THE World Cup resumes tonight with the first two quarter-finals and it's been strange not having Russia 2018 in my life for a couple of days.
I'm expecting big things from both ties with France v Uruguay first up followed by Brazil v Belgium which could be the best of the four.
On a separate preview I've tipped wins for France and Brazil but the way this tournament has gone don't be surprised by anything. France will hope Edinson Cavani isn't fit for the South Americans as with him and Luis Suarez firing they can beat anyone.
Brazil in spells have been this best side in the tournament and should edge out a Belgium outfit who possibly take too man chances at the back.
Well done to all the winners yesterday on all sports including radu with 10 out of 10 at Wimbledon which is some feat. Also Johnb and Thommo posted winners on the racing.
Let's hear all your thoughts on today's ties and for Rangers fans they start the Steven Gerrard era at home to Bury with 40,000 plus fans expected at Ibrox.
Only a handful of bookies have priced this up and all go 1-3 Rangers. There are good vibes coming out of Ibrox with Gerrard making several good signings and it would be a massive surprise if his side didn't kick off with a win – although they beat TNS 3-1 earlier in the week behind closed doors. I don't like betting on friendlies but Rangers -1 should land at 10-11 with Sky Bet.

    Wimbledon tips:

    Medvedev to beat Mannarino @ 4/5-5 units (use a bookie that pays out on retirements)

    Keys, Karolina Pliskova to win AND Medvedev and McDonald to win a set- @ 11/10- 5 units

    McDonald to beat Pella @ 23/20- 3 units

    Pliskova, Medvedev, V. Williams to win, over 32.5 games in De Minaur vs Nadal @ 6.75/1- 1.5 units

    For Saturday but get on asap.

    De Minaur to beat Nadal @ 13/2- 1.5 units
    De Minaur to win a set @ 11/10- 3 units
    over 32.5 games @ 4/5 – 4 units

    • tennisace 6 years ago

      If anyone has any questions ablut the above (assuming people will doubt De Minaur)-feel free to ask.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

      Yeah would love to know the reasoning – don’t know him at all.

    • tennisace 6 years ago

      Nadal hasn’t made the 2nd week in Wimbledon in years. Its all about a name. This is a 50/50 game, De Minaur is 19 so is capabale to choking-but he must win at least a set. There is no doubt Nadal is a name which can bring chokes, but dont believe the hype just because its Nadal. De Minaur is also coached by Hewitt which is always a plus.

      Alex De Minaur is in the top 10 defensive players. Players that are better…Murray, Djokovoc, Simon, Nishikori…and they’ve all beaten Nadal.

      His serve is solid and on a grass court his movement is unreal. Especially at 19, only beaten by Murray and Djokovic pre-injuries.

      De Minaur has variety. Nadal loves to use the fact his left handed hack game to reset points. But De Minaurs variety, movement and return of serve will not allow for that. Especially with how he will make Nadal rush those topspin shots he loves, as his low shots penetrate the fast grass surface.

      This kid can beat Nadal. He has it there. There are arguments for why he won’t but Nadal being 1/10 is simply due to his name…and we have seen him lose these games at SW19 before. Value play on the ML. But this has to go over 32 games.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

      Ok cheers. Just wanted to know your thoughts – I’d never back Nadal at 1-10 on grass.
      It looks Federer’s to keep again.

    • tennisace 6 years ago

      Would agree with you.

      Del Potro only real contender who could beat him I think. Plus Kyrgios if he could lose the attitude. Zverev in years to come.

      Been a bad day so far for me, Medvedev can’t handle the weather out there.

    Quarter final picks.
    Shit odds.
    Brazil to qualify 4-7.
    Uruguay to score 8-11.
    Russia double chance 7-10.
    England to score first 8-11.

    Better odds
    Brazil win by one goal 11-4
    France btts 5-4
    Russia to qualify 11-8.
    England win by one goal 5-2.
    Correct scores
    Brazil 2-1
    France 1-1
    Russia 0-0
    England 2-1.

    Belguim lack steel needed to progress, conceding 2 to Japan says it all, great comeback the other day but Japan ain’t Brazil.

    Can see Uruguay’s defence keeping them in the tie then one of france’s subs nicking a winner in extra time.

    Russia got momentum, the crowd and a Croatia team asking to be beaten v Denmark but the Danes weren’t good enough to take advantage.
    They looked like a team playing with fear and unless they snap out of it we will see a Russia v England semi.

    England will have just enough to beat a solid but unspectacular sweden.
    If zlatan was there who knows ?.
    But he ain’t there and England will edge a nervy affair.
    England conceded every game and sweden scored every game so 2-1 seems on.

    Uruguay v France Btts 5-4 NAP.
    Russia to qualify 11-8 NB.

    The Brazil and France +1 double looks like it has the wrong odds mrfixit.

      France and Brazil are at best 1/4 for it so I still don’t understand how it can be 9/10 mrfixit.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

      Sorry, had a mare with it. Bet was France draw no bet and Brazil +1. France +1 as you rightly say too short but at least it’s still a winner.

  6. xhaka khan 6 years ago

    Right, markets are finally up. Odds are pretty low for France v Uruguay which is the one that concerns me more. So :

    Uruguay v France under 3.5 offsides, 4/9, bet365

    Brazil v Belgium under 3.5 offsides 4/5 bet 365

    I’m doing £15, £25 and £10 double but that’s just me. Please bet only what you’re happy with and don’t bet more than you can afford to lose. This has been a really successful market but that doesn’t mean its guaranteed to win.

    Gentlemen. Good luck, gentlemen.

  7. mattr 6 years ago

    I’m on the double Xhaka ?

    Also following double pays 2.62/1

    Uruguay to score
    Brazil O1.5tg

    France conceded 3 against Argentina and they were gash. Belgium conceded 2 against Japan? And they are managed by Martinez and his team’s can never defend.

    Have a good day.

    World Cup quarter final form guide
    P W. D. L. F. A. Pts

    Belgium. 4. 4. 0. 0. 12 4. 12
    Uraquay. 4. 4. 0. 0. 7. 1. 12
    Croatia. 4 3. 1. 0. 8. 2. 10
    Brazil. 4 3. 1. 0. 7. 1. 10
    France. 4 3 1. 0. 7. 4. 10
    Sweeden. 4. 3. 0. 1. 6. 2. 9
    England. 4. 2. 1. 1. 9. 4. 7
    Russia. 4. 2. 1. 1. 9. 5. 7

    So 4 of the top 5 teams are in the top half of the draw ,Belgium are the top scorers ,Sweeden are the least scorers and uraquay and Brazil have the best defence and England & Russia are the wheezy kids with a note from matron

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

      The game England lost they didn’t want to win and the game Russia lost was after they’d qualified.

  10. barman 6 years ago

    Looking forward for the semis.

    Brazil – Belgium
    All have their opinion about this game. Mine is :
    btts at second half
    Draw – penalties will decide the winner

    Uruguay – France
    Uruguays defenders know exactly how Griezman is playing. The questions are : how good will Pogba play and who will stop Mbape after the double he hit with Argentina?
    Draw at halftime is my tip.
    btts at second half – Low stakes

    Russia – Croatia
    Well, i posted that Croatia will go until the semis, they can do that, but, if Russians they knocked out the best tiki taka team, why not and Croatia? Russians have all the supporters around them and i believe:
    Draw – penalties will decide the winner
    Under 2.5 mg

    Sweden – England
    I tipped in fifa.com that the cup will go to England. A header from Kane can decide the game, or a btts at first half can easily come if Sweden play like their last game. Sweden though, dont have a Kane man to make that happened.
    Draw at first half is my top tip
    Under 2.5 mg

    Going for draws:
    2 for fulltime
    2 for halftime

    Impossible? 1 euro for a 4 hold
    Correct scores for all 4 matches: 1-1

    Good luck to all

    • barman 6 years ago

      One thought after i read that :
      A new Granqvist is here! While the Swedish captain is in Samara preparing for tomorrow’s quarter-final against England, his wife has today given birth to the couple’s second child. The proud father welcomed his daughter on Instagram using #daddyshairline and #worldcupbaby.

      How easily did they past through the groups and they won the cup or lost in final:
      Portugal at Euro (WON)
      France – 2006 (lost from Italy)
      .

      Sweden : Finalist?/?

  11. tigerman1 6 years ago

    One that caught my eye today in the Swedish Division 3…

    ESKILSMINNE vs. GREBBESTADS

    4th vs. 15th here, and the visitors are rightfully 15th: they just can’t keep their nets closed! In 17 games, they have not managed to keep a clean sheet, and average 3 goals per game in the league, with each of the last 6 on the road seeing at least 2 goals… Their only saving grace is that they can score… 5/6 last 6 games, 10/14 overall games, 4/6 last away games…
    Home team are prolific scorers; 9/9 home games and in all the last 11 fixtures. Their defence, though is a hit/miss affair

    No H2H to go on here, but looks like it could be a cracker.
    Recommendations:

    Eskilsminne win @1.64
    Eskilsminne win & over 1.5mgls @1.85
    Eskilsminne win & over 2.5mgls @2.25

    Bonkers:
    CS 2-0 @9
    CS 3-0 @13
    CS 3-1 @11

    ? ?? Le Tour de France 2018 ?? ?
    ===============================
    General Classifications – Contenders
    Chris Froome :
    ⚫ the 4 times winner of this tour (2013 , 2015 , 2016 , 2017) comes back here as the owner of the Giro and all three major tours in a row , his participation was in doubt for some weeks because of a possible ban , but he has been cleared to start, in the last years was hard for any rider to make the double (Il Giro + Le Tour) , as always Sky send a strong team to help Chris to win the Yellow Jersey – he can count in the mountains on such good climbers Kwiatkowski , Moscon , Poels and not at last Thomas , which will take his place if something will goes wrong.
    Odds @ 2.30
    ==============================================================================================
    Richie Porte :
    ⚫ this man is totally unlucky almost in all the tours something happened – crashed or lose time when descending , cobbles will be a big challenge for him but also have a big advantage on ITT and TTT (stage 3 will be BMC’s target) , BMC put a decent team to help him.
    Odds @ 5.50
    ==============================================================================================
    Nairo Quintana :
    ⚫ he was third behind Froome in 2016 and second in 2015. He has won the Vuelta and the Giro in the past and Movistar have a really strong squad of climbers absolutely strong team , i think they will challenge Team Sky and they can win Team Classifications , Valverde , Landa , Amador , Soler , Rojas – what a team – Movistar could well count on 3 rider to win the GC. After 1st Week will see on which Movistar will count.
    Odds @ 9.00
    ==============================================================================================
    Vincenzo Nibali :
    ⚫ The Shark has definitely a strategy this year to win Le Tour because he did not start in Il Giro and will surely want to double his victory from 2014, has a decent team to help him – Pozzovivo , Izagirre , Pellizotti will do the job in the mountains, his descending skill is wonderfull , weakness – ITT & TTT.
    Odds @ 12.00
    ==============================================================================================
    Romain Bardet :
    ⚫ he was third last year and runner up in 2016 and he is the most likely of the French hopes, he should be well suited to the mountain profiles with his climbing and descending skills has a good team to help him , weakness TT’s i hope this year to make show on his attacks on climbing.
    Odds @ 19.00
    ==============================================================================================
    Tom Dumoulin :
    ⚫ Sunweb as always count on Tom to do alone the business , they don’t have the same riders as others team has for mountains , he have an advantage in ITT – will be the man to beat , this year came in 2nd place after Froome in Giro, i don’t think he’ll challenge the other big names.
    Odds @ 15.00
    ==============================================================================================
    Adam Yates :
    ⚫ Mitchelton-Scott bring he a squad fully focused on the GC – Impey , Nieve are his men for high climbs , he won the last stagein Dauphine and could do a good performance in Le Tour , this victory give him high confidence maybe like his brother do in Giro
    Odds @ 26.00
    ==============================================================================================
    Rigoberto Uran Uran :
    ⚫ what a Tour he did last year finishing 2nd , his recent 2nd place in Slovenia was a good indication that he is in form , he is a good one day racer and in stage 9 could do something big in the fight for yellow , has the skills to battle for every stage on high and hard climbing. coul finish in first 10 places but the odds @ 1.55 is to low.
    Odds @ 36.00
    ==============================================================================================
    Definitely Chris Froome is the man to beat , all the things are made for him , escape from ban , one more week of rest because of WC Football , till now we should have watched a week of the Tour de France , his motivation to make history will be at high standards.
    ==============================================================================================
    Bets :
    Chris Froome to win Le Tour @ 2.30 ???
    ====================================
    ?

    • elvis parsley 6 years ago

      He may win but the finger of suspicion will always be pointing his way.
      He stretched the rules to their very limit and that to me leaves a sour taste.
      And why do all cyclist’s that get caught out suddenly become asthmatics ?.

      Much akin to athletics you don’t really know who is clean anymore, just that some can hide the drug in their body for longer.

      Like Wiggins for one, notice how he adopts a low profile nowadays or am I being over sceptical ?.

      Like when froome turned from wingman to Wiggins to a winner, maybe thomas can emerge from the shadows and take over, probably not as froome is too good at the moment, clean or not !!

    • old al 6 years ago

      Can’t argue with Froome but sticking with Bardet and Niboli e.w. as explained before.

    I know Uruguay’s stats look impressive but without Cavani in the line-up they become a difficult team to beat with just Suarez up top.
    An early France goal forces Uruguay to come out and then the gaps will appear.
    I’m on France to win and over 2.5 goals and another big game performance from Mbappe.
    Also expecting a heated game so also on 30+ booking points each team.

    Uruguay ?? v France ?? KO 3pm

    Massive blow for the South Americans that the spearhead of they’re attacking will be missing. No Cavani will delight the French and that certainly gives them the edge here.

    This will likely be won by one goal and there’s no denying Uruguay are a strong defensive unit captained by Diego Godin, will they be able to cope with a French attack in full flight. For me men, no.

    I’m taking France to edge this in 90 mins and Godin to get booked as he tries to contain Mbappe and Griezmann.

    What a great display by Belgium, Brazil however.. very poor finishing – 3 sitters all missed, the worst of which being Coutinho’s

    Also that HAD to be a penalty by Kompany on Neymar. Robbed me of two picks there

    Been a long b*stard of a week and not sure what they chill out with in Trinidad &Tobago but I’m cleaning the Northern soot from my lungs with 3 litres of mild and a pack of B&H Gold with the filters snapped off…

    CENTRAL VS. SAN JUAN JABLOTEH (2300 KO):

    The Night Owl sees me paying a visit to the T&T Cup games for what could be some value for goals.

    70% of the last 10 H2H’s between Central and SJJ have seen 3 or more match goals with 3 out of 4 on Central’s patch seeing the same amount.

    In fact, the latter has seen 3-5-5 match goals and with SJJ’s most recent 5 away games seeing 22 goals in total, the prices look fair game.

    OVER 2.5 MGS…4/5
    ???
    (Bet365)

    Best of luck ?
