a £10 on an acca. 4 way. Liverpool had already kicked off so I asked the shop to take the prices off the computer and the in-play price for Liverpool last.

my selections were: Man Utd, Celtic, Liverpool, Newcastle.

just as he was about to give me 4/9 for Liverpool, Swansea scored. I got in-play @ 11/10. Man Utd @ 3/10, Celtic @ 2/9 ( 15 mins in-play price at 0-0 ) then I look at my slip. stupid stupid people went and gave me 9/2 for the Newcastle win price. Just seen Liverpool equalise, then grab a 83rd min penalty – boom 2-1. Celtic win 1 nil. Liverpool just seen the game out.

Correct me if I’m wrong but since it was them that did the in-play prices, any mistake on prices is their problem should Newcastle and Man U win? Since its written down by their member of staff, it’s technically a written contract or sale of goods and services act.

      Get in there the Toon!!

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

Sorry but most people know if you’re mistakenly given a wrong price they will pay you at correct odds if it’s spotted.
Sale of goods etc doesn’t come into it.
It’s also an urban myth that if for example they put £100 on the price of a £1000 telly they must give it to you for a ton. They don’t.

Going for an early team goals treble in Germany – not the most insghtful granted but hopefully has a chance

    Munich over 2.5tg @ 1.90

Managed at least 3 in every home game so far and although Cologne are no mugs, Munich will be looking to bonce back from the midweek Champs League loss

    Hoffenheim over 1.5tg @ 3.00

Hoffenheim have scored 5 in 2 away games and they are away to an Ingolstadt who have conceded twice in both home games so far and at least twice in their last 4 in a row

    Darmstadt over 1.5tg @ 2.50

This is the risky one as Darmstadt have only scored once in each of their opening two home games but they face a Werder Bremen side who have conceded 10 in 2 away games. Even though they faced Munich and Moenchengladbach in conceding these goals, I still reckon this has a chance

Hi gents. Moreno was no good overnight in Mexico so start October with a loss. Originally I wasn’t going to post today as I hadn’t done much research, but after seeing line ups I’m going to take West Brom DNB on the road in Sunderland. I’ve been on the Baggies a bit this season whether it being to score once or twice, but today I think they have a chance at 3 points. I can’t believe David Moyes is able to work in the Premier League again and right now its showing. Sunderland have plenty of injuries and if this isn’t a stalemate, I think the Baggies could knick it.

    West Brom DNB @ 123/100 @ Marathon Bet – 2.5 points

If like me you think West Brom could win without a goal fest, West Brom Win/Under 4.5 Total Goals pays 12/5 @ Betfair, even the West Brom Win/Under 2.5 could be safe as big as 5/1 @ Betstars.

Reading/Derby, after reading dominated possession for about 35 mins, Derby start to eek out the better chances and Duly obliged with an opener on 61 mins. We’ve had enough opportunities to create more clearcut chances but the passes were just too long, but we’d done enough to win the game.
With the corners count up ( 5-4 to reading ) and cards at 2 a piece, Derby absorb a bit a pressure in the last ten minutes, possibly Keogh lucky not to concede a penalty, but Derby shoot ourselves in the foot and concede 10 seconds from the 90 minute mark.
With 2 minutes left of injurytime and at 1-1 , I can’t help but feel that we’ve been robbed of 2 points. A shame because we’ve done enough for all 3 points. It has to be seen as a good point away BUT I still feel shortchanged.
We’ve just had an injurytime shot at their goal cleared off the line too…. aaarrgh.

On a plus point when Mr F was looking for a winner in the championship, I felt Barnsley could be ripe for the taking – and cue Leeds 2-1.
On another plus point, Newcastle won 1 nil, with ladcrooks writing out the wrong price of 9/2 !!! lmfao. Just Man U to do the biz for my 4 fold to cha-ching them since Liverpool and Celtic won earlier doors.

Massive South American card tonight and I initially narrowed it down to 8 games for closer inspection.

From those 8, I’ve now picked out the 3 I’m most confident in and have cross-reffed stats, H2Hs, etc to come up with 2 bets for each: ‘A’ being a really solid chance, with ‘B’ offering slightly more value but still solid claims!

Here’s the 3 final picks and a condensed reasoning behind each…hope it makes some form of sense!

    COBRESOL v O HIGGINS (19.00 KO):

Of the 7 recent H2Hs over the past 3 seasons, O Higgins have score 2 or more goals in all but 1 game. The away side have also scored 2+ in their last 2 league fixtures.

    A. O H OVER 1.5 TGS…EVENS

Way out my comfort zone on this one but Queretaro look a good bet tonight in Mexico. Look decent at home but their opponents Santos have an awful away record with no wins in the last 10, losing 8 of them. Home win is 5/4. Hopefully somebody will tell me to steer clear of this if it is a bad un.

    Uni Catolica v Huachipato 22.00

    Over 10.0 asian corners 1.900

  93. Alves 8 years ago

    Lazio RT9 8-11

Looked at 5+ corners for Lazio at 8/11 but decided against it, 2 corners needed in 35+ mins and they lead 0-2

Been having a natter with the old fella in ward with me tonight – he’s 78 and been telling me about his playing days up at Hamilton where he’s from.

Don’t know wether it’ll ring any bells with any fans but he’s called Eddie Martin – played in late 50’s early 60’s and talking about playing alongside Wally Ferlie, Charley Tollie and Bobbie Collins.

Top lad but cannae understand a word he’s saying ?

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

I’ll ask the Record historian about him.
The other three guys I’ve heard of although I don’t think the names are quite right.

    • HullShaker 8 years ago

Haha sorry Mr F – just reported your comment ?…names won’t be right as combination of Eddie’s accent and my spelling!

Kendog – been in for a wee bit but hoping to get out soon enough – you know what these penis reduction ops are like.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

Hope you’re all right – you haven’t been coming across as a patient.
Bobby Collins is a famous ex-Scotland international as was Willie Fernie.
The other name is probably Charlie Tully, another famous ex-Celt.

Hullshaker I hope your not in hospital? Defo one of my favourites here dude. Keep up the good work!

    Catolica v Hauchipato…BTTS

    **WON**

If anyone’s after an in-play have a look at the Paraguayan game – Caballero went 1 up on the stroke of ht but I’d fully expect Guarani to have plenty to day anout that in the second 45 – you can have them at 3/1 for the win ?
