Nov 21: Scottish Junior Football Tips

EVERY Saturday William Hill‘s Owen Scott and McBookie‘s Paul Petrie do battle in the junior football challenge.
The dynamic duo will be putting up trebles every weekend and Owen has the bragging rights after a second win in row. His treble paid £41.19 and he’s won £120.39 with Paul still to get off the mark.
For those who don’t know anything about junior football the level of the top clubs is equivalent or in some cases better than Scottish League 2 outfits and we can gauge that easier now with the champions of the three regions – North, East and West – qualifying to play in the William Hill Scottish Cup along with the Junior Cup winners.
The term “junior” has nothing to do with players’ ages and it often confuses people outside Scotland. Some of the top clubs such as Auchinleck, Hurlford, Irvine Meadow and Linlithgow pay bigger wages than most League 1 and League 2 teams and therefore attract players who could be plying their trade at a higher level.
McBookie list all games online and take bets on every junior match while William Hill only take bets in shops.
Here are this weekend’s tips from Paul and Owen – and they could be weather-hit.
Paul writes: “First up I am backing Musselburgh to beat Petershill at evens. Last year’s finalists have a great cup pedigree and know what it takes to win difficult away ties to teams in the West Region. More importantly they are on a five-game winning streak and will be confident of another victory.

“Next I am backing Glenrothes to beat Rosyth at 8-13. My only fear is the Fife side might be more concerned with their promotion bid and won’t be too disappointed with an early cup exit. However, a Scottish Cup run is always good for club funds and will help build confidence. They should be too strong for Rosyth.

“Finally, I am going for Darvel to beat Blairgowrie at 13-10. Darvel are flying high in the Ayrshire District League so will be full of confidence and while Blairgowrie are top of the McBookie North Division I always like siding with the West teams in these types of games. It should be a hard-fought contest but they away side represent better value.”

Owen writes: “Another winning treble last week has given me my third win of the season. Again the weather could play havoc with this weekend’s cards so you’re advised to check which games are on before placing a bet.

“Like the last round of the Scottish Junior Cup I’m going for a jackpot treble by picking three matches I believe will be tight and may need settled by a replay.

“The first match is Clydebank v Kelty at 14-6 and I believe this will be a really tough match with both sides going into it expecting to be in the draw for the next round.

“Petershill v Musselburgh at 12-5 is my next pick.  It took Peasies two matches to beat Newtongrange in the last round and I feel this will be a similar scenario.

“Troon v Bo’ness at 13-5 is my final pick.  Bo’ness will be seen as many people’s favourites but I reckon Troon can do enough to warrant a trip to Bo’ness next weekend.”
