NOV 16: FRIDAY FOOTBALL TIPS

THERE are four games in the UK leagues tonight – and that’s three more than usual.

The biggest match is the SPL clash between Dundee Utd and Kilmarnock and I fancy the home men who are starting to look like their old selves.

Gary Mackay-Steven’s return and switching big Jon Daly back up front has boosted performance. The Arabs ended a five-game unbeaten run by losing 2-1 at Hibs last weekend but by all accounts they could have snatched a point.

Fit-again Mackay-Steven was on target for the second time in three games and is worth a look at 5-1 with bet365 to score while several firms offer just 5-2. For an opening scorer the man to consider could be Daly at 11-2 at William Hill.

Killie’s last away game was a 2-0 win at Celtic but they have won three and lost three of their last six so that shows their inconsistency. They’re capable of going anywhere and getting a result or not showing up.

It’s not the easiest call but I’m leaning towards United at 10-11 with William Hill and others.

Both teams to score followers should be aware that five of the last six meetings have seen just one or no sides hitting the target and seven of the last nine have been under two goals. However, I’m aware there’s been a sea change in the SPL this season with more goals than usual so it might not be right to look too much into recent clashes.

The other game in Scotland sees leaders Partick Thistle travel to lowly Hamilton on the back of a sparkling 5-1 win against Dunfermline.

If the Jags reproduce that form there’s only one winner. Look at their last three league results – 5-1, 0-0 and 7-1. That middle one, at Falkirk, bothers me slightly because it followed a 7-0 thumping of Airdrie and also Accies beat their rivals in the League Cup.

So Thistle are no certs at 4-5 with Coral against a side who are improving and won at Morton last week. But they are worth the gamble.

McBookie.com are one of those who price up SFL first scorers and the player to consider is Steven Lawless who hit a double against the Pars. He is 5-1.

In English League One leaders Tranmere entertain promotion rivals MK Dons hoping to increase the gap to 11 points.

Both sides enjoyed comfortable FA Cup wins in midweek against non-league sides so no one has the advantage of a free week.

MK Dons have won just two out of nine away from home so on that basis I’ve got to favour Tranmere who are a biggest 9-5 with BetVictor and boylesports.

Three of the last four meetings have been under 2.5 goals and both sides’ last three league games have also been under 2.5 with 1-0 a popular scoreline. Under 2.5 goals pays 4-5 at boylesports.

The League Two clash betwen Barnet v Accrington is tough to call. Both have won just one in three and it could be a draw.

On the continent the best bets could be Lille at Lorient. Despite being poor in Europe, Lille’s domestic form has picked up and they are going for four wins on the bounce.

Lorient are struggling, especially in defence, and have conceded a remarkable 16 goals in four games including last week’s 4-0 defeat at home to Bordeaux. Back Lille at 6-4 with Coral.

Recommendations

Mackay-Steven to score
(5-1, bet365)

Partick Thistle
(4-5, Coral)

Tranmere
(9-5, BetVictor, boylesports)

Lille
(6-4, Coral)

    Just stuck Mackay Steven on

    £20 ew @ 18/1 with Bet365

If he scores first I get £520 back
If he scores at any other time I get £140 back

I’d be happy with him just to score as the £100 would cover my Charlie Mulgrew bet.

Craig, yeah I thought the same. 5-1 on Mackay-Steven was huge but United losing all the same.

Chris, I think I’ll just go first as anytime is pretty short. First at about 4-1 will do me nicely.

  25. Clarks 6 years ago

Wonder if the ex player hoodoo and Niall Mcginns form will play a part tomorrow in the Aberdeen b Celtic game!!

Clarks, you have McGinn against Celtic, Mulgrew against Aberdeen and Griffiths against Dundee on Saturday.
