IT was obvious from Wednesday's bets I was trying to claw back some September losses with an attempt at an 8-1 Super Single and 12-1 Top Treble. In contrast my SS in today's Daily Record was Man United but there are no stats to worried about.
The fact they both lost wasn't a huge surprise but I was disappointed with my 6-1 goals treble beaten only by Sevilla and on this occasion there was no cover available. Well done to all those who posted winners – including Greg with his nap – and there were plenty with Atletico Madrid's home defeat to Benfica the only surprise result.
So after a good August I've followed it with a disappointing September and will be going all out to make October a profitable one with maybe more emphasis on goals bets than WDW. It's clear – and it has been for some time – it's easier to win on goals bets but plenty of people like the challenge of picking a result.
The new site will be launched sometime this month – possibly as early as next week but as you may have noticed there have been a couple of server problems and we want to make sure they're resolved before hitting the start button.
Talking of goals Thursday is Europa League night and without firm team news I'm reluctant to put up any WDW bets. I've posted a preview of Celtic v Fenerbahce and fancy over 2.5 goals in the game at 10-11 with William Hill. In the other Group A game I'm tipping over 1.5 Ajax goals at Molde.
A weak Liverpool side which drew 1-1 in Bordeaux and a similar line-up is expected with Daniel Sturridge not in contention. Divock Origi, Alberto Moreno, Kolo Toure and Jordan Rossiter played in France and could feature at home to Sion. Liverpool should beat the Swiss but the price is too short.
Spurs face a better side than Sion when they travel to Monaco. The Frenchman have been scoring and conceding plenty on the domestic scene and could be worth a look depending on the strength of side Mauricio Pochettini puts out.
Meanwhile, I put up two Saturday Super Singles on West Ham yesterday and enjoyed the debate about whether they were a good thing at Sunderland or not. It's important we have our own opinions because I'm putting up tips not guarantees.
If anyone has important Europa League team news post it here and we'll see if can beat the bookies with a team effort.
I was reluctant to put up any tips tonight but having seen Celtic are starting with Efe Ambrose at centre-half and young Kieran Tierney at left-back I'm on over 1.5 Fenerbahce goals. Robin van Persie starts and could give Efe nightmares.

Greg, online punters are in general younger so possibly more tuned in to goals bets.

Funny thing was odds were so good on btts – I think Betfred went 5-6 each of 2 on every game – that some bookmakers considered withdrawing the market because they were losing so much.

Mr.F, i think you and Greg are spot on when you say the dynamics of betting are changing. People are becoming more aware regarding statistics and doing some research. We see Dutch teams struggling in Europe for the last couple of years. The Dutch league is getting weaker every season and the best players leave at young age to foreign clubs, making the league very weak.
Ajax results in the league look quite good but when they meet decent opposition in Europe they look bad. They conceded 5 against Rapid Wien in CL qualifiers and conceded 2 in their first home EL game against Celtic. Molde have a decent team and I think they will able to score a goal at home on their plastic pitch. They scored 3 away at Fenerbache in their first game.
Braga won their first game 1-0 away at Liberec and played a strong team. Groningen lost their opening game 3-0 at home to a second string Marseille team. Most of Groningen players have never played in Europe and their captain Rasmus Lindgren is injured. I think Braga can score 2 against this Groningen team who conceded so easily in the first game. Braga scored 11 in their 3 league games at home this season.

Greg, Mr F – I think you both hit the nail on the head. I think goals bets are more popular with younger punters – i.e. online – as goals bets tap into a more care-free “optimistic” mentality for lack of a better word, i.e. your bet never properly feels over (obviously 0-0 89 minutes being an exception). Simply wanting goals in the game – that’s to say, a positive mindset – as opposed to picking sides will likey appeal to a younger person’s attitude.
Just some thoughts and might be totally stupid but I find the whole psychology of betting fascinating.

Anyone looking for a value Goalscorer bet should look no further than Nir Bitton. He scored the first goal against Ajax in Celtic’s last Europa League game and came close against Hearts at the weekend. He also scored twice this year in the Champions League against Stjarnan and Malmo so that’s 3 goals in Europe this year. This makes Bitton too big and at 28/1 for first goal and 11/1 anytime, Bet365 are taking a risk. Talking of goal bets, they worked out nicely for me last night. Was an Atletico to win. Benfica were all over it at half time (1-1) and the over 2.5 goal market was 4/11 not fantastic odds as I know most of you like evens but it was enough to cover my loses when Benfica got the second.

I don’t think Fenerbahce can win against Celtic.Their defence is very shaky and they concede but they have a stong upfront with Diego Nani and Van Persie .Markovic started to play better past 2 matches but he is injured. I think btts is a good bet.

Morning all. I said last week that Greg and others convinced me that goal bets are profitable compared to wdw. The odds for individual games can be big odds on but put into doubles up wards can be good returns. I put all the games I have selected into Flash Scores. When the matches come in I delete them. On Tuesday I did an accumulator of 13 games to have two or more scored. By 9.39 pm I was left with the Brentford v Birmingham game stuck on one goal. When the alert went off on my tablet I thought that it was to signal the end of the match. Very pleased to see that Birmingham had nicked a second goal deep into time added on.
Ok it took 13 games to get a return of 16.8/1 but the advantage is any team can score for you. I expected Fulham to get the two I needed but Wolves did the job.
I have been very successful with this bet and I have been mug punting for years. Now it’s level stakes for fun and the bet goes on until the final whistle.
Those who have been giving money to the bookies for so long that it becomes normal, please take a look at the regulars on here who post goal bets and also explain the reasons for the choices made. Stick with it and you will be pleasantly surprised.

I quite like the look of a few teams on the -1 handicap in tonight’s Europa League ties tonight.
Napoli -1 : Napoli got off to a flier in their first game of the group stage and a nice win against Juventus recently will only improve confidence. Although European away days are often tough, I can see them being free scoring again this evening.
Schalke -1 : Schalke welcome Asteras Tripoli on the back of a four game winning streak in the Bundesliga, with the away side struggling for form in a weak Greek league. Although Schalke have not been prolific in recent games, they have enough quality to win this one by two or three goals (likely to be to nil).
Dortmund -1 : Again, another German team who I fancy to find the net tonight, albeit away against PAOK. Dortmund have scored 13 goals in their last four away matches and have also been free scoring at home. PAOK have a decent home record but I believe Dortmund have enough about them to win -1.
Other’s that I am still undecided on are Fenerbache -1 away against Celtic and also FC Basel -1 at home to Lech Poznan. I will probably wait for the team news before committing to the bets but I think that Fenerbache have enough attacking prowess to expose a weak Celtic defence and FC Basel average over 2.5 goals at home whilst their opponents average 0.5 away.

Hi Mr fix it… I was just wondering why you always choose to advise to cover your bets rather than to advise cashing out… As the west brom game at 2-0 at that stage of the match you’d of been looking at 90% of your profit reached… As you’ve been unlucky late on in a few bets this month I think cashing out rather than covering would be a better option…
Murphy, if you weren’t new you’d know I advise looking at both options.
In my experience it’s cheaper to cover as most cash-out offers are weighted in favour of the bookie.
It depends on the result really – with West Brom leading 2-0 and Everton playing rubbish I was covering the possibility of a collapse but not expecting it.
Also cash out isn’t always there and plenty of bookies don’t do it all while any bet can be covered.

Dortmund started the season off in tremendous fashion, but in the last couple of games they have looked really poor. They barely beat Krasnodar in their last Europa League home match and drew their last two Bundesliga games against very weak opposition (Hoffenheim and Darmstadt). They face Bayern on Sunday away from home and that game is of paramount importance to them. Not available in today’s squad: Aubameyang, Hummels, Kagawa, Sokratis, Gundogan. PAOK are a very decent side with very strong home support in Athens. They generally do quite well in Europe and take this competition seriously. Interesting fact: Since 2000 they have lost only 1 Europa League home game by more than one goal. Dortmund without crucial players, focusing on Sundays game and @ 11/20 to win the game? Completely off…should be way above evens given the situation. Massive value on PAOK in my opinion.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried a BTTS – NO selection but this one looks really possible based on the those bizarre stats for Legia although the Poles domestic form is very much counter intuitive with each of their last 7 seeing BTTS.
It’s not a bet I personally like, in terms of excitement but based on the stats it has to have a chance and with Legia not drawing in 23 EL fixtures, the odds are that one of these teams will sneak a narrow win so under 2.5 goals is also likely at 4/5.
Napoli’s away form is pretty poor with no wins in 7 on the road and I can’t back them to win here so the only selections I like are the BTTS – NO pick at 10/11 even if it’s not a common bet for me and under 2.5 goals which seems fairly likely as well.

Final Verdict
We have some fairly remarkable stats suggesting that BTTS is very unlikely here, considering both sides record in Europea fixtures in the last 2 years.
I don’t think I’ve ever tried a BTTS – NO selection but this one looks really possible based on the those bizarre stats for Legia although the Poles domestic form is very much counter intuitive with each of their last 7 seeing BTTS.
It’s not a bet I personally like, in terms of excitement but based on the stats it has to have a chance and with Legia not drawing in 23 EL fixtures, the odds are that one of these teams will sneak a narrow win so under 2.5 goals is also likely at 4/5.
Napoli’s away form is pretty poor with no wins in 7 on the road and I can’t back them to win here so the only selections I like are the BTTS – NO pick at 10/11 even if it’s not a common bet for me and under 2.5 goals which seems fairly likely as well.

Don’t think Rosenborg should be marginal favs to beat Dnipro. The Ukranians are a very good side and went close to winning the trophy in May. Rosenborg have been poor for many years now so I’m on Dnipro at 15/8 and Dnipro draw-no-bet at Evs.

Europa league is a bit of a minefield, can’t resist having a small bet though so going for 4 draws.
Rosenborg v Dnipro
We know Dnipro are a good side but the only away game they won in the Europa League last season was against Qarabag (which was admittedly a good result). Rosenborg sit top of the Norwegian league and the only loss they have suffered at home in the last year was in a europa league tie where they had already won the away leg. Should be tight, 1-1 draw sounds about right to me.
Celtic v Fenerbache
Celtic are in general strong in Europe at home but I can’t imagine the stadium will be near full capacity tonight. a 3-1 defeat in the first round of fixtures would have hurt Fenerbache and they will need to get something from this. A score draw looks likely.
Molde v Ajax
Molde were a bit underestimated when the groups were revealed. They haven’t performed overly well in the league this season but the 3-1 result against Fenerbache shows that they are ready for Europe. Ajax don’t travel all that well and only drew 2-2 against a Celtic side they were expected to beat. Molde are missing Eleyounossi through suspension which will hamper them slightly but I think both sides would take a draw at the end of this.
Club Brugge v Midjylland
Club Brugge have been flying at home so far but I think that looks better than it is as they couldn’t really have hoped to face better teams. Midjylland showed their quality in eliminating Southampton and have already beaten Legia Warsaw at home to start the group. I was tempted by a bet on the double chance but not confident enough to put a decent sized stake on it.

Young Lions have amazing away form (all season’s wins have been away from home). Are now 2-1 up away coming from 1-0 down, hope they can hang on, as on the away win at 7/4, and over 2.5 @ 8/13 (WON).
As I said skipping today so looking at tomorrows card I like Celta Vigo at home. Prior to their 1-1 draw at Eibar last week they had scored two or more in all of their first 5 games, scoring 3 or more in 3 of the 5. They are the top scorers in La Liga and remain unbeaten through 6 games. Destroying Barcelona 4-1 in their last home game they’ll have another good chance of 3 points with Getafe visiting who have lost 4 of their 6 games, and on form are the worst away team so far this season, losing all 3, conceding 6 and only scoring once against Bilbao.
Vigo have conceded in 5 of their 6 and h2h would suggest that Getafe should nab one, but their away form this season does worry me. They haven’t failed to score against Vigo since 2006 and although Vigo are the top scorers, they are tied for conceding the most goals in the top 8, surprisingly the same total as Barcelona.
Promoted side Las Palmas managed to score three here and with Vigos consistency to ship a goal or two I think Getafe may score. Vigo will obviously have goals in them scoring 3 or more in all 3 home games, so for that reason I think over 2.5 goals should be a decent bet. 5 of the last 7 between these two have seen over 2.5 with both scoring, with 3 of the last 4 at the Balaidos seeing Celta win with both scoring. 5 of Vigos 6 have seen over 2.5 goals with 3 of Getafe’ games also going over. Think that trend will continue tomorrow.

My approach to the Europa League is to always focus on corners as opposed to results/goals due to the shear unpredictability of it all. I also have a routine of looking in-play at matches once a period of 25 mins has elapsed as IMO this is when you can possibly see the early signs of how the match will play out.

Augsburg are struggling at the wrong end of the Bundesliga, while Partizan are 3rd in their league.
Augsburg have only won once so far this season and this is their 1st season of any European competition…Partizan as regulars in europe and have the experience and knowledge to deal with a team they know they can beat.
Personally I was embarrassed when I had to endure watching United in the Europa League. Those back to back losses against Bilbao. I can still see Llroente slotting home that volley past De Gea…

I do think it is ridiculous the way people don’t give this competition any respect now. I don’t like that they play it on a Thursday but ANY European football is brilliant fun for it’s fans and as a Rangers fan, I have few better football memories than us qualifying for the final in 2008.
Ryan I’ll echo that sentiment and state that my trip too Seville in 2003 for the UEFA Cup Final was the highlight of My years following my beloved Celtic even if it did result in a heartbreaking loss in extra time too Porto in the final who went on too win the CL the following season. It’s a memory that will be hard too emulate in future years. It was a pleasure too watch a work class striker in Henrik Larsson score twice in that final

Fact. I’m not having a debate on the Europa League being prestigious. It’s an awful competition which only offers a place in the Champions League next season and some silverware to show it. On the topic of the Europa League it’s a strange one. I’m sure if you asked supporters of West Ham they would have loved for the club to have taken it more seriously. If you ask West Ham’s board they would argue that a better finish in the Premiership is greater financially for them.
Nobody can deny that success in Europe comes at a cost in the Premiership with tired players and a misjointed schedule with many games moved to the Sunday which doesn’t help.
Unfortunately the idiots who design the Champions League and the Europa League decide to throw all the money on the Champions League where teams can earn £1.5m for every win in the competition.
As a result the Europa League gets sacrificed and the only teams that take it seriously are teams from Kazakhstan and the like. Success in this competition isn’t worth the financial gains with the prize money and all the travelling involved compared to finishing three places higher in the Premiership.
Its this inbalance which infuriates supporters who aren’t familiar with Europe. Just ask supporters of Hull and Southampton.
The last teams I remember taking it seriously were Leeds and Middlesbrough (look where they are now).
As a Wolves fan I would love nothing more than an away day in Europe. Somewhere like Germany or the Czech Republic. Which begs the question well why don’t teams take the cup more seriously to get this European place?
The truth is nobody wants to embark on long trip to Kazakhstan as part of pre-season to progress to the second round of a six match qualifying campaign to get into the initial group stage.
Spurs seem to have been in it year after year and have never got close to winning it. Will they ever take it seriously? No. They’d rather rest players to ensure they compete as strongly as possible to try and break the top 4 and who can blame them?

Unfortunately Mr H whether we like it or not football is a business now. The difference between success and failure is huge.
A Premier League team’s priority now (aside from the top 6) is to ensure they are still playing Premier League football next season. If that means playing weakened teams in cup and European competitions then so be it.
Unfortunately it is this fear that results in teams seeing the Europa League as being a burden and an inconvenience.
The money that teams are throwing around in the Premiership nowadays compared to the Championship is extortionate. Take West Brom for example. West Brom have been sitting in the Premiership for the last several seasons. 80% of that time they’ve flirted with relegation but I bet there isn’t a player in their squad that isn’t earning less than £30k a week. West Brom are seen as a shrewd and sensibly run club.
Championship clubs (who don’t have the luxury of parachute payaments after relegation) are probably paying there players on average £10k a week.
So dropping out of the Premiership is a big no no for chairmans and that is why so many managerial sackings occur when clubs are around that bottom 3. Panic sets in when the unimaginable gets ever closer.

Well said Craigy. Apart from the teams that have qualified through the fair play rule, what would the teams that have finished just outside the Champions League places rather want? Slug out a competition next season to perhaps maybe get a Champions League place at the end of it, or not be in it and focus primarily on a better league position than last year and hopefully a Champions League spot? I know what I’d choose.

I completely agree about the Europa League being low priority in board rooms up and down the country as it’s not a financial opportunity for them compared to each additional place they achieve in the premier league.
As a fan though I’ll never forget my beloved Norwich beating Bayern Munich at their place (and knocking them out of) the UEFA cup in 1993. Best night of my life as a Norwich fan

Match goal kings Stamford play Colwyn Bay and over 2.5 is at 4/5. For those who haven’t been following in recent weeks, Stamford have played 10, scoring 28 and conceding 38 in the process! Colwyn Bay have been a bit more conservative at both ends (P12 F12 A21) but 4/5 is big for a team who average over 6.5 match goals per game in the league, regardless of their opponent! Mr H, I remember it well. I celebrated Celtic’s wins over Liverpool and Blackburn as though it was Rangers winning those games. Well, not quite but I was well pleased to see Celtic knock out two English teams.
I think it’s a modern thing to disrespect this tournament and those who think it’s a waste of time, and that the money and presige of the Champions League are all that matters are way off.
Just look at some of the great teams to win this tournament in years gone by. Liverpool in ’76, Napoli in ’89 with Maradona. Ajax in 1992, Parma in 1995, even Porto in 2003.
The only reason the tournament is less valued now is because of the farcical amount of money in the PL which makes surviving in it much more important to the chairmen. It has nothing to do with the competition being rubbish.
As with most things in modern day life, money has ruined what was a very fine tournament and it would be nice if some of the average English teams that qualified bothered to take it seriously and stop obsessing about money.

That’s what supporters of these big clubs forget. Teams like St Johnstone and West Ham and their supporters should absolutely love the chance to play in Europe and I’m sure fans of the Hammers and Southampton would have been gutted at how crap their teams played and how lacking in interest they seemed to be.
Imagine travelling to these places, as a fan, and seeing your reserves knocked out. I should think it must be an amazing experience to follow your team in Europe (can’t say I’ve ever been fortunate enough to do so).
Honestly, the money in England is making a real mockery of European football, especially when their teams either fail to take it seriously, or as is the case this season, continue to lose and look awful in the process and use the money in the Premier League as some kind of justification.
Football might be a business but the people are the life blood of the game and their continued support is taken for granted by those in power.

George, I did all CL games last night to be O1.5. Got about 5/1 for a 7fold (missed the early KO), only put a small stake on, but great when the last goals came in!
After the debate of what bets to used and seeing a post earlier (i forgot his name) about a 13old over 1.5 goals and thought I’d put it to test and 60 mins in a fivefold of 5/1 is in. I know it’s not amazing odds but I would take that every day if I could! Especially in europa league which I usually do badly!
